  1. I have yet to see a Model railway related advert, they all appear to be about cruises to Alaska, Catapillars and attempts to get me to complete charity 'surveys'. Thank heavens I can mute them!
  2. The early Overhead AC model locos (such as the 1960 Hornby models) were designed so that they could collect power from an overhead wire. In order to maintain contact they had to exert a noticeable pressure of the collector on the model Pan against the OHLE and this is where you get the out of scale spring strength from. I'm not sure, but I suspect that any of the more recent offerings that collect from the overhead will also be on the 'strong' side. It's the only way they can consistantly collect current. Ian_B
  3. When you have so many adverts that they obscure each other, that's too many. Ian_B
  4. and the blue (pressure) vessels behind the grating between the bogies on the underframe
  5. Andy (admins) is there any way to turn off the Google Ads which clutter my screen trying to sell me stuff that I am Highly unlikely to buy? ISO containers? Dairy farm equipment? Really? is this a ploy to sell me Ad Blocker? Ian_B
  6. yes you are correct.https://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/documents/RAIB_Clitheroe2020.pdf has pictures in it showing it as a single wagon. I was misled by the wording into believing a whole set had 'escaped'. Ian_B
  7. they had a rake of 6 run away from the loading facility at Clitheroe so that may well be correct. I don't know. Ian_B
  8. Chris, there's a short rake that works from Clitheroe to Bristol docks and back. Ian_B
  9. Rupert, As ever, Rule 1 applies. It's your railway make it look the way you want! Other opinions do not count. Ian_B
  10. Rupert, is the start point the top or the bottom level? I was using set track rather than flexi as that was the track I intended to lay (I'm sure you realise what a pain flexi is to create multiple turns of curved flexi without creating knuckle at the joints) but does this make any difference to creating the trackplan? Ian
  11. Do the top and bottom of the helix have to be 180 degrees apart? Missed that in the instructions (shrugs). I'm attaching the top of the Helix to a piece of set-track and using set-track to form the helix itself, but without luck. Ian_B
  12. Have we anyone in the group using Anyrail 6..38 who can explain how to build a Helix into the plan? I have been trying for some time to put a helix into my plan to drop from an upper board to a fiddle yard. the instructions I can find are unclear and I've never managed to pull it off. am I failing to set some prerequise value? 13. The station at Preston was a little strange then, with a separate set of platforms for parcel traffic but mail sacks being off-loaded on Platforms 3 and 4 and attached to a sack conveyor that carried them across the tracks to the main sorting office where the mail was unbagged and sorted then rebagged for putting out by roads or carried back to the conveyor to head to platforms 3/4. Mail was also loaded onto Brutes and driven down the curved ramp on platform 3/4, through the subway from 3/4 to lifts on the other platforms to go by train to East Lancs (used to be platforms 5/6) or West Lancs (used to be platforms 1/2). 14. 6a why have they done this model? I just finished my scratch build! They should have done the XYX**! I haven't got the drawings for that.
  15. I recall that someone does a dot matrix sign for platform announcements, so I guess it would not be beyond the realms of possibility to do something for the coaches. It wouldn't be simple, but it should be possible. Ian_B
  16. Wouldn't have to be a wagon, a container would do. The point is that they've positioned the collectors club wagon in an undesirable period for me. Every release since it was produced. Lots of pretty and useless (to me) PO wagons. It would be nice if they produced one in the current era one year Maybe one from the 1800's the year after, rather than restricting themselves to the early 20th century (or so it seems). Ian_B
  17. yes, but I think He's had his neck stretched!!
  18. Programmable destination panels? (I'll get my coat) Ian_B
  19. Nice if you like antique trains, but goods wagons that don't have a TOPS code are of little interest to me. I do wish the Bachman Collectors club would give me something to justify the membership fee. Ian_B

    Class 142

I hope they wash their hands before anything changes hands!! Thanks for that Charlie. I was fretting in case you'd put something out on your website and I'd missed it. Ian_B

    Class 142

Hi Charlie, Any news on the 142's? Ian_B
  22. I have used narrow strips of Tamyia making tape in the past, doing without the ratchet mechanisms. But without the loops representing the lashing points they're difficult to install (especially when my fingers seem as dextrous as uncooked sausages). I want to lash the loads on my warflats, but with nether lashing points on the vehicles and cosmetic lashing eyes on the warflat, it's not going to be easy. One end can be secured around the axles of light vehicles such as Land rovers, but Tracked vehicles have dedicated eyes front and rear. Ian_B
  23. Warriors are Out of Gauge for the Warflat, and need a special Transport cradle to clear the platform edges for the Warwell. These are available from Pete Harvey of PHDesigns. 4mm KWA Warrior AFV Transport Cradle (phd-design-etchings.co.uk). No idea on the Vampire. The landrovers will go on Warflats. You might have issues with the Ratchet strops to secure them scenically. Ian_B
