as far as i know it was converted to electric for the west coast electrification to give drivers experience on electric traction probably when used it hauled empty coaches

If you have a USA Tank an easy conversion. If not pick one up from Kernow/MR and swap the body over. 

 

I did it recently with a SR version to get a BR example.
