Hi mate,
I'd use loco drive now I have an excellent coreless motor available to me, with a huge speaker space in the tender.
Cheers
Dave
So the chuff chuf comes from the back of the loco then tender drive and smoke unit in loco with speaker would be better.
So, can we take it that's a clue that the first tender loco will be either a Beyer Garratt or a GNR Sturrock 0-6-0 with a steam tender.

At a more mundane level, the local blackbird seems to be getting very good at singing the tune to "Happy birthday to you". Only another 2 months for him to perfect it then...

I am always puzzled that Notts and Derbys are called the East Midlands too. Where does the North Midlands start then?
Officially, they seem to be in both

Keeping a model railway up to date will always be a challenge.
I am amazed that Royal Mail have not already come up with a trendy new corporate image, for example. Chiltern might get a new franchise holder in 2022. New trains, new liveries on old trains, new road vehicles all keep up the pressure!
Sticking to a particular date that you already have good information about seems a very sound idea to me.

Sounds like the extra length would be very beneficial. I would go for it!

Waiter, there's a fly in my soup.
But Sir, as demand is very erratic the chef has to make it on the fly!

Hi, Mine are being done in association with Scale 148 to 9i standards - approximately 0.93mm flangways. We are waiting for test sample for approval and check the dims are correct.
Are these gauges to the above standard still, or have you tightened things up a bit, please?

The old Mansfield Railway runs very close to me too - but nearer the southern end, where hardly anything is still recognisable as an old railway line.
We are very lucky around Mansfield and Ashfield to have so many old railway lines preserved through conversion into footpaths - plus historic traces of the Mansfield & Pinxton and a few early waggonways.

There is some very interesting trackwork on both images. Definitely not Peco-friendly!
The north end would make a great layout layout on its own.

It's a great project and I wish you every success with it. But looking at that Templot pic, I have a concern. One side you have a high retaining wall. Other side you have massively long station buildings and canopies. Are you actually going to be able to see the trains?
This is a common problem with large stations. It hasn't stopped people modelling the likes of Birmingham New St, Liverpool Lime Street et al. though. Personally I think it adds a touch of mystery and intrigue to the layout which actually adds to the interest.

Men are getting very concerned about the demise of traditional male underwear. They have formed a new protest organisation -
- the Why Front.

Nice idea, but you don't say what scale.

The depot at the top of the hill on the Matlock cable tramway is still in existence.

Wow, that does seem a bit on the generous side.
I am not familiar with Scale 148 standards, but PeteDavey's 0.85mm sounds much better to me. That is close to the experimental point I built a few weeks ago. Everything I had ran through that fine, though I only have recently produced stock..

Hi Pete
That is a shame as I have got mine into production getting a test cut done ready for approval, due this week. Good luck with this project.
What standards are you using for the check rail clearance please?

OK. Today, Google Images is not my friend...
I've been steadily amassing as many pictures as I can find of Waddon Marsh station*, and the nearby power station, as well as images and drawings of the other stations on the line, but I am really struggling to find any decent images of the Croydon gas holders, cooling towers and gasworks, not just the power station. To date, Google Images, disused-stations.org etc etc have been really useful but not for shots of the gasworks...
Is anyone aware of a link to any images of these?
Also, does anyone know (roughly) when the wooden platform at Waddon Marsh was replaced and the approximate date the signal box was taken out of use?
Any period photos or links to images of (West) Croydon and surrounding area would be most welcome.
Prior to the ubiquitous 2EPB, was it the 2BIL that was a regular on the West Croydon - Wimbledon line?
Many thanks, Pete.
* I've had a long fascination for the place, I grew up just a mile or so away.
Have you seen Page 2 of the Disused Stations site - this does have a few photos http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/w/waddon_marsh/index5.shtml

Caley passenger stock used the Westinghouse brake, so they could only run passenger locos with air or dual braked stock. This must have restricted their use south of the border.

I have just bought a kit (off Ebay) and whilst I am a competent builder of track in N to O gauge I think filing the switch blades is the last thing you should be concerned about. Folk on here moan about threading 4mm chairs. The biggest problem I can see after a quick look is in threading the chairs.
I have not read the instructions yet or opened the packet, I may have to buy one of those anglepoise magnifiers to build it though.
Filing a slight taper on the end of the rail makes a big difference. Also remember to get the bullhead the right way up - the thinner edge goes in the sleepers, the thicker part is the rail top.

I could be horribly wrong, but I thought those cars were made by Tatra in Czechoslovakia - the famous T87?
