RMweb Gold kipford Posted September 8, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 8, 2012 I am building my own signals for our Brighton East Layout (see link at the bottom of the page). So as a first step into the use of 3D printing for modelling, I thought a good trial would be the signal heads and the theatre indicator bodies. The first couple of pictures show the CAD models of the signals. As these items are very small (the indicators are only 8mm square) I chose to use FUD for best resolution. The results are as shown in the pictures (excuse my crap photography). They are untouched (no finishing) only having a quick coat of primer so they can be photographed. I think the photos are very cruel because when viewed normally without magnification they are very acceptable and I am quite happy with the result. The only thing I would do differently next time would be to sprue all the parts together to incur only one handling cost charge. Dave
simon br blue
Looks like a good start, if you give the flat faces a quick rub down with some wet n dry the finish will look much better.
Dazzler Fan
Very good. A steel backed razor blade is useful too as a scraper - generally 5 or 6 strokes, like striking a match, is enough.
