Maybe that's a problem with the underlying metadata for the N gauge locos rather than the search tool.

Hi, this doesn't happen to me. Can you test again, please?

Selecting N gauge and Accurascale or any other option except Farish brought up Graham Farish items this morning.

It looks like if the answer is 'zero matches' it simply shows everything N.

I'm struggling to replicate this can you send a video?

Here's an amusing example of the funkiness of the search.

I seared for the single word: manor

I then filtered to Accurascale and Pristine.

I got one manor class as a result along with Mark 2B coaches, Mark 2C's, 16T Mineral wagons etc. Going by the highlighting in the names I it was picking up things like "Mar" and "Miner" and for the best comedy it picked up a Class 37 and the highlight suggests it picked it up because of the word "Cantr".

Something very wrong with how the search engine processes words.

Hi Kaput, this is now fixed :)

I can relate to some of the inconsistencies with the search and filters..

In the spirit of being constructive criticism, so that my potential for future purchases in increased:

    Clearence section, I selected 00 Gauge and Era 9 & 10, I get several N-Gauge locos results.

The search engine is probably picking up OO in the loco number (is that the letter O or Zero Zero?), but still, the filter should be more accurate in what it’s pointer at. The scale filter should be looking at the scale details, and not the whole description.

Hey can you have another look we've been making more improvements, and we'd love to get more feedback! We've now got pre-owned and new options so you can select what you're looking for.

Apart from these few glitches, we hope you find our search brings up relevant results!

Yes I've been looking for 'Bachmann TEA' too.

Entering exactly that phrase brings up two Hornby teak coaches, and a Hornby TEA tank wagon first, then the Bachmann TEA tank wagons.

Entering 'Bachmann TEA tank' instead, I still get the Hornby one first. In each case the word 'Hornby' is highlighted as if it was in my search terms when it certainly wasn't.

Browsing through the clearance section in OO gauge>rail>pristine still gives me weathered stock  - the exclusive Peaks mainly. I can't select the new items - which is what I'm interested in. This same search also returns HO items - again why?

Thank you for the feedback, Hornby/Bachmann now changed so they don’t suggest each other! Other bits we’ll get onto!

For me it seems to return random partial matches. I just searched "Dapol MJA" (no quotation marks) and it yields this, the highlighting suggesting that I was searching for Farish items... But it looks like it's basically looking for any element of what I searched for.

    image.png.0a9f7ff021a759198c7b204bc0250388.png

I tried to see if you actually have them (it's just an example FWIW, and you don't), but I can't seem to filter by wagons unless I filter on "range". Filtering on "scale" doesn't actually narrow things down. I can filter on a huge number of categories, including whether it has working fans and sprung buffers, but not actually just wagons/rolling stock.

If it finds things then it's better, but the fuzzy matching is far too fuzzy. By all means if I search for Daplo, I probably wanted Dapol. But if I searched for IOA I probably didn't want every Ivatt spare you have. The suggestion that you've searched for an alternative brand is bizarre too.

If there is an exact match then it brings that up first, if not then it just brings up similar phrases or suggestions.

To filter by scale you just hit Rail, then click the categories at the top, so OO Gauge, then hit rolling stock, then hit wagons. Then you're just browsing OO wagons. Then you can filter by brand and whether you want tmc weathered or pristine, era. etc etc.

Please see video attached. Let me know if this doesn't work for you!

Hi Alex, thanks for responding.  It’s when you send out those tempting updates about new discounts on offer:  As you fully intend, it temps me to visit your site and see if there’s anything of interest… in my case I want to browse through your new OO gauge rail items (ie: excluding pre-owned) and see what you have in stock.  Like @Butler Henderson says, the filter options only allow me to select pre-owned rather than to select new items; and I also seem to end up with loads of pre-order items and things that are out of stock.  So what I want to see becomes swamped by too much of what I don’t want.  I accept that this search would deliver a large result anyway… but the lack of filtering makes it excessively tedious and unsatisfying, such that I no longer bother.

If I am looking for a specific item, it works fine…  it’s the ‘“I’ll just have a browse and see if there’s anything to temp me” visits that are an issue.  A surprising amount of my purchasing is done in this way, and until recently I’d buy several items a year from you, opportunistically.  But currently, you miss out on a potential sale, and I might be missing out on an opportunity.

I use Mac and iPad, if that has any bearing on site functionality.

    kind regards,

The search function or narrowing down a selection using the supplied options is often completely useless IME.  Locomotives pulls a Guagemaster Track Cleaning pad in its results while Warehouse Clearance - Rail ticked provides various cars, buses, lorries, aircraft, dionosaurs, bicycle, Airfix catalogue and  Gunther flying toys etc in its results, and if you then seek to limit to say OO you get no results found.

Why is there an option (assuming it works) to limit it to pre-owned but not one to exclude, or is that meant to include pre-owned only when ticked but does so regatdless,

    A complete shambles.

    Hi Butler,

There does seem to be a couple of products in the wrong category, we are going to address this, but amongst thousands of products we're talking a handful here.

Buses and cars and lorries are meant to be in the rail category as many are made for rail scales.

Limiting to oo gauge for me works fine.

Thank you for the feedback on pre owned, we will add a button in to exclude it or only see new.

We'd love you to work with us to help improve the site so any further feedback would be most welcome.

I prefer to browse other retailers websites now and only visit TMC as a last resort if I am looking for a specific item.  Which is a shame really, all that advertising activity, that then just drops you into an intensely frustrating Sean  function.

    Hi Chamby

We're sorry you feel this way! What is it about the search that you don't like? For me it gives the exact results I'm looking for every time. The more you type into our search the more specific the results. If you need help on how to use it then please feel free to give us a call. We are in the process of adding 'filters' into the search, this should be live within a week or so. Hope this helps!

Wasn’t D1960 delivered with ETH fitted, so presumably the production version will have an ETH plug fitted above the buffer beam?

Correct. We have two samples, a very early sample [shown above] and a pre-production sample, photographs of which have now been uploaded onto our website on the link above showing the ETH plug. The parts pack has also been fitted prior to photographing. Apologies for putting old photograph on this link, although it has at least provided a talking point! Actual model isn't too far away now, so not long to wait now hopefully.

@tmc will the plate wagons be released in LNER/LMS liveries please.

Rather than give you a one word answer here is a little insight into the perils of commissioning models, which you and others might find of interest.

The Bolster wagons were very significantly better sellers than the plate wagons, this was unexpected since relatively few Bolster wagons even made the sixties with their bolsters fitted and some which were listed as Bolster wagons in the order books we suspect never actually had the bolsters fitted. Plate wagons were more numerous and lasted a lot longer. The only Double Bolster wagons left in stock [but in significant quantities] are the Departmental version [38-830Z] and the LMS version [38-828Z]. Both of these are currently available on our website at a heavily discounted price.

The plate wagon sales have been slower and BR Grey versions generally have been more popular apart from 38-850Z & 38-856Z which are amongst several plate wagons also heavily discounted at present, whereas others have or are about to sell out. Strangely 38-827Z which is also a pack of Plate wagons in BR Grey but built with Bolster fittings [no bolsters] still has a reasonable stock.

The long winded explanation is because we are thinking of doing a few resprays of the those Plate Wagons we have biggest stocks of, an LNER version might be forthcoming [no promises, it might not even be economical] but we doubt an LMS version will since the Bolsters are hanging around at present. It is therefore worth keeping an eye on the website to see if these appear.

Thank you for your response, but I wouldn't waste time over this.

This all happened 3 years ago. I have no memory or record of an offer to switch models, or of any emails back to you, but I honestly can't imagine why I would have switched.  Perhaps I did and I'm more forgetful than I think I am.

I hold no animosity against TMC. My previous post was meant to be read as "this thing happened and I couldn't remember it". I was tempted to go back and edit my post, but that would be unfair to Bernard Lamb and his response.

It has indeed been a long time.

No worries, found on our system and cancelled so you shouldn't get any more reminders.

I, too, have recent received an email encouraging me to pay for my pre-ordered G5.

The problem was that I couldn't imagine why I would have pre-ordered 35-255Z 67342 which was only ever allocated to English sheds when I model a location in Scotland.  I decided that the email was a scam, and that clicking the "Pay Now" link would most likely take me to Russian or Nigerian website. So I ignored it.

This morning, I got a repeat email, which would be unusual for scammers.  After much research, I discovered that I had pre-ordered 35-258Z 67327 back in 2020, which according to the TMC PR ran on the Banff line, although I have no evidence of that.  I do now recall that 35-258Z was cancelled as many ScR RTR announcements are, but somehow my order has transmogrified to 35-255Z.  I don't recall being asked whether I would accept a substitute, so I find this change unethical.

I will continue to ignore the emails.

    Hi there,

This is strange because when 35-257Z & 35-258Z were cancelled in November 2020 everybody who had ordered one was sent an e-mail informing them of the cancellation and advised that their order was cancelled but if they had any of the models  that were being produced on order that part of the order would remain. Those customers affected were also offered the chance to switch to another model. It is possible that there has been an admin error but we will check that out.

Either way cancelling a pre-order isn't an issue as there is no deposit. Hopefully we should be able to track this 'order' down tomorrow and deal with so that you don't keep getting e-mails.

Just an observation, on the NER liveries, the dome on the production models do not match in colour to the boiler. The original samples did match.

As the boss was the nearest to the warehouse we got him up early this morning to check the stock. He confirms that they are exactly the same colour, but because we got him up early is now very grumpy so we are keeping a low profile.

If you have a model you are not happy with contact the office tomorrow and they will sort something out for you.

  17. The wait is nearly over, a very small consignment was sent by air last month and all is good, in fact all is very good in our opinion!

As advised a few weeks back they are arriving on two containers so we anticipate that the first batch will land in our warehouse in last week of June and then we will commence despatch of pre-orders. As soon as we know they are on the way to us we will start requesting payment. As they are arriving in two batches, and the second isn’t expected to be with us until mid July, if a pre-order includes models in both batches a payment request will be made for each batch but a customer can opt to delay until the order is complete. Please note that pre-orders made through the website will be sent post free in line with our current offer of website orders over £100 being post free, so if you have for example two locos on order, one from each batch, both will be sent post free.

The models arriving in the first batch are:-

35-250Z  NER Lined Green no 2093 with Westinghouse Pump, Coal Rail Bunker and Ramsbottom Safety Valve [Smokebox door handles]

35-251Z  NER Lined Green no 1759 with Westinghouse Pump, Coal Rail Bunker and Ramsbottom Safety Valve [Smokebox door wheel]

35-252Z/ZSF LNER Lined Black no 1752 with Westinghouse Pump, Cage Bunker and Ramsbottom Safety Valve [Smokebox door wheel]

35-253Z/ZSF LNER Lined Black no 2082 with Push/Pull apparatus, Cage Bunker and Ross Pop Safety Valve [Smokebox door handles]

35-254Z   BR Early Crest Lined Black no 67263 with Cage Bunker and Ross Pop Safety Valve

35-255Z/ZSF BR Early Crest Lined Black no 67342 with Westinghouse Pump, Hopper Bunker and Ross Pop Safety Valve

35-256ZSF BR Early Crest Lined Black no 67282 with Push/Pull apparatus, Hopper Bunker and Ross Pop Safety Valve

The remaining models 35-250ZSF, 35-251ZSF, 35-254ZSF and 35-256Z are expected mid July along with:-

35-259Z/ZSF BR Late Crest no 67261 with Push/Pull apparatus, Cage Bunker and Ross Pop Safety Valve

TMC will donate £15 for each sale of 35-251Z to  G5 Locomotive Company to assist with the new build.

Our usual weathering and other customisation services will be available, full details on our website.

A few photographs of the production models will follow shortly.

  18. We have more news! Albeit a little bit later than planned the first container is on its way, but its contents are different to what we originally thought [fun this isn't it!]. The second container is likely to be a few weeks behind so our best guestimate of when we are likely to be sending these models out is now as follows:-

    35-250Z Late June; 35-250ZSF Mid July; 35-251Z Late June; 35-251ZSF Mid July; 35-252Z Late June; 35-252ZSF Late June; 35-253Z Late June;

    35-253ZSF Late June; 35-254Z Late June; 35-254ZSF Mid July; 35-255Z Late June; 35-255ZSF Late June; 35-256Z Mid July; 35-256ZSF Last June;

35-259Z Mid July; 35-259ZSF Mid July.

Invoices and requests for payment on pre-orders will not be sent until we know the goods are in Bachmann's warehouse for onward despatch to ourselves.

All versions are still available, though from pre-orders it looks like some are somewhat more popular than others.

I have the same "problem" (although I'm sure it's not difficult to get round one way or the other).  I'm also guessing that you want a BR early crest version.  The options are to buy one without hopper or Westinghouse and add a Westinghouse somehow or other (I'm aware a few different ones may be available, but then there's all the fiddly connections etc to sort out), OR, buy one with Westinghouse and hopper and take the hopper off.  I spoke to the TMC guys at Doncaster the other week.  He didn't want to take one out of the display case, but was "pretty sure" that the hopper is a separate moulding (makes sense) and therefore "should" come off fairly easily.  So, I'm going to get the Westinghouse/hopper version and see what happens.

You may also want to note that the two options mentioned have different buffers (one LNER, one NER) so you may want/need to take that into account as well.

    Cheers.

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

We have been looking at this further and just to be absolutely clear although the hopper is a separate moulding it is glued into position so it doesn't just lift out. Consequently 'should come off fairly easily' might not always be the case.

    Thank you.
