The older Walthers gondols kits used to come with what you describe. A pair of raised bulkhead ends for carrying loads of pipe etc and a coil cradle which sits on the floor. Ive never seen an Athearn gondola with corrugated sides, maybe your models have been reboxed at some point.

Dunno if this is the correct place.
I'm toying with the idea of a small chemical plant on my US project.
Would
wagonscars like these be used to carry powder/small granulated products (as well as in "proper" covered hoppers)?TIA,
Cheers,
Mick
Heres some in use carrying copper concentrate/ore, so I would think it would be prototypical. https://www.flickr.com/photos/mackinacmark/14908934443/in/gallery-94136938@N06-72157648764520476/

Lets all be smug and gloat at the Germans result, I mean we've qualified out of such a 'tough' group.

It looks like a screen shot from the Transport Video Publishing DVD "Pick Up Freight", which is a great record of Norfolk pick-up freight train operation in the 1960s. Filmed over several days, the loco and train changes between shots, but that doesn't jar at all; the 31 burbling through the countryside, shunting here and there, is so enthralling. Truly a by-gone era.

Just ordered the the DVD, thanks for the heads up.

Just came upon this video on the Model Railroader site, thought it may be of use to anybody interested in switching layouts. Details very clearly the operations involved in switching an industrial park.

The Trinity 3281 car has been previously done by American Limited Models. I presume the Walthers version will be less detailed and cheaper?
Good morning everyone, just to clarify, the new WalthersMainline® 39' Trinity 3281 Covered Hopper is based on later production prototypes with seven side panels; five large and two narrow.

Some great pictures on this thread. At the risk of veering off topic I delivered last night to Grimsby fish market. Inside the docks there is a section of long disused street trackage on Wharncliffe Road. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=72536001&page=1 .With two neatly laid inlaid lines down the middle of the road bordered with old rundown looking warehouses it really has the same sort of atmosphere as some of the pictures posted. Could almost imagine meeting a switcher and a few freight cars creeping along.

Saw online auction for equipment from Thomsons well known Stockton scrapyard this week. A quick google search reveals the yard is being cleared for redevelopment. Such a shame this was a massive place at one time with extensive sidings and many shunters. http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/business/business-news/end-era-stockton-scrap-yard-12586661

Re the van traffic from Kirkcudbright. According to the book published to celebrate the centinery of local hauliers Hayton Coulthard sacks of powdered milk were transferred onto these wagons from the creamery across the bridge. Such was the volume of traffic that on closure of the line the small local haulier undertaking the work ceased business. Also shown in the book is a large coaster loading this cargo at the nearby harbour.
