Looks nice Dave. Regarding Lentz or Reidinger valve gear. If the cardan shaft universal joints have shrouds then it is Lentz. If joints are exposed then it is Reidinger. All the Crabs fitted with rotary valve gear (42818, 42822, 42824, 42825 and 42829) were converted to Reidinger in 1953. I still haven't finished my model of 42825. It stalled as I wanted to make better looking UJs for the Reidinger valve gear. The Comet UJ castings are very overscale.

Nice video Robin. You have the 8F parentage correct

The reverse Stanier is a brake van you don't often see. The Chivers kit?

Perhaps John but I didn't really think so. It is something that you would walk / stand on. Maybe I should have said "foot plate" rather than "footplate". I hope Ivan isn't still scratching his head with a dismantled 9F in front of him.
Anyway, it is all academic now as Dave has guessed correctly. It is a master for one of the Barrow Road turntable kerb castings. There are 24 of these that, as Dave rightly points out, go in the 4 foot. There are two further kerb masters to make. One goes in 20 locations in the narrow gap between roundhouse roads and the other, the largest of the three, goes between the roads that have a roof support column.
I'll draft a new blog posting when I get more time to explain how I made them and how I intend to make the replicas.

Give that man a prize! Well done Dave you are on the right track. Can you be more specific?

Firebox wrapper
No

Ivan, it's not a press tool but you are slightly warm with the footplate comment.

Liking that very much Dave. I hope it is heavy and has a big motor. I went round to Robin's last night and we were discussing requirements for loco hauling power. 11 coaches pretty typical up Fishponds bank.

Not necessarily all new technology. So far I have done a 3D model of one of the kerb stones but it is my intention to try and make this on a new CNC 3 axis mill that I have access to at work. I need to wait for a few bits of tooling and engraving cutters I have ordered to arrive before trying it out.

Nice work Dave. Guess what I've done with my Rotary Crab? That's right absolutely nothing. Perhaps mine is only going in circles instead of sideways. I'd like to see what you've done with the sprung doors. The finest PB wire I have is 41SWG which is only 0.0044" diameter.

Yes I do. It is paint that I gave him. I'll send you details.

That's what you get for living out in dial up land but I guess the sea views make up for it.

Thanks for all of the positive comments

A very nice looking 2P. Excellent stuff.

Hi Dave, a couple of weeks Robin and I were looking at a photo of a FPL fouling bar in some track work near Barrow Road. It looked to be a similar length to yours and seemed to have pivot supports every other sleeper. However, in some cases it was every third sleeper. I'm sure a message to Robin would get you a copy of the picture.

DeathWatch,
The replacement planks are simply picked out with a light grey or natural wood paint colour over the original wagon finish. Successive applications of dirty washes and paint streaking give the grain effect.

Nice cobbling Tim. Bet you're glad that is finished. The water tower looks like it has been copied from the one still extant at Ashchurch. I'm afraid to say we copied it first but changed it to red brick.

The buildings really change the character of the layout. I can't believe nearly a year has gone by since Robin, Paul and I came by to have a look.

Thanks for posting this Dave, it has reminded me that I need to get on with my Reidinger geared Crab. A neat solution on the UJs. I think I'll pinch the ideas off you if that is OK?

Chaps, what you need is some drying retarder. I'm using Vallejo acrylics a lot these days and a spot of retarder mixed in with the paint on the palette lengthens the working time.

Great work Tim! One of those tedious and thankless tasks that really is worth the effort in IMHO. The end result, uneven unpainted, looks just right.

Tim, I'm sure the driver and fireman won't need much persuading to drop off a few wagons as long as it is over lunchtime and they can pop to the chippy for some refreshments.

Hi Andrew,
This seems to be progressing very well. With respect to your crank throw problem would a bit of work with an escapement file at each inside end of the slidebar solve the problem? By the looks of it only an extra 0.5mm or so would be needed at both ends. You might also be able to cheat a bit off the front and back of the crosshead with a file.

Pannier Tank for Trench Sidings

Hi David, before you weather it you might want to consider reversing the cycling lion emblem on the right hand tank side. The Bachmann pannier is a real easy conversion and runs ever so well.
