  1. Can You Help Me Please Once I decided to build a 0 Gauge layout I but quickly found out the limit of PECO Points and their radius was not what I required so I turned to an alternative product. This resulted in building or purchasing point work. This also meant that a method of point control had to be found and I went for the PECO SmartSwitch system built by ANE mode in the USA. Fellow users will know about the system and how you can configure the software. They will also know there are three main components, a Servo programming Board, a ten pin ribbon cable which connects to the, Control Board which supplies data used by the servo. My request to you all is for help regarding the ten pin cable connection. This should be a very simple connection, with a push fit, but I cannot keep the ribbon cable firmly in its place in to the Control Board. This cable gives you the flexibility to move around your layout be it under or over. I like the product but sadly I get annoyed with the continue brake down whilst programming the servo. So have you found a way round this problem....please help!! Keith Gowen
  2. Hello, Has any 0 gauge Modeller tried to remove the Class 31 under plate of the bogie? There are six screws, but are there any clips holding that I should be be made aware. Thanks Keith Gowen
  3. I thought Ian Morrison’s comments on last night’s Great Model Railway Challenge, were interesting. Clearly the Missenden Modellers cannot produce good modelling on the spot, and tried to illustrate that they were above any rules laid down by the programme makers. Barry their captain for me had an arrogant attitude, claiming, that his team was going to win right from the start.........what a come down...and Kathy Millatt’s final comments about his team, really put them in their place! One of the other Captains Malcolm, who led the team Strangers on a Model Train, for me, summed up the Scratch Build Challenge, as totally stupid, pointing out that we are model makers and not clowns as he had misgivings about the challenge. I had looked forward to the programme helped by reading the articles in the last two editions of the Railway Modeller and feel the “judges are out” on this one. I hope it doesn’t do our great hobby any displeasure, in not seeing more modelling action rather the contestants playing to the camera. Ian’s comment about the similarity of the contestants, thinking they were on the Apprentice is great and I would sum up the Missenden Modellers as.... you are fired!! Keith Gowen

  5. Afternoon, Following my request back in May 17, on this web site I asked for information, tips etc on keeping my garden track clean, I have had many helpful replies. Some I have shared with you in their replies. I think I have finally come up with a good solution in the 0 gauge Scale. Firstly I purchased from Digitrains at Lincoln, an 0 guage CMX Car, as I had read many good reviews on this product, plus very helpful video on You TUBE. I also took the opportunity to email Tonystrains in the USA, who sell & build the car. For those who are not formilular with the CMX system it basically is a large heavy tank for which fluid is inserted by way of a 5-10cc syringe with alcohol. Under neath the tank are two skid pads which are covered by a corduroy type of upholstery fabric with backing. A valve adjusts the “ drip “ flow onto the pads which in turn wipes the track. The trick however is just not the I P A but Caig Deoxit Solution, which is mixed in the tank as follows: Purchase 25ml DeOxit D100L, a bit pricey, add to this a pint of 91% isopropyl alcohol. Both solutions can be inserted into the tank with a syringe. Mix the two together and off you go pushing or pulling with your best loco. This wagon/car is heavy!! The DeOxit D1000L product is designed to clean electrical contacts whilst the I P A dissolves the gunk!! The above is just an overview.....two weeks ago I cleaned the outside track of my garden railway with tanker car full of the mixture and during that period with three days of rain and sun my locos travel round the layout without any problems. To test I even put the loco directly onto the exposed track and went into my indoor DCC control system, pressed F1 to check for sound and off we went. One last thing, loco wheels must be clear, one of our golden rules, and 98% troubled running outside was achieved. Lastly much can be read on the internet with good video, in fact this months Railway Modeller has a feature on this very subject. Thanks to all you replied to my request. Forum item closed as far as I am concerned. Keith Gowen
  6. Can you help please? With the warm weather in UK beginning to appear our thoughts as 0 gauge garden railway modellers turn to uncovering, operating & possible track alignment. However, one problem that I have experienced over the last two years is dirt on the track, together with possible sap blotches, from nearby trees, appearing on the track, resulting in the stoppage of my locos. I am operating a Lenz DDC system, with over 60 yards of double track. The rest of my layout is contained in a Log Cabin. So my question to those with similar garden railways is; How do you keep the track clean during operating sessions, after the initial clean and with what ?? Use of IPA or other track type cleaner Special cleaning vehicle/truck There must be a wealth of information out there and hopefully having read my plea you will you will record through these pages. Regards Keith Gowen
  7. Message for Karhedron, Back in December 14 I wrote enquiring into size of branding wording for K42 Full Brake in 7mm scale. Although some time has passed you might be interested to know that Fox Transfers have finally produce the goods, in 7mm. The sheet contains many variations to destinations so you can have many full Brakes with various locations, particularly as shown in Russel's books. Fox Transfer reference for the above sheet is FRH 7117 at £6.50 for two sheets, entitled Great Western Railway Collett Full Brake Van Lettering. Although I appreciate you model in N Guage/ 2mm Scale I am sure Linda at Fox would be only too happy to reduce to your scale. Thanks for your help Keith
  8. HI, I recently did a search here on GWR K42 Passenger Full Brake Van by Collett and found your topic. The thread has been most interesting as I am building the vehicle in 7mm. I too have taken many pictures of a K42 preserved at Buckfastleigh on the SDR. I am impressed the workmnanship you Guys have put in the get Daplo to produce a great model. My search is for correct branding transfers and have Fox Transfers are very interested in the detail aspect that seems to be missing, namely branding "town" names, Parcels Train Brake Van etc which in my opion makes the model. Please can you help me from all your research. What size were the branding lettering. In Great Western Way book they mention 92 high but is this correct. Sorry if duplication in the threard but I cannot find this mentioned. Look forward to your reply Kind regards Keith
