RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted October 28, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 28, 2013 87023Velocity - Smon - is constructing an N gauge model of the Warrington Dallam area, at that time I was working in Warrington and often went out photographing so I'm going to post some prototype shots for his inspiration. A word about the scans - they were done by Max Spielmann, at the time scanning at developing time was fairly new (within this context - volume) and hence the quality is not as good as even a modest scanner would be today, coupled with an annoyance that one of the staff in the shop was a young girl who was not exactly keen on her job so countless mistakes were made, she even lost one of my films much to my annoyance. On the plus side, they are scans and hence are available a lot quicker than if I was scanning them from scratch today. The original photos are generally (but not always) of a far higher quality than the scans. And so to the photos .... New Years day found me photographing Wirral line units - here's a couple of shots. (And to contradict the above, these (and some others below) were scanned by me a few years ago whilst testing a scanner) 507012 departs on 2W30, 13:50 Chester - West Kirby 507008 approaches Eastham Rake on 2N33, 14:10 Ellesmere Port - New Brighton On 21 December 2000 Littons Mill in Warrington suffered a devastating blaze and because of it's proximity to the "Low Level" line (Ditton Junction - Arpley) the railway was shut for 3 months whilst the mill was demolished, until March 2001 all coal for Fiddlers Ferry was sent via Edge Hill, meaning none passed Dallam, although coal for other power stations did of course. These diversions resulted in interesting operation at Fiddlers (if anyone wants me to post a topic on this I can but I'll not dilute this thread with trains that didn't pass Dallam!) 7 January 2001 Warrington 60081 parked in the yard 37216 parked outside the depot 08915, 37057 and 37216 parked outside the depot 08915 parked outside the depot 60053 parked in the yard 175007 departs on the 11:12, Manchester Piccadilly - Chester 142007 arrives on the 11:30 Liverpool Lime Street - Warrington Bank Quay arrival 16 January 2001 Edge Hill MFAs were very new at the time, this was the first I'd seen MHA 394061 (EWS Red) and MFA 391258 (EWS Red) parked in Waterloo sidings MFA 391258 (EWS Red) parked in Waterloo sidings MTA 395164 (EWS Red) parked in Waterloo sidings MFA 391050 (ex Loadhaul) parked in Waterloo sidings MFA 391073 (ex Loadhaul) parked in Waterloo sidings To show the RES 86/4s in use on passenger 86424 powers 1A33, 09:45 Liverpool Lime Street - London Euston 47822 runs light engine North through Warrington Bank Quay 37668 heads a loaded ballast (for Crewe ?) onto the Up Goods Loop 47747 and 47750 head 1038, 09:10 Edinburgh - Bournemouth 06 February 2001 Warrington 37521, 37717 and 60083 run light from the North for Warrington Arpley depot, 56067 behind 56067 on the Up Goods Loop on 6E82, 12:42 Gladstone Steel Terminal - Arpley - Lackenby More to come

87023Velocity
Hi Dave, More great pictures, from seeing all your pictures I may need a bigger fiddle yard for Dallam! I like the picture of 87034 with 016 DIT, although in this case it maybe loco failure, I do remember push pull sets going off Longsight in the morning with an extra loco tucked inside for positioning move purposes, so think I may need to have a dummy 87 or 90 to be added into a set for added interest.
