  1. I’ve got two locos on order large logo and br blue, £1200 is a fair bit of cash so if one doesn’t do it for me I’ll have to dump it, down to personal pref I suppose. There’s a lot of distraction on the large logo and I agree it captures the bulk and hides most things I’m not too happy with. I agree not to read too much into the pre orders but you don’t get much chance to see the real locos until they drop through the door and it’s too late then. The 56 will be a sell out in some liveries so it’s a bit of a gamble, sods lawbr blue will look ok but I’ll have to make the call at some point, guess it’s my money. Would love a Romanian front end in br blue but doubt it’ll happen.
  2. The large logo looks more believable than the br blue, that just looks odd to me.
  3. Got my banger blue 40155 this morning. My heart missed a beat when I saw weathered written on the box, not to worry it isn’t. Overall a good looking model it’s a right lump and weigh a ton. Only issue is the head code glass is a bit rough at the edges and the dots look a bit wonky but these are easy fixes so will sort out tomorrow. I know the 40 has issues with body shape etc but it’s not really worth building a kit for just a pity the 47 isn’t looking as good, Heljan can do a good job when they set their minds to it. I think these will sell out quickly!
  4. Agree with all of the above too, the front end looks wrong too the horizontal handrail is too far down which pushes the route indicator box further down. I have one on order with Hattons but I’m sorry there is just too much to bug me with this so it’s a no. MM1 models for me if I do one even with the price I would rather it looks like a 47 even if the build price will be more. Would have expected better.
  5. Quality video thank you, and here’s me ditching spotting when the Deltics went. Just goes to show how interesting things got when I resurrected my interest in trains with a Lima Class 87 in 1988, then the excitement when Hornby announced their first go at a Class 91.
  6. Thanks for that, I did find last night a DVT in intercity livery attached to a blue grey rake of mk3’s, I couldn’t see what was on the other end though. Hoping Rails of Sheffield do 89001. Hats off to Hornby for the DVT Class 43 though...
  7. Ordered the Intercity liveried Class 91, and Class 43 DVT, does anyone know of any coach rakes to go in between. It’s great Hornby have done the DVT always thought it looked quirky.
  8. Nice job, remember this one in the catalogue in 1978 when I was a kid, still has bags of charm to it.
  9. I stand on that very platform every morning, I can remember the Deltics there too, the two centre roads went mid 80’s.
  10. Beautiful layout photo. Well done KR models the colours look spot on.
  11. Looking forward to 2022, Mike Cook would never have believed it though, who would for that matter!
  12. What a Great story of your fathers, written material on GT3 is so rare, I remember an article in one of the first Rail Enthusiast mags in 1981 and I was captivated. Imagine where those artifacts went maybe sat in someone’s shed not knowing their significance. Looks a cracking model.
  13. I missed out on the first issue but had a nice email about the second release order book end of March. Looks a great model so pleased they made it happen. I just had my jab this morning to but all I got was a creme egg for being a brave boy lol...
  14. Yep me too panic bought Ballymoss tonight it does look nice. Now I’ve got 55011 and 55002 1980 stylie and 55018. Now I hadn’t realised I had paid for 55011 in full nearly 2 years ago so with that surprise there is one more maybe if they aren’t due until September. But which one!!
  15. Really interesting stuff there. Another cold war use was to power communication aerials beneath ground / water level to a level above ground / water level (clue there) in order to send comms to the RN Polaris fleet. Location not disclosed! Not sure if these were 18 or 9 cylinder units likely 18 though.
  16. 9009 wasn’t zapped by the overhead power it was an internal fault and a massively expensive one at that.
  17. I completely agree with you, I just feel sort of sorry they missed my time. There are a couple of exceptions and I do love the sound of 68’s.
  18. I might be getting old but on my way home yesterday through York station all I could see were Azumas, I thought what a soul less railway we have now. How lucky we were to have lived through the Deltics and banger blue diesels we just didn’t know so at the time.
  19. Hold on while were at it seeing as the Deltics sell well why not a definitive correct body shape and grilles production Deltic.
  20. Yes yes and yes I second that also KESTREL in big capitals to get Ben’s attention.........
  21. An unexpected day as well without social media it was only luck we found out about it and I must try and find out how we knew, probably a snipet in the local press a few days before. I remember walking through 55005’s engine room and it was completely empty no engines or boiler or nothing. 55005 was kept from scrap until the end of BR service in case 55002 was damaged beyond repair I seem to recall.
  22. 39 years ago this morning the old fella and myself set off for Doncaster Works on a DMU from York via Selby to see the last Deltics lined up at the Plant. What a magic day imprinted on my memory! Can anyone remember the DPS racehorse appeal which eventually got enough cash to buy 55009. Many of the above have vanished, the York to Selby line, the DMU, the Plant and most of the Deltics.
