I was pleased to see The Sidings in person at Model Rail Scotland this weekend, so much detail crammed into such a small layout! Was great to see the 68 on the move too!

Which sound does this one use?

Apologies if this has been raised or mentioned before folks.
I have seen this newer style of OHLE masts appearing in various places, the example I have here is between Glasgow and Edinburgh (apologies for the Street view screenshot).
Is this replacing older OHLE or is it for newer projects?
Cheers, James

Is Newbryford headed to anywhere near Scotland for its tour, not seen it in person yet!

Cheers Mick, I see an airbrush being a good investment soon!

Hi folks,
Currently in the middle of an Airfix BSO to DBSO conversion and I am attempting to model DRS's 9705. Does anyone know where I can source the DRS 'Oxford Blue' in a rattle can? I use Plastikote or Halfords paint for my other models however no one seems to offer an option that's not too expensive for a tin of spray paint.
Any advice would be great!
Cheers,
James

Looks great so far!
I'm hoping to have a crack at my own DBSO conversion soon, just need to get the kit for it from PH Designs! How difficult was the conversion to do?

Love the look of this layout! Who's overhead wires have you used? They really look the part!

Love this layout and seeing the progress is great!
I see right at the bgining you mention cutting cork for the track underlay. What is the purpose of the underlay of the track? Looking to do something similar on my new layout.
Cheers,
James

Hi,
No I just used the common method. Sprinkled the ballast over the tracks then used a soft paint brush to even it out between the tracks. I then used a very small brush to remove ballast from the sleeper tops and neaten up the edges. Sprayed it all over with water and a drop of washing up liquid then soaked it in a watered down pva mix.
Thanks for that advice! When you say you sprayed then soaked in PVA, does that affect the rails at all? What is the purpose of spraying it all then soaking with the PVA mix?
Cheers,
James

I have to say, I love the look of this layout so far! I will certainly be using your technique to ballast. Did you use any special equipment to ballast or just position it hen watered down PVA glue?
Look forward to seeing your progress!

What's happened with Mentor? I can see another model coming, I have pretty much finished my model of how it...well...was.

Looking good Mick, hoping to start my RTOV soon! 1256 is proving more difficult than I thought.... What do you use for stripping the paint off your models?

Is that new SGT coach to replace 975081 that was in there, was it "Hermes" at one stage?
James
-
It's reassuring to see the "years of practice" I have to say!
-
Ah well, I may as well finish my model of 975091 as it's nearing completion, I could always do another if it has changed a lot

They're changing mentor? I am just adding the details to mine, how it was last time I saw it. Any idea happening to it?

I have followed this with interest, and I have to say, it's is a fantastic layout you have created Dave. I will be using as many of these techniques as I can on my layout!
Keep up the good work!

From that photo, it definitely doesn't look N gauge! Great work!

Hi mason,
Just a quick wee question, where did you get your fence that you can see in the first photo?
Thanks, James

I read somewhere they are for test coaches to replace 37s. I could be wrong however!
