Accurascale have said on several occasions that they use more than one factory, so a delay to one model does not necessarily impact delivery of another. Have they said the 66 and 31 are being manufactured in the same factory?

I Never said they did, what I said was simple facts. The website said Q1/Q2/Q3, they have since removed Q1. Leaving a six month time frame. Now for whatever reason they originally started 3 quarters it doesn’t matter and would still be on time even if it turns up in September. So there’s no reason to say anything unless the delivery doesn’t meet their deadline.

Seems like they are indeed to be delivered Q2 2024.

Well all they’ve done is take out the Q1 from the website from what I can see. Has it says Q2,Q3 now,it could be anytime between today and end of September. Which is 6 months. Someone from Accurascale did say watch out for an update about the 31s at the end of this week. can’t remember if it was on one of the topics on this site or FB. But nothing has been mentioned from what I can find.
Could get interesting by the end of the month if the 31s are not on a big boat by then or beginning of may. Has the Bachmann ones will be in the race to see who’s arrive first.

With decent power and traction please!!  Hornby one can't pull the skin off a rice pudding!!  Mine has added weight as well.

    Al.

My moneys on Hornby’s with the 8f, the princess Coronation and Royal both done with the  black 5 on the way. 8f has to be next unless they go for the Stanier rebuilds first. Which are still good models but, could be improved on. Possibly to decrease the production costs which might increase sales. Both models could do with a bit more weight if space permits.

    Hi Tom,

We may have been having a most epic internal argument about the viability of doing it. Some are for, some are not sure. We'll see where we end up with it!

If more people lend a voice to the "for" cause here then it might help win the argument....

    Cheers!

    Fran

Being a harden LMS modeller. I’d be interested in how big a discount you would apply to get rid of them.

2 for the price of one would compensate for time taken to do a full repaint.

You can download the Lokprogrammer software at ESU. You do not need a Lokprogrammer to do this.

After the download and installation, search the ESU library for the file that is loaded to your decoder and download it and open it. There you can see what the programming is and make any changes needed to get your lights working in forward mode.

Under the 'Tools' tab, select 'See CVs Changed', you can see a summary of CV changes that were made and use that list to make the CV changes with your controller.

This is all a lot easier with a Lokprogrammer, and I've done it myself before buying one, but it is possible without one.

I’ll give that a go and see how I get on. Thank you for the suggestion

  6. I have a R3674 class 31 D5579 in golden Ochre runs fine sound great however the  lights in one direction are not working. In reverse it has the red tail lights and white side lights working fine but when travelling forward (end with the fan) neither front or rear lights work. I have put a 8 pin blanking plate in and all lights work as they should.

Is it possible there’s a CV that needs adjusting (and which one please) or is it more likely to be a  fault? On the decoder now? Definitely out of warranty if so. Any help much appreciate.

  7. Well it’s seems to have been eons since I payed for her, and to be honest I was thinking it was part of the second batch. But today I had a parcel delivered from Accurascale. 37 609 has arrived. Now sitting in front of me with her stable mate 37 607. Yeah I’m impressed all over again the livery is out-siding. Some tiny little differences between the two sure I’ll find a few more in time. She just needs a sound decoder now a light weathering and she can be put to work with her sister on the nuclear wagons.

    very happy

waiting not so patiently for 258 to arrive now. Could we have some more rail freight in the 3rd batch please.

Intrigued!  Could it be magnetic damping?

With the right wheel metal, as the wheel rotates, a nearby neodymium magnet might provide enough drag to very lightly pull on the inter-vehicle couplings. This would be through Eddy currents, not direct magnetic attraction, hence the 'right wheel metal' is required.

At standstill, the drag is zero but as the wheel starts to rotate a subtle drag is provided, enough perhaps to keep couplings in extension?  The drag would increase with train speed, so subtle stuttering of the loco at speed might be cancelled out.

    Once an engineer...

No, they have their own a class 50 coming.

Below Hornby's minimum number of wheels? 😉

The LNER P1 has enough wheels but is it shiny enough.

The Jubilee is a good candidate but would Bachmann also realise this and be working on a new model, same as the 8f in Hornby’s case.
The humble Jinty could be upgraded Hornby’s model must be close to 50 years old and Bachmann’s is knocking on now and is lacking the in some detail.

Has im concentrating on 1980/90s for now at least. A class 86 would be good,

  10. Well I was wondering would it be in bad taste to ask for class 31 601 In pink?

I’ve always liked the livery I don’t know why, I was put on a course of antibiotics, but they didn’t work, I still like the pink.

I had thought about which manufacturer I’d like to see do this livery, I think I would be happier with the Bachmanns deluxe edition personally.

  11. Ok I just received my BR MK2b ex fk 19486 very nice model. Comes with a wand unlike the nuclear wagon I got. Gave it a wave with the wand nothing , opened it up thinking needs batteries like the nuclear wagons did. Seems there’s two fitted. So the question is where do you wave it over incase I missed it? Top sides end none seem to work. The batteries might be dead but the soldering is very suspect to snapping! And should the copper prongs be hovering over the second set of pads under the false ceiling?

No Midlands-based retailer seems to have commissioned such a deceit ......... might that suggest that they've been advised to wait for the real thing ??!?

Didn’t Hornby do some, and if near enough is good enough then Hornby’s near enough should be good enough.
I’d rather wait to see some correct MR, LMS or even L&YR stock for that matter.

Not to mention Accurascale being known for making their rolling stock to the same high level of detail has their locomotives. Why on earth would they suddenly drop the standards of models all because it’s LMS! That’s the type of thing Hornby would do and then get it in the neck. Personally I think poor Fran gets enough to reply to with out having to try justify it’s only LMS

They weren't taken over but the apocalypse to which you refer was around 11/12 years ago now when the Chinese government mandated businesses to increase their labour rates (akin to minimum wage in the RoW) which involved a reassessment within Kader of the labour apportioned to each division and products as, evidentially, Bachmann Europe as a subsidiary weren't being charged for all of the elements involved in the cost make-up leading to what was perceived as significant increases. As an example, some products from before that time such as the autoballasters then became unviable to accurately price given the retail distribution model.

Cheers sorry I slept since then, only 11/ 12 years ago. Seems longer.

Nice to see the Mk1s back, but shame the release is so limited (TSO and BSK only, basically mirroring the long-announced WCRC run). Will be interesting to see if the pickup-fitted bogies are released as spares as that would be useful for a few projects I have in mind.

I really don't understand the price of these coaches. The core tooling costs are long paid off. When released in 1999 these were around £21 I believe (give or take). With inflation, this should be around £38.50 today. Instead the RRP is 59.99, reprasenting a 'Bachflation' of 55% above real inflation accounted price. If we allow for a 15% retailer discount, that still gives a 32% 'Bachflation'.

Now I'm normally critical of those whinging on about price rises (e.g. S** T***** on Youtube) as they seldom account for real Bank of England Inflation in their assessment. However my calculations do account for this. Yes there are increased costs in China and some raw materials, but a good chunk of that that will already be factored in to the assessment of Bank of England inflation (allowing for the fact that total UK inflation is a mix of internal and external factors, while Bachmann's costs are primarily external). I would expect to see some skew above real inflation, but by 55%????!!!!!

I do feel that the model is not worth the RRP. Especially when Hornby and others are producing coaches with separately fitted door handles, roof vents etc for a similar price. Not that the Bachmann Mk1 would be significantly lifted if these features were present; while moulded they really do look the part assuming the factory have got the lining around them properly printed.

Well you picked the prices of the models before Bachmann was taken over. After this it was found that many of the models were being produced at a loss! There was a period where the prices doubled over just a few years. The the early 2000s I believe. It is documented on this site somewhere. The moaning was about the prices people saying it was the end of the hobby the apocalypse had started women and children screaming in the street men crying on the steps, unable to afford the basics on the hobby. Andy York fed up with telling people to shut up. It was awful, man My eyes welled up and everything it was terrible man, you don’t know you weren’t there!

So you really need to add say £20 to your starting price. Oh, and Batman coaches are simply better.

has for the tooling costs well if you keep the tooling cost in with the price it rises money for a replacement tooling when it wears out, plus extra tooling for new models in the future with out hitting the pure profits made so hard.

  15. Well I have the Hornby super detailed golden Orchid 31.

a Accurascale 31 Dutch livery on order, so might has well go the full hog, one Bachmann 31 rail fright red stripe ordered. £305. 95 for the sfx model will do nicely.
