  1. The squeezy oilers do split if you squeeze too hard, you need to gently squeeze them lightly and the oil will come out slowly then release the squeeze and move to the next bearing... simples! Dave F.
  2. Signal box in position on the layout though the groundwork is still to be done before final fixing. Really must touch in the white where the blue has gone over. I'm planning on a couple of painters with ladders just to get the message across that the NE region was repainting everything in their house style at this time. Dave.
  3. My beloved didn't bat an eyelid when she found out about the trains as she loved to play with her wee brothers H/D trainset when she was wee plus she was proud of her granddad who worked his way up to a driver starting with the North British Railway in 1918 and finished driving the Glasgow Blue trains. And, just yesterday we were at the club working on my layout, me cutting polystyrene for scenery and her planting a dry stane wall, piece by piece I might add. I'm so lucky... Dave.
  4. As someone who grew up on the other side of the road from the Eddlewood estate it diffenately never had an 'S' in it. Dave.
  5. Hi Jamieb, looks like you mixed the same colour as me and yes I think the blue is a bit high, looking at various photos the blue comes upto and including the plank adjacent to the window sills and the middle of the door but I suppose the painters could interpret the spec as they go. Cheers, Dave F.
  6. At the risk of saying 'me to', here is my newly done Midland signal box in the NE regional colours as done when the NE region took over the Wharfedale line in the fifties and repainted everything. Churchward etched brass kit modified and detailed, painting style copied from photos of boxes on the line. Dave.
  7. Been a while since I was on here so I thought I better plant a few pictures showing progress on Wharfeside. Signal box now finished, a Churchward etched brass kit modified in height and details and painted in NE Region colours as the line was taken over by the NE and almost immediately they started to repaint everthing. Painted as per other boxes on the Wharfedale line. As of last night the glazing was done and the baseboard fixings attached, needs a nameboard now. Based on a DJH kit the much modified 8F has been on the bench for a long time, now painted and the scratchbuilt CSB sprung chassis is complete, just needs the valvegear and hanger painted, maybe just a little bit of weathering to the ex-works loco. The grass is on most of the layout now, teddybear fur trimmed down and coloured by Fiona, when a few small trees, bushes and some scatter are added it will look great as per Retford.
  8. And with all the talk about a RTR WD 2-10-0 over the last weeks had me digging out the DJH one I had started for myself some time ago, the chassis frames were scratchbuilt to suit compensation using a template I had made for previous builds, (long before CSB suspension was considered, at least by me). I thought I might try to fit CSBs to these frames so Chris at HighLevel supplied the hornblocks and just before Christmas the 2-10-0 was up on it's wheels all be it as a 0-10-0 at first, turning over nicely on the rolling road. I'd built a few WD 2-10-0s for customers over the years with the same scratchbuilt compensated chassis in all 4mm gauges, P4, EM and OO (just the frame width varied!). I've very few decent photos unfortunately but here is 90766 in P4 with Sharman wheels. Note the sliding cab windows fitted by BR As of today the 'Big Yin' has it's cylinders on and the Dave Bradwell drain cocks added, the smokebox saddle was modified to raise the boiler to the correct height at the front, DJH got it wrong by 1mm.... Slidebar bracket made to support the very flimsy slidebars, not enough room to fit a full thickness three part slidebar though but it is a 'layout loco' so it shouldn't be noticed, cough.... With a good sized Mashima motor and a HighLevel gearbox it performs very well down to a slow crawl. To be numbered 90763 as the only big WD shedded in England all it's days, Carlisle Kingmoor and was occasionally seen in Leeds and on the S&C so good for my railway. Cheers and Happy New Year to all. Dave F.
  9. Hi Paul, happy new year to you and yours. Just been catching up with the project and I have to say - it's just gorgeous, can't wait to see it in the flesh. Cheers, Dave F.
  10. Hi Andy, problem is, that is not Burley in Wharfedale, I downloaded that a few years ago and realised it wasn't what they said it was. I did email them to point this out but never got a reply. Dave F.
  11. Just a bit of a damp squib if you ask me... Seen similar at some exhibitions. Dave.
  12. All the talk about a RTR WD 2-10-0 over the last weeks had me digging out the DJH one I had started for myself some time ago, the chassis frames were scratchbuilt to suit compensation using a template I had made for previous builds, (long before CSB suspension was considered, at least by me). I thought I might try to fit CSBs to these frames so Chris at HighLevel supplied the hornblocks and earlier this week the 2-10-0 was up on it's wheels all be it as a 0-10-0 at first, turning over nicely on the rolling road. I'll put a clip up on YouTube showing it hauling it's first train last Thursday night. What a beast of a loco and all 150 were built in Glasgow not 15 miles away from here. I'd built a few WD 2-10-0s for customers over the years with the same scratchbuilt compensated chassis in all 4mm gauges, P4, EM and OO (just the frame width varied!). I've very few decent photos unfortunately but here are a few. 90766 in P4 with Sharman wheels. Note the sliding cab windows fitted by BR And in OO with the then new Markits WD wheels and incorrect dome... (doh!) An EM one in primer. These are big locos compared to the 2-8-0 and I'm informed by at least one owner who shows his Scottish layout up and down the country that quite a few people think it's a 2-8-0 or even a Bachman WD.... He's quoted as saying - all that expense and people think it's a Bachmann. Dave.
  13. Well thankyou for the glowing report, we try to do a quick service though these days we only post on Mondays and Thursdays due to not going to the village post office but to another one a few miles away this was because of the rude and ignorant shop owner not taking any notice of the Covid lockdown regs and allowing dozens of punters in the shop at once and theatening the staff if they try to stop too many customers. Many locals now boycott the establishment. Dave F.
  14. WD 2-8-0 & 2-10-0s in BR service were fitted with sliding glass windows to the cab and can be evidenced by the line of five bolts just under the cab window, most of the 2-8-0s had them in BR days from the early fifties judging by the photos of the period. The position of the line of bolts for the runners varied depending on which works fitted the sliding windows. The glazing is yet to be fitted on the model. Cheers, Dave F.
  15. TC01 Track cleaning kits. These were out of stock for a while but the etches did finally arrive just when the computer had a core meltdown.... We lost some stuff but most stuff was saved elsewhere, we lost the current saved website and access to it for updates though the website does function on it's own. We now have access but need to rebuild the website on the computer complete with all the photos stored on the hard drive so that we can update the website, it is taking some time. So a few items that are shown out of stock are actually back in stock, TC01 Track cleaner kit can be bought by ordering TC02 and emailing that you want TC01, a few have been sold this month that way after an enquiry. Also the CR21 universal coupling rods for inside cylinder 0-6-0 locos can be purchased in this manner, just remember to email with your enquiry. Hope that all helps, Dave Franks.
  16. Just been told about these posts, could be that Daddyman was originally using an out of date link which effectively didn't go anywhere, we have had one or two people who have had similar problems and asked them to use the website address instead of their stored link just in case the link is old or corrupted. Use the http://lanarkshiremodels.com/ address and save it but renew it occasionally and that should do the trick. Dave F.
  17. Once again I may be talking rubbish, just dug out a methanol tanker and the filler is offset by 1.3mm and so the walkway maybe too or it might be offset so the handwheel for the bottom outlet is more get-at-able. We need more photos to prove all were like that or some or none just the Hornby model. Dave.
  18. To me the filler is central but the walkways are offset. I'm doing a couple of these methanol tanks myself to go with my Liquified Ammonia tanks and have stared at a number of photos. I'll be casting the walkways and have already etched ladders suitable for both types of tank. Ammonia tank with ladders, held on with bluetac..... Dave.
  19. 601 Kitchener was an oddball though, two westy pumps fitted around this time and the tender had BR Standard style tender springs without the compensating levers as can just be discerned, other photos taken in 1958 whilst at NBL loco works for overhaul and modification show the modified tender springs clearly. I'm told the loco then ran trials on BR Scottish region for a few months and an old friend claimed he saw the 'big blue engine' running through Motherwell (?) with an iron ore train.
  20. Ooooh you are cruel.... I'm stuck here with the builders in on an over running job but at least it's no raining. All the best guys, hope it all goes well. Dave F.
  21. I seem to remember that the LNER built some LMS 8Fs and they had disc wheels on the tenders so there are bound to be one or two sets about as spares when needed so I wouldn't worry about it.
  22. Ah but, his 'friends' payed the airfare just to be rid of his awful jokes.... Dave.
  23. Oh yes, we have the optional heater, even some cars of that period it was an option. Dave.
  24. Yes there is that option but that would take the 1966 originality away from the motor. Dave.
  25. Ah yes, the Landy had crossply tyres on when I got it over thirty years ago, they were okay but old and hard so after it was restored and a long trip 300 miles down to Billing, Northhants for the big landrover show I put radials on but they gripped like stink making the steering very heavy so this time with the radials being nearly twenty years old and cracking between the tread blocks I decided to go for a modern crossply with modern rubber, other owners find them okay but not as grippy as radials if that's what you're used to.. I don't drive it fast and to be honest it doesn't go fast. Dave.
