I think 484’s or similar would be more likely if there were other allocation options for the 195’s. While there’s units to shuffle around the cheapest hire will be used or spare traction from fleet hires. That’s why we saw a mix of diesel and electric traction on the Lymington branch for a while because they shuffled it around maintenance and availability to fill the week and weekend diagrams until other changes freed up electric units all week.

I'd expect the converted tube carriages to put in an appearance (don't know their TOPS class)

One thing I didn’t think of when I bought mine - can I run it on a DC layout? Do I need to do anything to disable the DCC stuff ?

Yes you can. If the chips been set up properly by Bachmann you shouldn't have to do anything.

Haha!! You lost me at Decoder pro!! I did warn you I am a DCC numpty!!!

its a tool put together by modellers to  display at varying levels of detail (numpty, not a complete numpty and pretty knowledgeable) the CVs of a decoder with the related switches.. so if you know you need to set CV29 to a particular value it will display what it is currently, allow you to edit it, write the new value to your decoder and save the value on your computer. it will also allow you to create a throttle on your display with buttons for each function. The community of users create new decoder and controller definitions as required as well as providing support to the less experienced. They don't share sound files, butwill advise as to your settings if approached politely.

Thankyou @McC Me and settings don’t get on too well. Might have to hold off to see if anything happens with Accurasound as mentioned in the Deltic thread!

Decoder Pro is your friend - copy the lighting settings you want, then write them onto the decoder - as long as the settings and lights are not linked, you should be fine. (Unless Biff says different!!)

  5. several years ago one of the Modelling magazines (Model Rail I think) printed a clearances diagram which showed the clearance in MM from the rail to surrounding objects (Platform edges, bridge abutments, signal masts and heads, catenary etc etc. Does anyone, by any chance have a copy?

I have to admit I’ve become a bit obsessed with Bachmann's class 90. I think it’s a superb model and the new versions with sound fitted are well worth the money. These two are something a bit different which I managed to persuade Colin to do as production batches so I could add to my own collection at the same time.

90034 in its DB branding on the base DRS blue. 90035 was chosen as it was still wearing its very tatty EWS colours with virtually white numbers and letters prior to getting a fresh coat of DB red. Both models are weathered. I was very lucky to pick up the original base model for the EWS one for just £50 with decoder fitted via eBay. It needed work to fix the bogies and pick up wires but easy enough jobs to do.

I’m not sure how they made it to Morecambe off the wires lol!

    All the best

    These must be due now?

I never understand people wanting plastic pretend coal loads when they can easily make loads themselves and use the real thing. But I forget that not everyone can still just pick the stuff up anywhere. You can walk your dog just about anywhere round here, on old pit sites and colliery railway lines, and find enough coal lying around to make wagon loads. Not that I need to because I've got an ice cream tub full of Beeston seam coal, from the last deep mine in Yorkshire.

I am thinking that my new micro layout will use my order of chaldrons but for fireclay and not coal.

The Leeds Fireclay Co, in the 1950s, with wagons that look like they could be from the 1850s.

were the twin height buffers a common Mod? the RH buffers appears to be a different shape to the others.

the coaches are fitted with stayalives and pickups and magnetic relay switching to activate the lighting. We felt DCC function would have risen the price point unnecessarily but you can very easyilu install a simple function only decoder into the coach should you absolutely prefer the ability to toggle lighting using your controller instead of a wave of the wand.
The Mark 5 TPE driving trailer actually has a 21 pin decoder socket and stay alive as well as an iPhone cube style speaker should you want total control over the DT lighting and indeed sound.

What sounds  would the DT be supplied with (and who is doing the chip)?

I've heard it called aircraft grey. Primer may be too dark and Rail grey too yellow, but once weathered you wouldn't know.

There are translucent panels over the corridor sections between the blower stacks but these also got painted over in roof colour.

it might have started as aircraft grey, but from looing down on it from numerous bridges it turns to 'weathered grime' fairly quickly!
