  1. Lovely thing to see, I had a feeling it might come to fruition and am very glad to see it! Sets a similar trend to the C1 and Brighton Atlantics in being the first of it's wheel arrangement RTR, let's hope there's more. One curiosity I had was to the LMS Crimson example, aside from what I believe is the first RTR example of this particular transitional livery, but I'm unsure if the wheels would have been fully painted? Was this typical of Crewe and/or the LMS prior to 1925/26?
  2. So are the A2/2s only being tooled up with the A1 boilers? If so I'll be put off buying these, only looking for LNER liveries and BR period only would really limit their scope on the market.
  3. The A2/2s I feel may have been kept as 2-8-2s if the issues with the Gresley pony truck had been resolved earlier on, but at any rate they became pacifics, one has to remember Thompson was simply doing his job, and at a time where he couldn't build much in the way of new engines he had to sort to mainly rebuilding. The P2s were a prime candidate for this treatment, Thompson had the right ideas with the pacifics, but it took until after he left to smooth them out properly, the equal connecting rods were not the wisest choice. I'm thrilled to see these at any rate, the A2/2s just have a sleek look that makes them one of my favorite types, especially in Apple Green. Suppose we may see an LNER or transitional livery a little later on?
  4. As with the last 2-3 years I'm quite happily surprised with Hornby's announcements, and whilst before it was with range diversity this year it seems to be entirely catered towards me! Never dreamed I'd see Thompson Pacifics RTR, and once more ruffling feathers but really for Gresley related reasons...! Let's give the poor man a break, please. Only thought I'd ever see an A2/3 from Bachmann, but also an A2/2? I must be dreaming I'm so happy, but if only one of the first releases was Apple Green (until there's more confirmation?). Hush Hush I thought would happen at some point, given Cock O The North, Hornby's always been one for high profile engines! Always wanted her in original guise. What I'm most intrigued by are the Stanier carriages, I'm not knowledgeable on the Coronation Scot rakes but how many of these diagrams can be done up as regular coaches? I'd be very pleased to more evenly round out a set of LMS stock. Well done Hornby!
  5. Don't see this being a good decision! Looks like another poor attempt at attracting a younger market to model trains.
  6. Generally I'm quite happy with the way these look, I'm mainly interested in the underframes but want to see what these look like painted, mainly GCR. I don't know if there's been discussion of some more diagrams for the 6 wheelers? The likes of a Family Saloon would be rather interesting.
  7. I'm actually quite pleased with this announcement in regards to the underframes, the measurements shown mean I could use a 6 wheel one for my Slaters full brake body I've had laying around! Would be quite good for scratch and kitbuilt bodies as well. I think having other diagrams in the future would be beneficial, others have stated a full brake and I highly agree with this, very common vehicles as far as 6 wheelers go, also possibly some sort of Saloon? @Hattons Dave
  8. Duplication of minor prototypes is one thing (The Adams Radial is still the most ridiculous in my eyes), but it's another thing to go "I have an IP on that so you can't make it", when that persons product is inaccurate to the prototype and duplication would actually fix their mistakes! I know myself that I would much rather have the Hornby B1 then the Bachmann one for instance. Competition is competition, and if Dave actually held off announcing items until they were further along in the design and production stage then the belief that he takes forever to make anything might just suddenly disappear, one can't exactly blame others for shooting themselves in the own foot.
  9. Hello, abit of a specific query; I recently bought the Hornby Maude but have no interest in retaining the chip, I removed it and the speaker and put a spare blanking plate in but now the loco will only run in one direction, IE it will run forwards and not backwards, but if I pick it up and turn it round it will go backwards and not forwards. Any help on the matter?
  10. So these were marshaled in sets of 4, were multiple sets put together depending on the service? I'm mainly interested in GC/GW joint line services and don't know a huge amount about GWR coaches!
  11. Has there been any confirmation about which livery Princess Elizabeth will be in? If it's postwar black I'm afraid I'll be waiting until they make a LMS Crimson one! Very pleased about this, however I thought it would have been done before the Duchesses, now if only we can get The Princess Royal as built at some point.
  12. Once upon a time folks it was stated that Hornby and Bachmann were going to try and do their best not to duplicate eachother And yet here we are! Seems just as ridiculous as the Adams Radials honestly, do we truly need 2 manufacturers working on Bulleid coaches?
  13. I don't think we need more specialist rolling stock, while the ex S&D saloon is a lovely vehicle it's rather limited, and the idea of a pack of GNR six wheelers is much more useful in my mind.
  14. It all depends really on the person who drew it, some drawings like F.J.Roche's are just ones that should not be touched, whereas anything by J N Maskelyne is of excellent quality. For works diagrams they can sometimes be iffy on details and accuracy, as some were really meant to just give a general idea, like those from a diagram book. As a side note adjustment in some photo editing software is usually required to make sure everything's on the level rather than slightly tilted!
  15. I would definitely recommend reading the Oakwood Press Biography on Robinson, most older publications seem to have much misinformation on Robinson's 4-6-0s and it seems to be as bad as publications on Edward Thompson; I'd say also look into the Yeadons and RCTS Green Books relating to class but be wary towards any information relating to performance!
  16. Being interested in the GCR, I too would very much appreciate an A5! Similar to the D11 in that you have two versions over 2 regions, would certainly be another type that would probably fit Bachmann's to do list well, but at this point I'm unsure if we'd see any other Great Central types, only reason we got a J11 was due to Bachmann wanting to use the tender tooling a third time.
  17. I have been quite surprised that Dapol haven't announced one within the last 2-3 years, but given the discussion here I can understand their hesitation. It does however seem a bit unfounded when you think about, given the age of the old Dapol/Hornby tooling not many people are going to be interested in more of that, even with a price reduction in the Railroad range (and more basic liveries to boot), in my mind aside from a handful of people looking for the cheap and cheerful option, there's nothing Dapol have to fear of going for the third scale with this prototype, seeing as this is definitely a type that people have been wanting an up to date version of.
  18. My only question is what would it take to be able to buy a couple!
  19. Rather dissapointed at it being a Southern version (with an LNER interest a GWR catering set would have been more use to me for instance), but saying that the fact we have an RTR catering set at all is a terrific step forward, hopefully this is the foot in the door for the rest of the big four, Gresley, Stanier and Collett alike.
  20. Mainly down to the livery, Butler Henderson is modeled as preserved are there are significant differences to how it was restored vs how it was when first turned out of Gorton, mainly the incorrect font and lack of polished trim.
  21. Well that's quite a bit of my money gone! Looks to be far more correct then Butler Henderson.
  22. After seeing this announcement I have a general inquiry relating to the Great Western and great central joint lines; I'm not sure I'd get one of moguls as they were mostly displaced by Halls on inter-regional workings to the GCR by the 30s (given the liveries being offered), now I know the 51xx's could be seen around the joint lines but I want some more solid information on this as the only photos I've seen of them relating to the GCR have been with Some of the inter regional workings over GWR territory! Can anyone provide info on this? Thanks.
  23. After finding out a Hornby J15 is a very close match to Smellie/Manson 0-6-0s this came about. It actually works pretty well!
  24. One can hope they update the mess that is the Triang Single! I consider the most likely Scottish engines to be made would be an 812, J36 or Caley Single, if this does bear fruit hopefully more down the road?
  25. Not surprising, similar happened with the GCR J11 when they showed an EP sample with original boiler fittings (the LNER cut down most Robinson engines for the standard loading gauge by the end of the 20's), and since they showed a sample of the H2 with bogie brake shoes I think it's likely this will be a Collectors Club model for next year.
