Agreed Andrew, I was a very early CAMRA member (I was recruited by Michel Hardman personally, and ISTR that my membership number was about 550 or thereabouts. There were some who would have sucked "real ale" through a smelly sock and not be able to taste the difference - cloudy, big lumps of sediment were regarded as normal - and one keen member was drinking Ruddles County in Becky's Dive Bar in London, where they used to keep the casks on the floor, and you could sit on them too - when a new cask was needed (it was dispensed by gravity) all the barman did was to get a cask, tap it, spile it, and serve it straight away. When we visited Rutland, and Tony Ruddle hosted us to a pub lunch and a brewery and taproom visit (all we paid was the coach), he served immaculate hand pulled County, and the same member protested that this wasn't "proper" county, as it had no bits in, and you could see through it. Another time, I was in a pub where the branch chairman was drinking some VERY suspect Courage DIrectors - again cloudy and lumpy - the Best was off, so I ordered a bottle of Lowenbrau (at that time German brewed), and the chairman came over to me and muttered "f**cking traitor". I resigned my membership the next morning. I wasted £11.98 plus 70p each boooking fee to go with 30747 to the local Vue to see it - 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back - railway scenes were laughable - keeping a derailed loco in steam and it staying in steam for quite a long time was just a bit ridiculous - indeed almost as stupid as Mr Branagh's moustache - but he was basing on Agatha Christie's original description of Poirot, where she did use the words "with the most magnificent moustachio" in one of her early books (not that I've read it myself, but Branagh did, apparently)

Afternoon All Well a couple of days absent, as there have been too many other events which have needed our attention. Sorry, but yet again a lot of skipping has had to be done. The Almighty knows when I might get round to the railway related topics that I follow. Other than the move, there is not a lot else to report, but I have compiled a list of the errors which the major building society (and still is) which has branches all over the country has made since November, and once we have completion on the move, we will really let loose on them - it runs to 3 pages (admittedly handwritten and with gaps) of A4. Back again - site still appears to be working a lot better than it was - one thing that I have found is that going back to "content I follow" takes a lot longer than any other page - when I check the little log at the bottom left, it appears to be scrolling through the ads before taking me to my chosen page - I do use uBlock origin in Firefox, and it is very effective but it can't stop the site from searching them. Oh and my printer's fixed - there were several problems which I could never have detected without help - one was that yet again, a MS WIndows 10 update reset all the paper sizes to US letter size, which is a couple of mils out from A4 in length. Then the MS update managed as well to corrupt the print driver, and unloading and reloading just got the same corrupted driver back - a complete reload from the HP website was needed in order to get a newer and non corrupt version - and at last, my scanner is also working - and that for the first time with this printer. I will miss the lad when we move - he charges me a tenner to come up and sort the problems - a lot less than an IT professional - and he was very near to getting a degree in the subject when he decided not to continue with his uni course

Afternoon All, Caloo Calay - at long last, my mortgage offer has been corrected and issued for the fourth time - the one we got last evening still had a major error how the hell can a major lender get the address of the property that they are taking as security wrong? Now to print it - or not as my printer is playing up again - seems to happen every time I get a major windows update - luckily my tame guru will attend later this after. Now then, what's all this - site SEEMS to be working better - I got a 522 error this morning, and when I logged back in a bit later, it seemed to be quite a bit better than it has been of late. Due to the problems and the use of the laptop for the serious business of trying to get the move back on track, much skipping has happened, so all I can offer is generic greetings. Rick, I always thought that the Blue Anchor used to produce to three OGs - 1070, 1060, and 1050 - equating to 7%,6% and 5% - but that was MANY years ago while I was a single lad (ie more than 43 years ago). Afternoon All Well, at last we seem to be getting somewhere with the move - after 14 weeks, our equity release application has been approved, and the formal offer issued - COVID - PAH. I am a bit surprised that nobody has started a thread marking Barry Cryer's passing. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34041501 He was a brilliant comedy writer, and also a half way decent stand up (or actually sit down in his last tour) in his own right - his timing was utterly immaculate. I saw him three times, during his tours, and actually met him on two occasions - the first time, I missed him, but the next time at the interval, I went round the side of the theatre and he was standing just outside the stqge door having a cigarette, and we passed the time of day for a few minutes - he was a lovely bloke, and not at all stand offish - in the first occasion, I thanked him for his show, and his response was "no thank YOU for coming to see me" Much of the material was old, but old in a very fresh way - his joke that he wrote for Kenny Everett about the snail sitting on the lawn in the sunshine songing "chanson d'amour" and the lawn mower coming towards him going "rat a tat a tat" was about 20 years old, but still fresh in his hands. A great comic talent has gone to meet a lot of those he wrote for - RIP Barry - you single handedly gave a lot of people over a couple of generations a whole lot of laughter.

Morning All Warren -whilst skipping due to site outages and long waits, I did pick up that your mum didn't make it, and sincere condolences are onoffer from this quarter. Other than that. generic greetings are all I can offer - plus a hope that Andy and his techies manage to get the site stable - members can only put up with so much, and this is the best railway modelling, and also social site on the web, and I for one will try to stay with it. Fodder run done this morning, and dinner now on (cold chicken once cooked), and Lily walked by 07.00 this morning to allow for the weekly visit to Aldi or Lidl (Aldi this week - they seem to be having a lot less stock issues - I was told by one of the shift managers that as they are still having delivery issues, they are using their own lorries to get the supplies from their manufacturers - seems a good idea to me. Afternoon All I have been absent due to various issues, and also due to the now much debated outages on here, which have been going on intermittently now for up to a week - I won't give up on it, as I do like the banter and off railways chat on here, and anyway, I was one of the very first members of both RMWeb, and also ERs - I date back to the days of LisaP4 and the original Fat Controller, as well as many old ERs who are no longer with us. Some just disappeared and we can only presume that they too are no longer with us. In those days, ERs progressed by about four or five posts a day! Anyway, for the first time since last Sunday, generic greetings are, as ever, on offer. Had a few problems with the packing and boxing up - never seen so many banana boxes in one house - probably more in the back of Morrisons or in a banana warehouse, but hey, that's the way of the moving (sometime soon never). And the stress is getting to both of us. Also there's been a few problems domestic, largely the washing machine, which seems to be taking longer and longer to complete its cycle, and seems to be having problems with balancing the load before each spin. Today's final spin took over 40 minutes before it kicked into the spin part of the cycle - should be 15 to 20 according to the user guide - and a phone call to Indesit elicited an estimated wait queue of 35 minutes. I suspect that the machine has moved - would this be a possible cause, answers on a postcard (will be quicker than answers via this site at present). The other is the microwave, which has gone dangerously rusty after about 2 years (out of guarantee, of course and I'm sure that rust would not be covered and would be put down to inadequate wiping). We wanted the same make and model, as it's cheap and we know how to work it, so don't need to sit there for hours with the control panel and user guide in the other hand. Well, this was a problem as Argos didn't have any in any colour and as it's an Argos brand, it wasn't avaible elsewhere. Well they finally came in - increased in price from £49.99 when we bought the last one to £54.99 when we were searching for it the other week - now back in stock at £63. Had to buy one as the old one is now getting dangerous. And also the Argos website does not allow to to check and reserve now - only buy on a click, pay and collect basis.
