I've fitted a few loco's with Ultrascale wheels in the past. None have grooves for tyres.

I cut the base off then drill a hole where i want the tree and glue it in.

This is a good point. I think blue/grey is one of the more difficult liveries to paint. That thin white line with the curved corners..... It's why I have a Southern Pride blue/grey 4-Cig kit waiting to be built, and the MJT sided 4-Cig will be painted in green. And also why my scratchbuilt/kitbashed 3-TC is plain blue.
Modelmaster did do the white line to use on Blue/grey coaches . With the curved corners. I still have a spare set . They may still stock them.

Stage 1 complete - picked up a(nother) (boxed) Bachmann 4-CEP off eBay for only £8 more BIN/offer than I bid on an unboxed version! Very pleased at well under £150!!
Now to order the etched coach sides!!
HOURS OF FUN!
I can remember when we got them for £89.00 brand new from hattons. Those where the day's not like now £400 plus for a 4 car unit.

Had the same problem with a Bachmann 08. In the end i took a little off the platform edge. As it just rubbed on the platform ramp.

The Ultrascale wheels are isolated on both wheels. Plastic inserts . Got 4 sets 2 years ago . So you will need to add new pick up's and rewire to the motor.
-
Yes you need a back to back. Thats the easy part you will need to fit new pick up's. As you carn't use the old Lima one's. The Ultrascale wheels don't allow you

Today Chiltern class 68's have been withdrawn from service. Cracks found on the ETS mountings.

Working fine here no problems.

At my local model club in the past we have used Sandtex Masonery paint. We used there test pots as you don't need a lot.

I spoke to Charlie when i orderd the kit. He told me to use Plastic pipe weld . I did try slaters Mekpac on the bogies they fell apart.
-
EMA Plastic weld will not work on DC kits. The best glue i found to use was evo stick plastic Pipe weld.

i keep to one era that way you can keep the cost down. Plus i like some of the old Lima diesels. I try to bye models that don't work and replace the motors with a CD drive,
