  1. Hello David We had to list a number of items in such a way and you are right that - as far as I know - none actually are made at the moment. There are other headings where it is difficult to be precise. We have worked closely with a number of clubs and societies to fill a number of gaps that recent announcements have left. There will be at least three MR-specific vehicles along with individual vehicles for numerous other companies for 2024. If you have followed the poll over the years, you will have seen our notes stating that we were steadily expanding individual vehicles. In respect of the GSWR - and bearing in mind our space constraints, there being a potential excess of 30,000 items to list - the company has always been at the low end of low polling, so we took the decision to leave it out. It might go back one day though. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  2. Hello Covkid You - and anyone - are welcome to make suggestions for 2025 and they will 'get a fair hearing'. When we had an Industrial category in the main Poll, the 0-4-0 Fireless loco was Top 50 in 2018 having climbed from High Polling in 2016. Brian (on behalf of The Quirky Poll Team)
  3. Hello again PhilJ W I have found the answer... The main poll notes show that I was supposed to move it to Quirky for this year - and I have somehow failed to do that!🤪 It is going on the 2025 Agenda now! Brian (on behalf of The Quirky Poll Team)
  4. Hello PhilJ W The Bug was in the main poll and was Middle Polling in 2018 and High Polling in 2019. At present, I am unsure why we didn't relist it in 2022 (the next Poll to run) so have dropped a note to The Team. It might take a day or two to answer. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  5. Hello adb968008 The Paget loco was in the 2019 Poll but was Low Polling, so it has been deleted. That's not to say that it won't ever appear again, though. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  6. Hello E100 Lucie was in the 2021 Poll but only achieved Middle Polling. For this and future Polls, we maintain the Top 3 and High Pollers, but replace all Middle and Low. Brian (on behalf of The Quirky Poll Team)
  7. Hello Andrew The 08e arrived on the scene just too late for this year but was placed on the 2025 Agenda by one of the Team. Brian (on behalf of The Quirky Poll Team)
  8. Thanks Mark - a good point. I think what we had in mind was the 'visible type' and - as you say - the Head Wrightson is definitely quirkier! Brian (on behalf of The Quirky Poll Team)
  9. The Quirky Poll 2023 Hello everyone Welcome to this latest Quirky Poll. We run this in conjunction with our friends Andy York & Phil Parker of RMweb. In the past, many of you have found these Polls to be just what we intended… ‘a little bit of Christmas fun’! You will find 25 items to vote for – some of which are your suggestions from 2021 – each with a link to a photo and/or further detail. The ‘actual Poll’ can be accessed via the usual banner headline entry at the top of the page or via a link on this page I think (Andy will load that during the day if not already done). We haven’t listed certain suggestions as models are available – albeit from overseas makers. You may tick as many items as you like, but – although this is ‘Christmas fun’ – they must be items that you would realistically wish to buy if they were ever made (as you do with The 00 Wishlist Poll) – it is not to decide ‘the quirkiest’. The Top Item of the 2021 Poll – the Streamlined B17 – has been made as has the Top Item from 2019 – Stephenson’s Rocket – and the Top Two of the 2020 Poll – Bellerophon and Titfield Thunderbolt. Will you pick some more winners this year? OK…stop working and get quirking! You have until 18.00 on Friday 29 December 2023 to vote. We aim to publish the results in the usual Poll Team format as soon as we can on 1 January 2022 – look for the title: Results – The Quirky Poll 2023. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you all! The Poll Team Robert Carroll, Chris Knowles-Thomas, John Lewis, Jeff Lynn, Brian Macdermott, Nick Stanbury & Ian Taylor Link to poll
  10. Hello Bob C The 00 Wishlist Poll Team runs The 00 Wishlist Poll every two years (alternating with The Quirky Poll which will be starting shortly). If you search: Results - The 00 Wishlist Poll 2022, you might find some answers. Brian
  11. Hello everyone Apologies for the slight delay in writing - an elderly family member has just come out of hospital and I have been tied up with 'the care package'. Indeed, as Andy rightly says, The Quirky Poll 2023 is currently with him to set up 'the computerised elements' from our supplied data - exactly as per the main poll. Although The Polls are hosted by RMweb, it is not connected with them and has no influence on them. Andy kindly arranges the ‘computerised elements’ for us in his own time. Our full intention is to run The 00 Wishlist Poll in 2024 and alternate year-on-year with Quirky. In the first instance, look out for the thread The Quirky Poll 2023 from around mid-December. We will run until towards the end of December, with Results asap in January 2024. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)

  13. Hello everyone Congratulations to Dapol on this EMU announcement - we wish them every success with the project. Within The 00 Wishlist Poll, the class has tended to be Low Polling. However, it went up to Middle Polling in 2019 but slipped back to the top end of Low in 2022 (the next Poll to run). It was only four votes behind the Class 411 recently announced by Bachmann (which was Middle Polling). Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  14. Hello Chris That's good news - many thanks for your efforts and your welcome move into 00!🙂👍 Brian
  15. Hello Chris I am very much looking forward to the Quad Arts!😃 Not wishing to add to your workload but will it be possible to have a video of how the coupling works and how they run round second radius curves? I can't get to Warley. I am sure you have overcome the 'problem' of close-coupling and I am intrigued to see how you have done it. Many thanks Brian
  16. Hello everyone Many congratulations to Accurascale on this announcement - at least I won't have to read the word 'topfeed' in every other RMweb post from now on! (😀Only kidding GWR fans!😀) Seriously though, we wish them every success with project.👍 Within The 00 Wishlist Poll, we listed the 57xx/8750 for the first time in 2018 as it then came within our listing cut-off date. In that year, and again in 2019, the class was Middle Polling. In 2022, the next Poll to run, the class had climbed to High Polling, only missing The Top 50 by just six votes. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  17. Hello John My 'sorting sidings' lay slightly downhill towards the stop blocks (as per prototype). I have just tacked 40 wagons onto No.7810 - started without even the slightest slip!🙂 Brian
  18. Hello everyone Many congratulations to Heljan on this welcome announcement - we wish the project every success.👍 Within The 00 Wishlist Poll, we have only listed the Class 44 in the two most recent Polls (2019 and 2022) and it was Middle Polling around the half way mark. (Just a reminder: The Poll Team believes it could list well over 30,000 items so the fact that any item is half way or above is a very good result!) Speaking personally, I will certainly have one of the 'originals' as I was lucky enough to be a trainspotter when they were first introduced. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  19. Hello St Enodoc Fully concur with that. I have left the occasional wider gap on my running lines and the sound effects are very pleasing. Talking of gaps... When I built my layout, I deliberately very slightly angled my freight sidings away from the Goods Line (as per prototype). Modern RTR rolling stock is very free running so, to overcome everything running to the stop blocks, I have strategically positioned some slightly wider than usual gaps where wagons 'drop' into the slot. If you have a number of adjacent sidings (like me), it's best to 'stagger' the slots so that the wagon stopping spots look more naturally random. Brian
  20. Hello Rob That's correct. We hadn't listed the class for many years as the DJM model was 'current'. However, because of all the troubles surrounding the company (and the model) we decided to re-list. As Miss Prism has shown, it was the 'most wanted' GWR loco and came in at overall position sixth. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  21. Hello Tony and everyone Some years ago, when The 00 Poll Team was struggling to bring down The Poll content from way over 1000 items to a more voter-friendly level, we developed a 15-box checklist to decide whether an item should or shouldn't go in, depending on how many points it scored up to a maximum of 28. Boxes 'scored' 1, 2 or 3 points with some 'weighted'. I won't publish the checklist here (as The Poll Team worked long and hard on it) but - for example - a couple of 'boxes' were: Is the item publicly popular? (Articles, books, seen on the real and/or preserved railways) Is there potential for variants? (Liveries, cabs, tenders, etc) When you sit down and 'score' items that have been made, it is easy to see why! To be clear, The 00 Poll Team has never claimed that models are made because of The Poll - but The Poll should closely reflect what is made, and we believe it has done that over the years. One-offs? Below is how some have fared in The Poll: Bulleid Leader Consistently Top 50. Hush-Hush, GT 3, 18000, Big Bertha Originally High Polling but moved into The Top 50. (Big Bertha was consistently 'most wanted' LMS loco.) Turbomotive, LNER Garratt, 10100 Consistently High Polling for some years. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  22. Hello Chris I know Simon Kohler very well and recall speaking with him at an exhibition where he was very clear that those such as I, The Poll Team, and many who write here, are more of the exception than the norm (said in the nicest context in case anyone takes that the wrong way!) Brian
  23. Hello Jamiel Fully agree there! I come from the printing industry and have lost count of how many times I have seen counterfeit gangs 'printing £10 notes' on a printing machine that would struggle to cope with the average business card! Aviation has similar anomalies - I have seen a film where a pilot flying mid-Atlantic was speaking directly to an air traffic controller in Heathrow Tower!🙂 My wife had much to do with horses in her younger days. Whenever you see a horse in a film, they seem obliged to make it 'whinny' - never happens in real life like that. As you say, there will always be someone who spots these things. Brian
  24. Hello everyone Many congratulations to Ellis Clark on this model - we wish them every success with the project!👍 Within The 00 Wishlist Poll, the class has been in The Top 50 from the start. In 2022 - the most recent poll - the class came in at overall position 18th. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  25. Hello everyone Congratulations to Heljan on this big announcement - we wish them every success with the project. Within The 00 Wishlist Poll, the class has been Middle Polling up to 2015 but High Polling in the latest four polls. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
