6959
When Airfix brand introduced the range of 00 railway models in the mid 'seventies there was a dramatic improvement over current Hornby products. It is written that these models were made by Sanda Kan so it may be useful if there was a list of Sanda Kan models for UK market produced under Airfix, GMR, Dapol and Hornby labels. Airfix models for starters: GWR 14xx GWR 61xx GWR Castle LMS rebuilt Scot BR class 31 diesel Dapol took over the Airfix moulds and produced a Hawksworth 4000 gallon tender behind a revised Castle but did not perpetuate the Collett 4000 gallon tender subsequently revived by Hornby. I assume that the Dapol County was made by Sanda Kan.

frobisher
The list isn't correct according to this... http://www.modelfair.com/article.asp?p=113 Quote "Not all the models were made by Sanda Kan. Another Hong Kong company, Cheong Tak, made the 4F, Royal Scot and the Stanier mainline and suburban coaches." The N2 was also tooled up by Sanda Kan, but never released by Airfix but went out as a Mainline item, similarly the Dean Goods was tooled by Heller and eventually released by Mainline. Butler Henderson
Believe the 56 and 2P 4-4-0 introduced by Mainline were also either made by Sanda Kan or Cheong Tak, certainly they do not exhibit any Kader manfacturing style.
andyman7
Another clue is what happened after the Mainline years - the Kader tools ended up being released by Bachmann, whereas the Sanda Kan/Cheong Tak tools passed to Dapol and thence to Hornby. 6959
The original idea of this topic was that, collectively, the members of this forum could compile a list of loco's made in Hong Kong by Sanda Kan that would be of general interest. Also it could dispel incorrect information about Airfix/ GMR/ Dapol/ Hornby loco's that were actually built by other manufacturers. I received a friendly PM saying that the topic as first written did not seem to have a clear purpose so I shelved it. Other members put in their two pennyworth so this is incorporated into a revised list in the hope that it will kick start this topic and get other replies. Airfix models for starters:BR class 31 diesel, Sanda KanGWR 14xx, Sanda KanGWR 61xx, Sanda KanGWR Castle, Sanda Kan LNER N2, tooled by Sanda Kan but not produced for Airfix, later in Palitoy Mainline range. LMS 4F , made by Cheong TakLMS rebuilt Royal Scot, made by Cheong Tak GWR Dean Goods - tooled by Heller, made in UK and sold as Palitoy Mainline-range, Sanda Kan motor. BR class 56 diesel, Sanda Kan or Cheong Tak?LMS 2P, Sanda Kan or Cheong Tak? Terms of Reference. To list the manufacturer of any UK outline locomotive sold under Airfix, GMR, Replica, Dapol or Hornby brands that was produced in the Far East other than by Kader Industries (Bachmann).
