Severn Valley Autumn gala

Mornin' all,

Here are a few scenes from a great day out at the SVR yesterday:

43106 passes Eardington with 'Sir Haydn' riding piggyback.

'Met 1' waits to leave Bridgenorth with the first of the Hampton Loade turnbacks...there was a little consternation at HL, with some squeezing up required in order to get the entire train behind the catch points of the siding there.

The interior of the first coach...well worth the £5 supplement payable to ride in it...we had 10 chaps in our compartment alone, so no shortage of takers.

5643 was watered at Highley whilst being shunted into the platform...unfortunately the linkage on the water column jammed and most of its contents overflowed/poured over the loco.

Cheltenham arrives at Arley.

46233 failed on its first trip, with Kinlet Hall 'stepped up' as a replacement. 43106 then worked the 'Hall's' train...seen here at Highley. 5101 replaced 43106 on the freight workings.

Kinlet Hall arrives at Arley.

The Duchess was resurrected for part of her diagram and is seen here entering Highley

Despite the hiccups the timetable was accurately resurrected for the afternoon and evening. Well done to all staff.

For those asking about the ghostly T9 at last years SVR Autumn gala...this is the link

These scenes from 2008/9 show how things change in just a few years on the preservation scene with many locos being sidelined/going out of ticket (includes several SVR clips)

I love looking at detail to see how many parts were swapped during a loco's life! Plenty of lineage on the GW loco's in particular.

Thanks to all volunteers and societies present who made it a Gala to remember.

Just to echo the comments already posted; a brilliant day on 'The Valley' yesterday. The efforts put in by the SVR people have to be seen to be believed and made my 280 mile round trip from Hampshire totally worthwhile! Huge thanks.

As an 'ex-pat Brummie' I don't often get the chance to visit the line and spending a fair part of the day at Bewdley reinforced my memories which make this location one of my favourites across the Heritage Railways.

I'm sure the large locos brought in the crowds although my favourite was the run from Arley to Bewdely with the 2 coach GWR 'local' behind 5164 - truly memorable. Thank you. Andy

Hello.

Well, what can I say really, what an absolute amazing weekend!

Steam at night is totally different, there is 100% more atmosphere than the usual daytime stuff and I will say go and see it if you havent before (its why Highclere has lights!). I went up Friday afternoon and stayed at the SVR until gone 11pm, stayed in a nearby hotel and did it all again Sunday, its probably the best time I have spent at a preserved railway to date.

Anyway, they say photos speak a 1000 words so here are a few from me...

Some fantastic photos and videos on this thread.

That last photo of Julia's reminds me of the 'Summer comes soonest in the South' poster;

I really enjoyed the weekend - the atmosphere at Bewdley late on the Saturday night was almost magical. Thank you Julia for a great couple of days - definitely one to do again next year if possible!

Me again..

I have finally figured out how to upload videos to youtube so below is a short video of 34053 Sir Keith Park leaving Bewdley around 10pm Friday Night. Its not the best quality but it was taken with my phone but hopefully it gives a feel for what it was like there....
