  1. I have four of these switchers... they're virtually bullet-proof.  To remove body shell, unscrew couplers, and then body shell should lift off.  Product review in Model Railroader November 2013.  Can access review by going on-line to MR website and searching product reviews for diesel/ho/Alco.  Also good product review for S4 in Model Railroad Craftsman June 2012.  Trusting this helps. ... coh

  2. Grew up in NYC riding this line... The 7 Line runs from Flushing, Main Street originally to Times Square, Manhattan, and recently extended to 34th Street, Manhattan.  In years gone by, the highlight of the ride was the two crossings of Sunnyside Yard in Long Island City, with a view of the Long Island Railroad freight yards, the LIRR Montauk Cut-off, and LIRR Hunters Point Avenue Station from which the LIRR Cannonball with classic heavyweight parlor cars and headed by two Alco C420 diesels would depart on Friday evenings for the Hamptons and Montauk.  The picture is of the Queensboro Plaza  elevated station with a Flushing Main Street bound 7 Line train on  the left and an Astoria, Queens BMT-division train on the right.  A great site for information on the LIRR history, operations, track plans, and the LIRR in Long Island City is trainsarefun.com  Enjoy the video... have ridden the 7 Line in the front car with the motorman's view many, many times. ... coh

  3. The BNSF local about to go round the corner and as you say it is rare for a UP service to show up at the same time. I have only seen it once before and failed to get a picture.

I also was logged-in to the cam when this meet happened, and unable to click the shutter quick enough to capture moment. Appreciate having the moment preserved! ... coh

All… I also spotted this work train. Did a little Internet research and found the following on YouTube:

CNW 261531 caboose and Union Pacific Crane in Dixon IL

Union Pacific Crane with Chicago North Western Caboose (CNW) in Dixon IL

This is a doable modeling project:

Walthers #932-41957 American Crane (Yellow), DC powered. Still available either powered or unpowered from retailers or the “the” auction site. Can be converted to DCC. There’s just enough room in the cab for a decoder: http://www.dccwiki.com/Walthers_American_Crane

Ex-CNW 4-window Eastern caboose (various manufacturers) painted UP Roadway (Kenefick) green. Lehigh Valley green or New York Central green are a close match.

Missouri Pacific 60-foot flat car. Intermountain TTX wood deck flat car would fit.

General purpose 50-foot fish belly flat car kit-bashed per video

Train can be run as shuttle on a DC layout with a Gaugemaster SS-1 Super Shuttle Unit, or on DCC layout with a Tam Valley Depot DCC Train Shuttle unit: http://tamvalleydepot.com/products/trainshuttle.html
