  1. The sea is polyfilla with the bow waves topped off with cotton wool. It's painted with artists acrylics and the fine texturing is done with artists paste and gloss gel.

Don't know if you've seen this book - although the kits featured are 1/700, it's packed with modelling techniques and detailed photos for warship modellers.

Thanks for tip. I've not tried cotton wool yet to model spray but I'm going to give it a try. I have the book and it's very good.

    Cheers

  2. Away from railway modelling most of my time is spent building warships in 1/350, 1/600 and 1/700 scale, mostly Royal Navy subjects,

This is the latest project built over 5 weeks during June and July.

I have one of these in my stash waiting to be built when I have both time and space. How did you model the waves? Really nice build by the way!

    Cheers

  3. I recently replaced split gears on a second hand Farish Class 37. Rang BR Lines to order the parts, received from really useful advice on doing the replacement and the parts arrived in a couple of days. The job took just a few minutes and the old 37 is now back up and running.

I'm afraid it's something we just have to deal with!

  4. I am posting this one with a question.  I took this photo in 1975 on a visit to North Wales but I can't remember where it was.  Chances are I took it after visiting the Talyllyn, Ffestiniog or Snowdon Mountain Railways.  Does anybody recognise this spot?

    Looks to me like Penrhyndeudraeth?

  5. Really nice weathering on those grain wagons.

I converted to Lifecolor paints a few years ago. I use several sets for my armour models but I now use a number of their paints and pigments for weathering. Really good quality paints and pigments.

  6. I built a small diorama for photographing models some time back in N and I too paved the platform with individual paving slabs! A bit time consuming but well worth it. It's also the only way to go if you want to depict uneven surfaces for those run-down, back street pavements.

Really enjoying watching the layout develop.

    Cheers

  7. have you tried warming the platform edges in hot water to introduce some pre-bend before fixing the layout? I've used this technique to take some of the stresses out of plastic sheet when making curved walls or corrugated iron roofs.

  8. Over the years I've built all sorts of models, dabbled in R/C aircraft (mainly gliders), scale non-sailing yachts and woodwork but usually come back to N gauge.

Here are some of what I've built recently.
