RMweb Premium - No Google Ads

Message added by AY Mod,

If you are still seeing Google ads or pop-up videos after registering for Premium please do make sure you have followed Steps 1-4 in the first post - https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/171928-rmweb-premium-no-google-ads/

At last we can offer users the low-cost solution to removing Google Ads and support the facilities whilst giving added value.

RMweb costs a lot to run, if you find the site of value to you and wish to improve your engagement experience going Premium is a great way to support the site. If you don't wish to do so the Google Ads are, in effect, partly paying for your use of the site and are necessary to meet costs. Now 'Premium' is available we will be further reviewing and probably increasing the placement of adverts.

What will you get with RMweb Premium?

The same RMweb privileges as a 'Gold/World of Railways Plus' members except the access to the online versions of BRM/Garden Rail/Traction/Narrow Gauge World/Engineering in Miniature, free show ticket and the trackplan/article archive on World of Railways.

  • No Google, pop-up or Video Ads*
  • Access to the RMweb Classifieds facility
  • Personal Galleries for images
  • Increased image and PM storage
  • Access to 'Gold Lounge' for further support

*Some ads may still be seen on sponsored subforums such as Revolution/Accurascale/Strathwood/BRM etc pending a fix and trade ads may not be seen in some areas until we get that fixed. Premium users will see trade ads (but not Google Ads).

How much does this cost?

image.png

£12 per annum payable by recurring annual Credit card or Paypal payment - equivalent to £1 per month or just over 3p per day.

How do I get RMweb Premium?

You will of course need an RMweb login for this to work!

  1. Go to the payment gateway - https://www.world-of-railways.co.uk/store/membership-subscriptions#rmwebPremiumTabPane - you will need to create a World of Railways account if you don't already have one.
  2. Go to the Integration page - http://www.rmweb.uk/rmweb-integration.php and login with your World of Railways account and RMweb account and this should automatically reconcile the permissions so you get your extras as soon as you've signed in.
  3. Return to RMweb and refresh if necessary**.
  4. If you still see any Google Ads you may have the Default theme; go to the bottom of any page and click on 'Themes' and select RMweb Premium from the dropdown. The header logo should now show RMweb Premium.

** - if any problems are encountered please clear any RMweb cookies and browsing history and login again. If the problem persists please advise what device and browser you are using.

What if I have any problems?

Post your query in this topic and we will endeavour to assist (dependent on me being around). Fingers crossed that the sign-up and integration now works but if there are any global problems noted I will post in this topic to advise.

What do I get with World of Railways Plus above and beyond RMweb Premium?

I have just paid for the new membership of £12 per year and my credit card account confirms payment has been taken. I then went to step two to reconcile my WOR and RMweb accounts which appeared successful.

I then logged out of RMweb and upon logging back in I still seem to be getting adverts and the top of the page shows "and version" which means I must have done something wrong! I am using an Oppo Android phone.

Help!

Not necessarily, dependent on when you originally signed up to RMweb you may belong to more than one user group, a primary and a secondary one. I noticed when you signed up for Premium that you had a secondary user group 'Member'. Selecting the Premium theme as in the instructions in the OP should resolve that but, on seeing you'd completed the process, I removed the secondary group so you should only exist in the Premium user group now.

Are you still seeing the Google Ads now?

Thanks for this Andy

You're welcome Simon and thank you! @SteveCole and I have gone through a lot of frustration and aggravation to finally get this, some 10 months later than we would have liked to have it available.

Thanks Andy - another satisfied signed up customer here!

Well worth the quiet, patient wait - I won't deny it was occasionally amusing watching the antics of the less quiet & patient, but I'm sure it wasn't from your perspective!

I think we should call you Jack Russel from now on!

No ads so far and the screen appears less cluttered on my phone which is another bonus so very pleased with my decision to pay the subscription. Many thanks for all you do for us.

Does this accomplishment mean that @AY Mod might finally get the stress-free holiday he so richly deserves; now that he doesn't have to hear as many people whinging about things that are mostly out of his control? Well, in terms of ads anyway. Anyway, I hope this is a successful membership option - it should certainly please those that wish to support the site and experience QoL improvements as a bonus.

Hopefully it means I'll get chance to further what we've been chatting about. ;)

Hmmm, it doesn't like me, I can't register for it. I also had a problem with the address details on the registration page as it insists upon a street name, something that my home does not have.

It may be worth calling the subs department on 01778 392002 to see if they can override it. They may not be familiar with the product yet though as it's designed for online sign-up. Maybe @SteveColeor @nicolal123 can advise further.

Money put where mouth was.  Thanks for organising this Andy - well done.

Thanks Neil, I'm keeping an eye on the systems to check everything is processing as it should and I can see the sign-up but it's not converted your usergroup to Premium; was there any problem at the integration stage?

Not that I was aware of, what theme am I supposed to switch to - I was just looking for that when your reply popped up.

I'm just concerned you may not have been able to do that and remove the ads but I can see it's switched you over correctly now.
