The outer curve in the picture is over 4ft radius and the inner one on the flat plywood is about 2ft 6in-3ft if I recall correctly. The problem curve hadn't been installed when the picture was taken. It runs underneath the outer curve but cuts through to the inner curve and climbs at the same time

Yes, the curves are the big problem. I have some Walthers Empire Builder stock which is recommended for no less than 2ft radius, which is what I've tried to use as an absolute minimum. However it is tight to 2ft on the far end and there's no way that stock or any 12-wheel diesel will go round it. At the moment I'm trying to decide whether I go for only using eight-wheel diesels and the 'more flexible' rolling stock on that ramp. There isn't room to re-lay it with a wider curve. I've tried some super-elevation without success and I may do some subtle adjustment of the slopeas it seems to be the vertical displacement of the outside rail that causes the problem. At the nearer end I've ensured that the curves are closer to 3ft radius. All too complicated! If I hadn't tried to re-use bits of the old layout I would have had the freedom to lay it out as it needs to be. Can't discard the big trestle bridge, though, its one of my best efforts.

Tools that are 50 years old - and a kit that Airfix always supplied in a box for better protection, no doubt.

I had my 1964 Sunbeam Rapier on my Black Dog Halt layout. It was actually painted with the Rootes 'Moonstone' touch-up paint which was all that I had left of the original car. Can't remember if I took the car off the layout before I passed it to Bentley MRG, or not.

It was a privilege to be trusted with the layout and I just hope no one saw my behind-the-scenes efforts with the three link couplings! The last time I touched three-links in public must have been about 15 years ago - and then I vowed to give them up for good!
It was great to be able to 'play' with our little Sentinel, too, on something other than a test track. I, too, was told that I look much younger than I am, so it must be something with the lighting in the DPS shed!
