  1. I love the fact I login to have a look at a few bits, to see any new models and the initial reaction. Then Log back on about 50 hours later to see people moaning, Andy Y stepping in and people doing handbags at dawn.

    Crazy.

I like the Western BTW - Well done!

  2. I wonder who that was then :P

As for wheels, try 2-007, they are 3 hole wheels on a 14.8mm axle (to suit PECO wagons). You have done a great weathering job on the wagon too, it does look nice.

    Missy :)

Julia being Missy, all makes sense. I'm pretty stupid at connecting 2+2! Thank you for your help, didn't want to order the wrong axles.

    Thanks again,

    Oly

  3. This is probably pretty basic for a 2mm question, but I guy has got to start somewhere, I brought my first ever N gauge wagon after chatting to the lovely lady on the 2mm demo stand upstairs at St Albans this weekend. I was wondering what axle size I need to order from the 2mm society to replace the wheels is it 14.80? It's a peco WR vent van, here is a pic after I had a little go at weathering tiny tiny style, it needs some 3 holed discs too (I think).

  4. Mine knew about it before we'd even really hooked up, she likes it as she knows I'm not out doing something 'else'.

I also find modelling calms me down, I can be very rock and roll at times, and in the past it's always been the one thing that I can stop and chill out. She appreciates it for that too.

However my GF before that was a different kettle of fish, I've always looked older than I was, and at 17 I left school to work in London, and I looked in a suit about 22/23. I met her on the train commuting and she had just finished Uni. I never lied about my age, I just did not tell her. After getting WELL into a relationship  her constant bugging to go meet my parents not only lead to a confession of having a layout in my bedroom with my single bed and train pictures on the wall, but being just turned 18. To cut a long story short, she was pretty miffed about the age thing, but her father modelled trains. And after getting over my age, we did some very interesting things on the layout and I was with her 3 something years. When we moved in together I had a giant roundy in our attic, and she let me choose a house which looked out over Tonbridge West yard. Were still great mates and her Dad and I often meet before exhibitions and have a drink.

The moral is just fess up as soon as NORMALLY possible. I would never go 'Oh my names Oly and I like baby trains'. I know some girls who really are adverse to it, they are not the girls for you as a passionate modeller.

  5. Hi all,

just a quick update that the website has been updated finally with the new releases from the ExpoEM North and Scaleforum shows, all in 4mm scale.

Work is about to commence on the SR N Class footplate as some basic dimensions and designs have been drawn up (no really it is Horsetan, i did say by the end of 2012!), the Austerity Lambton cab and hopefully depending on the test etches, a new 4mm scale loco kit that only took a few hours to create!

Some 2mm, 4mm and 7mm stuff should be sent off at the end of the week for test etches also.

I'm having another mould made soon so some patterns for whitemetal castings will be thrown in for some new parts soon.

    Lambton cabs - AWESOME!!!!!

  6. Brassmaster's bits are very good.

Best plates are Fox. They give you the choice of curly or straight 6 if you have a loco that used both versions. Not got a book to hand to check in this particular case.

The font and spacing are correct for each name and not just generic.

I prefer HMRS transfers as there is not the problem that you can get with Modelmaster in trying to remove the outline of the backing paper.

Thanks Bernard! The Brassmaster bits literally dropped on my door mat the second I posted that. They look very good, the instruction 'booklet' has however put the fear of god into me.

  7. Here is the latest arrival, as sort of first too - Thanks to this sub-forum specifically - it's my first WR Steamer.

I wanted an LNER pacific so went hunting on ebay. Rails of Sheffield we're obviously flogging someone's old collection and a model of Humorist with it's one off deflectors was brought for £55 with a DCC chip in to boot. The photos showed up some issues, and as can be seen in the below (all I've done is taken the deflectors off and taken her numbers off) she's had better days.

The body has also been treated to a brown brush over, all of which is to be covered by a liberal application of airbrush weathering.

I plan on making her 'Salmon Trout':

I would like to bow to your better knowledge in these kettle matters and I wondered if anyone had tried this kit:

    http://www.brassmasters.co.uk/a3_details.htm (which I've brought)

And whats the best company for Nameplates/transfers? I see that Modelmasters do locomotive changing kits with everything in a single bag for your chosen loco - anyone got any experience with these?

Anything else she needs to be ON IT chaps?

  8. Well 29721's a new one on me brother. Sir Murrough Wilson no less, and near Flex at what's I think, for me at least, a new locus. Nothing at all wrong with the EE Type 4 passing Belses, a personal favourite, and not a brake van in sight - which is a touch of major industrial relations significance.

As for that Dapol BRCW being rested by an A4, it is bordering on the mindblowing. :O

It freaked me out that A4, although by the look of the photo the streaker is under some strain, so she's either pushing the little one backwards with solid set wheels or she's dragging it with her creaking boiler.

Anyway that photo made me WONDER. Anyone got any ideas on it?

  9. I tried to see if these had gone on before, but by Christ* himself there is a lot on here. I understand that Bruce's legend collection has been seen by most, but on looking for A4s and car trains I stumbled across this nice collection. The last one is nice, with the single Ford sat enjoying a face full of ash.

  10. I think this one was already linked to, and is one I've written about in a forthcoming piece:

Towards the final days of the line a few rare workings took place, including that of a class 27 working the 15:58 Carlisle - Edinburgh on 7th November 1968, and on 2nd January 1969 the 09:20 Carlisle - Edinburgh had D5350 on the front only as far as Stainton Junction. Due to steam heat problems this was removed and replaced with a class 26, D5340 from Kingmoor, whilst D5350 went onto the depot.

If only the 27, D5350 had remained on the train the photo could well have been a Holy Grail!

Cheers Matt, so close yet so far. That guy on Flickr has got some seriously rude shots, including this one:

    Edinburgh, St Margarets 64A.

I'm assuming from the caption that was a WR train?

Off topic, but part of the same collection, unbelievably awesome photo:

    Neville Hill, Leeds.

  11. Sorry to jump in at such a late and developed stage - 'Chard excuse the interruption but I found some that might be worth a share.

I hope to be able to dip in and out with some more stuff in due course and the inspiration on the WR is ON IT.

    Keep it up!
