  1. I’ve got two locos on order large logo and br blue, £1200 is a fair bit of cash so if one doesn’t do it for me I’ll have to dump it, down to personal pref I suppose. There’s a lot of distraction on the large logo and I agree it captures the bulk and hides most things I’m not too happy with. I agree not to read too much into the pre orders but you don’t get much chance to see the real locos until they drop through the door and it’s too late then. The 56 will be a sell out in some liveries so it’s a bit of a gamble, sods lawbr blue will look ok but I’ll have to make the call at some point, guess it’s my money. Would love a Romanian front end in br blue but doubt it’ll happen.

  2. Got my banger blue 40155 this morning. My heart missed a beat when I saw weathered written on the box, not to worry it isn’t. Overall a good looking model it’s a right lump and weigh a ton. Only issue is the head code glass is a bit rough at the edges and the dots look a bit wonky but these are easy fixes so will sort out tomorrow. I know the 40 has issues with body shape etc but it’s not really worth building a kit for just a pity the 47 isn’t looking as good, Heljan can do a good job when they set their minds to it. I think these will sell out quickly!

  3. Agree with all of the above too, the front end looks wrong too the horizontal handrail is too far down which pushes the route indicator box further down. I have one on order with Hattons but I’m sorry there is just too much to bug me with this so it’s a no. MM1 models for me if I do one even with the price I would rather it looks like a 47 even if the build price will be more. Would have expected better.

    Hallo

At approx 5m05 and at 6m50. The set at 5m05 has the 91 running blunt end first.

Note the TGS, they were HST stock

Quality video thank you, and here’s me ditching spotting when the Deltics went. Just goes to show how interesting things got when I resurrected my interest in trains with a Lima Class 87 in 1988, then the excitement when Hornby announced their first go at a Class 91.

A rake of Intercity liveried Mk3s - the 91s worked with Mk3s and ex-HST power car DVTs as the Mk4 rakes weren't ready...

Thanks for that, I did find last night a DVT in intercity livery attached to a blue grey rake of mk3’s, I couldn’t see what was on the other end though. Hoping Rails of Sheffield do 89001. Hats off to Hornby for the DVT Class 43 though...

GT3's made another northbound run through Mantles Wood, this time with detailing bits added.  Sadly the old biddies seem more interested in discussing Mrs Dale's Diary than the white heat of technology.

The detailing pack includes 2 brown 'closed discs' so you can make any headcode combination.  I liked the fact they have 'plugs' behind them - so much easier to fix than some other recent hi-fidelity models which defeat my old eyes a bit when it comes to changing headcodes.  One of the 6 hub cabs seemed more recalcitrant than the others for no obvious reason.  I've use tacky wax for now and would be interested to hear other rmwebbers solutions.  POSSIBLY it might be worth KRModels doing spare packs for sale?

The handrails on my one didn't go into the buffer beam.  I've cured the lhs but still need to do the rhs.  Oh, and I've turned the buffers horizontal which I didn't notice in the earlier pics until too late.

Beautiful layout photo. Well done KR models the colours look spot on.

only minor oops is that handrail needs reseating.

Would you believe it was 55 years 1 month exactly since GT3 was sent to Wards.

My father, was employed by TW wards of Salford, he procured GT3 from EE, shared knowledge of its scrapping amongst Buckley Wells Railway Enthusiasts ( who had 2000 members around this time), and arranged Wards of Salford to open their yard for enthusiasts to come see on saturday after it arrived. Prior to this he removed various plates, discs, cab parts etc and they were given away free to those who wanted souvenirs, including carpet and curtains.

so probably we are probably to within 55 years and few days or so since it wouldn't have existed.

somewhere I have a disc from GT3, and some Wards paperwork, though Ive not seem it in decades otherwise would have shared before now. Unfortunately my father passed away in 2017, but he had a good of story about the scrapping of gt3, he was in an interesting place of trying to preserve a few locos, run an enthusiasts group, and scrap locos at the same time... Wards didnt scrap many, but a few were set aside, at least 1 is still here as a result, but he always regretted not finding sufficient interest in some standard 3MTs at Patricroft.

very glad this model has been done, its a bit personal for me.

    well done.

Great story of your fathers, written material on GT3 is so rare, I remember an article in one of the first Rail Enthusiast mags in 1981 and I was captivated. Imagine where those artifacts went maybe sat in someone’s shed not knowing their significance. Looks a cracking model.

Mine just arrived - Chocolate Zephyr!

So pleased - thank you so much KR for making this model and the others in the pipeline too.

What a good day as had only just got back from my COVID inoculation!

Hoping the third good thing comes too!  :victory:

I missed out on the first issue but had a nice email about the second release order book end of March. Looks a great model so pleased they made it happen. I just had my jab this morning to but all I got was a creme egg for being a brave boy lol...

Have pre-ordered a tops blue version with sound, and I'm looking forward to its arrival in due course. However, my bank account is swearing at me as it's also having to deal with an SLW 25/3 with sound. Fortunately I'm not interested in the 'current' 37s as I need tops blue 37/0 and revised standard 37/4 versions. However a Manor may yet be looked at (for a different era, natch).

Don’t they do 37001 in br blue

Well, I've gone and panic bought a Ballymoss. The Finsbury Park look was one of my favourites.

Yep me too panic bought Ballymoss tonight it does look nice. Now I’ve got 55011 and 55002 1980 stylie and 55018. Now I hadn’t realised I had paid for 55011 in full nearly 2 years ago so with that surprise there is one more maybe if they aren’t due until September. But which one!!

They were also used as Generators in RSGs during the Cold War period - that’s the Regional Seats of Government. Certainly the case at RGHQ 6.1 near Crowborough...

Really interesting stuff there. Another cold war use was to power communication aerials beneath ground / water level to a level above ground / water level (clue there) in order to send comms to the RN Polaris fleet. Location not disclosed! Not sure if these were 18 or 9 cylinder units likely 18 though.

My era is the 'current' era too - I was not around for any of the British Rail era at all, being born in 1996. The Deltics I have on order are preserved examples (KOYLI, Alycidon) so I don't share the same nostalgia as others.

My nostalgia is rather more recent with the HST's and the steady drain of the class 91 fleet, so my railway is going to be Doncaster circa 2019, with the occasional Deltic or A4 hauled tour.

This said, with KOYLI withdrawn for good and Alycidon still under repair from being zapped by the overheads, I am feeling their loss too, with a certain amount of nostalgia!

    Cheers,

       60800

9009 wasn’t zapped by the overhead power it was an internal fault and a massively expensive one at that.

Definitely sad but would have been a lot sadder without the likes of DPS etc

An unexpected day as well without social media it was only luck we found out about it and I must try and find out how we knew, probably a snipet in the local press a few days before. I remember walking through 55005’s engine room and it was completely empty no engines or boiler or nothing. 55005 was kept from scrap until the end of BR service in case 55002 was damaged beyond repair I seem to recall.

  15. 39 years ago this morning the old fella and myself set off for Doncaster Works on a DMU from York via Selby to see the last Deltics lined up at the Plant. What a magic day imprinted on my memory! Can anyone remember the DPS racehorse appeal which eventually got enough cash to buy 55009. Many of the above have vanished, the York to Selby line, the DMU, the Plant and most of the Deltics.
