Decided to dust off my 7mm locos , all kit built over the years and have been mothballed for around 7 years..
I have built a new layout , (The last one was sold on ebay all those years ago). Its wired so I can run either DCC or DC.
1 loco I have which is annoying the hell out of me was an old 85a Models hunslet, the coupling rods keep flying off, This was a rash purchase at a swap meet. As you maybe aware this model was produced as either an RTR or a kit built with a ready built chassis. Any one got any bright ideas about how to sort the issue bear in the wheels are on split axles and the coupling rods are plastic.
I have a DCC system and chips which came out of my H0 OBB/DB digital layout Kleine Raume which has been scrapped. The thing I am wondering is, is there any point in chipping my fleet of locos etc or do I stick with the DC..
I haven't seen many DCC 7mm layouts around recently on the circuit. So I am wondering if modellers are having the same thoughts...
okay most people who see me around the Exhibition circuit see me with either a very large OBB layout called Michaelerplatz , or one of my smaller OBB layouts..
However a long time ago in a far off galaxy.. a few years after I designed a layout called Tedburn St Mary (00) GWR &SR. I stuck my toe into the 7mm ether..
I built a 7mm layout using C&L components and exhibited it a couple of times. (There were comments concerning my building a perfectly nice curved 7mm point and then cutting it in half - due to a baseboard joint)..Due to a need for space that layout came and went.. Now I am building a new layout in 7mm," Gurney Slade" I have dusted off my stock which seems fine after all these years.
I made an impulse purchase on ebay of a part built Eric Underhill Jinty..Thing is its missing build instructions also I need guidance over whether to stick an ABS motor and gearbox or something else to power this The chassis has been well built.
I have a 7mm part built chassis for a jinty ... This was purchased from a Probate sale. No instructions. So I need to get the wheels off... As whoever built it has failed to put the gear set onto the chassis !
Nice one... I have a Mashima 40/1 plus gear box which I will need to mount .. Also I have to remove the mounting plate which is in the way ...
Need some assistance .. Has anyone one who has , or has owner a 7mm 85a models Hunslet any idea whose wheels were used on the model? As I said before the coupling rods refuse to stay on the loco- The reason being that the plastic inserts that we fitted into the wheels have disintegrated and 2 are missing.
I believe that Judith Edge kits do/did a Hunslet similar to this loco but if I can find out whose wheels were used on the original model then maybe I could get a replacement set of parts/new wheel sets...
Other than that its new wheels ... Slaters I assume and make some new coupling rods... Life can a total B....
Other than that I have just finished replacing some fairly poor buffers with some decent sprung buffers on my 30 odd bits of 7mm rolling stock, I also have a 60 foot Stanier corridor composite in need of TLC - it came from a Probate sale - Anyone have any bright ideas of a source for Hand rail knobs and underframe detailing ?
