Hi Sundoger
SNAP! My first scratch built loco was one of these too when I was 16. I used the same drawing, I think it was RM circa 1964. I later found out it was not much better than a sketch! However a very interesting engine, the heaviest 0-4-0 Tank built for a British railway and a good choice.
Like you I used tinplate, from cocoa tins for the body cut out with mothers best scissors! and brass curtain rail off cuts for frames. I learned to solder with a fire heated copper bolt borrowed from my Grandad. Wheels were Hamblings and the motor was a Triang XT60 It worked and here is the only record I have of it along with some of my later 00 models.
I disposed of my 00 stuff when I changed to P4 in the 70s and regret selling the pug. Something I much regret now. However I have since moved up to S7 and have recently built a replacement. This time I had access to the GA drawing and lot of experience. Here is a picture taken last Summer.
Happy modelling,
Ian

I am looking to have a go at producing my own track as when looking at other railways it allows you to produce points etc in the shape that you want also i was wanting to have some duel gauge track on my layout but the pre made stuff has big price tag.
Looking over the internet there are a few ways of doing it but i haven't found a website or discussion that show you how it is done with pictures (probably haven't been looking hard enough). Can anyone suggest a good website or form that will help, I also am open to all the advice i can get as i am a complete noobie.
Thanks Ash
i am also noobie going straight to kit building

I'm doing it so I can have it for dcc

I want to do a layout that's freelance but LBSCR is the king of the land . Also including a transfer yard layout oo/009 with some guest locks that are not LBSCR

Good evening 'Modeller',
As prescribed in the majority of DJH's instructions (for tender locos), no pick-ups are needed, because the system suggested is the 'American' style, where the loco and tender are 'live' to opposite sides, conjoined by an insulated drawbar. There are even instructions on how to short-out the insulated tender wheels by drilling a hole through the plastic insulation between the wheels' bosses and the axles and force-fitting a short length of brass/nickel silver rod.
I dislike the system (though others have used it with success - it obviates the need for wipers and the like) and use PCB pick-up pads fixed to the frames' spacers, with nickel silver wipers to collect the current.
Regards,
Tony.
Thanks for reply

Yes. But more wire than actual pickups. You might want to replace it with something else such as phosphor bronze or nickel silver.
All wires and such are included, screws, handrail knobs, etc. Although they don't come with wheels and motors anymore. You also normally get a few number and name plates relevant to the model.
Have a look at this page here if it's your first one. Good solid advice.

Probably the hardest type of Loco to build due the weight distribution on the wheels . I would recomend a 0-6=0 as a first kit.
I dont think any kits come with pickups. Most pick ups on kits kits are made using Nickel silver wire, bent to shape.
thanks . i picked it because of price and i like 0-4-4 and i cannot currently afford any 0-6-0 kits by them

hey tony. quick question about DJH kits . do they come with pickups
