  1. Hi there.

Was wondefing if anybody has had railtec reduce in scale in stock transfers from 4mm/7mm to 2mm. I Would like to finish off some brake vans and the sheet (4mm ref 7310) only seems available in 4/7mm. I am sure there is a reason but i just though i would ask the question.

    Many thanks

    Adam.

    Hello Adam,

Thee sleeves were devised by Alan Smith for use in the Manor brass chassis kit that I prototyped. I have been using the sleeves in all sorts of chassis since and you basically drill the main hole and the countersink section to get the depth. Apart from that I never glued them. They are a little squishy so once tightened up expand a bit and don't  tend to fall out. If you drill a tad oversize a spot of glue is fine but may not be required. They can be used to hold two halves of a chassis together as on th Manor or used to insulate the chassis from the footplate. I have found many uses for these.

Hi Nigel. Thanks for the reply and info. The selves have being added to the chassis last night and seem to do as I intend. No doubt I will find other uses.
    cheers

  3. Hi guys and girls.

hope this question finds you all well

Would like to know if there is a preferred method of attaching the insulated screw sleeves.

I have two in mind. The obvious one is to drill a hole to suit and glue in the sleeve and the second is to drill a hole that is a light press fit and press the sleeve in.
any answers or further ideas on the matter would be much appreciated

    thanks

    Hi Puzzler Guy.

Thank you. I currently have 2 gear hobs I use, both carbide. One came from China via the wish website www.wish.com and the other one came from Russia via ebay.

    Missy.

Hey thanks. I’ll have a look. See what’s what.

    cheers

  5. Hi all

hope these questions find you all well.

I have recently decided to "finish" some Graham Farish Mk1's in a late 1980's early 1990's condition. For me this will involve some weathering  some transfers and the addition of a representation of the associated air tanks, distributors and air brake cylinders of the air brake system. The accompanying pipe work i will leave out to maintain sanity. I do not intend to model individual vehicles but would like to add these bits if i can to compliment the vacuum cylinders and "V" hangers.

The small amount of research i have done so far shows this subject to be quite a minefield. so to aid my task i would like to know if anyone know of any dimensions such as length and diameter of the above mentioned features (air tanks, distributors and air brake cylinders) so i can add these parts to the underframe. I know i may be splitting hairs  but i would like to maintain the proportions of the Graham Farish underframes.

Also any information on the  placement of the air tanks under the coach. As i can work out these were positioned to the right of the coach (as viewed side on) opposite the existing vacuum cylinders. but if anyone has more info it would be appreciated.

sorry if this has being asked before or if i have post this in the wrong section but Any information would be greatly received.

    Many thanks Adam

  6. Hi enterprising.

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes i I have the book (and very good it is) and have being in touch with people at the steam workshop as my intention was to just buy the castings.

I am am waiting for a reply from the suppliers but my expectation is that the castings are no longer available.

So so my next move is to find some external dimensions of the vacuum reservoir. There is a drawing in the mentioned book but all I can see it internal dimensions for machining the cylinder bore.

    Thanks again.

    Adam.

  7. Hi there.

Dose anybody on here know what dimension is being referred to when describing the size of a vacuum cylinder.

I understand that both 18 inch and 21 inch were common on fitted vehicles. But what dose the 18 and 21 refer to. Is it the outside diameter of the vacuum reservoir or dose it refer to some internal dimension such as cylinder diameter.

Any help would would be appreciated

    many thanks

    Adam.

  8. Hi there.

Not sure if this is in the right place but :-

I was wondering if anybody here knows where Brymbo steel works sent the finished steel it produced in the late 1970's early 80's.

I understand that the steel works made steel from scrap at this time and then sent out the "billets" on various vacuum braked steel carrying wagons along a branch line to cross newyedd yard.

Any info would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Adam

  9. Hey.

Just another quick one. Dose anybody know what thread size the crank pin screw is. It is very small. The screw is a good fit for 10 BA so I was thinking maybe an imperial thread.

Just thought I'd need if anyone knows. Or maybe a email to Dapol ?

    Thanks.

    Adam.

  10. Thanks guys for your replys.

Yes Norman I did notice the adhesive after I have sheered a screw. But extremely fortunate for me is there is enough thread for it to still be used. Don't fancy trying to re-tap and turn a replacement item.

So less haste this time on my account.

    Thanks again.

    Adam

  11. Hi there.

Just a quick one and sorry if it has been answered somewhere else but has anybody tried to remove the coupling rods????. If so how did you go about this.

    Thanks

    Adam.

  12. I got this salmon wagon out to make so to brake up making mineral after mineral wagon. But now its nealy done I want some more to go with it.

But could anyone suggest some suitable buffers to finish it. From what I can make out the prototypes had a type of self contained buffer but with a novel head. But I can only find self contained with round heads or some MK1 novel head buffers.

    Any thoughs would be appreacheated
