The website now says “This account is suspended”
Looks like RIP Gnatterbox - a shame as there was a lot of inspirational modelling on the site.

The heavy rains in northern India have cut the cart road and the DHR again. I hope the railway can survive the shutdown since March and now this.

Have a look at the late Raymond Walleys website. Under pdf tab is advice on resistance soldering - I found this a great help when I started.

Hi Dava, how much is there on the construction of the railcars supplied to the LNER? Most books cover allocation etc but theres very little out there on how they were built.
Thanks

Many thanks Compound2632 for the comprehensive answer. This was for a friend John who enjoys making one off large scale models of unusual wagons.
I see if the midland centre offers a cooy/scan service.

Not at all. I enjoyed the story and now I'm better informed. Several of the scenes activated the "modelling gene"

My knowledge isnt that good and it caught me on the hop. It looked like a 232t maybe ex prussian? This really isnt my area - I posted in case it was of interest to others.

Just watching this 1954 film on "talking pictures" Alex Guiness as Father Brown Some very atmospheric shots of a French local train at about 1hr - 3 axle coaches and 2 axle van. Also some nice period views of countryside and village.

Does anyone know who now owns the RAS photograph archive? I would love to have a couple of their photographs to frame and put on my study wall.

Hi Pete,
There's many methods of doing teak finishes and it's down to you to find the method that works for you. I tried all sorts of things I'd seen in the mags and wasn't happy with any of them. So I decided to try artists' colours.
I found a mix of yellow ochre and golden ochre (60/40) acrylic made a great base coat, with a mix of raw and burnt sienna (75/25) on top after using a brown pencil to add some character. Both coats were grained with the brush. I then sealed and finished it with Ronseal quick drying teak varnish. I was happy with that but became dissatisfied with the thick paint. If you thin it you don't get the coverage. Oil paints are great but take too long to dry.
I was pointed at Winsor and Newton Alkyd oil paint which gives a lovely thin coat which can be dragged with the brush. You can't get golden ochre but yellow ochre works fine. Each coat dries overnight.
Attached pic of a 7mm carriage done using this method. My journey has taken years! Good luck

Hi Vernon
Do you now use Alkyd paints for all layers or are they grained on top of acrylic?

Dear All
Could anyone tell me the type of coaches that made up the mid 30’s “Garden Cities and Cambridge Buffet Express”
I’ve seen photos of the GNR open 3rd converted into the buffet but what would go either side.
I’m after a likely 5 coach train rather than the original 3 coach or the later longer trains
Many thanks

Looks really good. Which tutorials would you recommend for a complete beginner?
Would you rescale the bench ends to 10mm/ft? My order would go in immediately!

The valve gears on each end worked in opposition, i.e. when the leading engine was in forward gear the other end was in backward gear. The photos seem to show bothe engines in back gear.
So if you intend to run in both directions it will be half right all the time, rather than all right or all wrong!

Still waiting for mine 12 days after it appeared on the shelves of WHS.
This seems to happen regularly - do they post alphabetically one at a time?
