  1. It is a bit like the class 73s - the early BR blue livery E6007 - 012 were delivered in is often described as being Electric Blue, but it wasn't, it was an early version of BR blue complete with a grey stripe along the bottom of the bodyside, cab roof and cab window surrounds. E6013 onwards were delivered in this livery, but minus the grey band (I don't know about the cab roofs and window surrounds). About the only '73 carrying anything remotely like Electric blue must surely have been 73004 (or was it '5?) in the light blue livery carried in the early '90s? Sorry, just saying, like, becuase there are a few preserved '73s out there carrying incorrect liveries. I'm sure it would have been the same if there had been more 'Roarers' saved.
  2. I always thought of the whistling as being a stylised electronic version of wind. I have not heard a '450 for ages though, so don't know if it has changed, but I always quite liked the noise.

    Heljan Class 16

Yes that is the sequence I have seen before. Oh how I wish I had been about in those days to see these things.
  4. I'm sure I'll come across them sooner or later, but I doubt I'm missing much anyway. It is interesting (vaguely) that they don't turn up at York much now as I used to always see them there in the station when passing through on trains to/from London. Actually, I doubt I ever saw one any other way! Annnyway, back to the topic

I'll need to look out for it then, thanks.
  6. I was being deliberately silly because if the '156 was described as being 'wishful thinking', then what on earth would the '155 be then in terms of being a Realtrack model? (and not a Hornby). Actually, it is a class I had forgotten all about, seeing as I haven't actually seen one in a very, very long time (I spotted all 7 of them about 100 years ago though). I usually use the Sleeper to London these days, so I am not likely to see any sitting at York or wherever. My mental image of one is still of it in the red and white WYPTE livery!
  7. Well, being right out there, I'll say the class 155 then! Seriously though, there are only a certain number of classes it can be.
  8. What is the livery finish like generally? I say this because the example I saw seemed to be dirty at the ends of the coaches where the body slants inwards on the bottom half of the body on the trailers (if you see what I mean). Also, the blue was not crisp in places. I hope this isn't a common feature as the rest of the model looked good.
  9. By the way, you all of you do realise that the latest edition (October - November) of Modern Locomotives Illustrated magazine is featuring the class 80 - 85? There are plenty of drawings and decent pictures of the real things in it to help aid any modeling projects, even the '80!

There are still some prototypes to go before that can be claimed! A REAL class 70 would be nice (even if only one of the two design versions), I'll admit, and none of those horrific looking diseasal thingimybobbers they have now, which contravene the rules given in TOPS (classes 70- 79 was for DC electrics, NOT for diesels!). You forgot LOADHAUL!! I am led to believe that there are sound recordings of many of the early diesels. Whether a class 16 is included is another matter, but, if all else fails, we can just wait for D8233 to be fired up again! Oh, and for the record, the black and white film of the '16 in Video 125's Diesel And Electric On 35mm does not include the original sound, rather, what you hear is a recording from a more common type (I can't remember off hand currently). A class 21 (was it?) also appears in the same sequence, but yet again, it is not with the original sound IIRC. Many years ago, I came across a model of a class 88 electric loco in BR Blue. It turned out to be someone's idea of a joke using a French loco. Really wish I'd bought it now too, but I was about 10 at the time. That would be amazing beyond words, especially next to Bachmann's class 85, but I can't see it happening just yet. It was said earlier in the thread that they were ran on trial in Scotland, and obviously must have been delivered south from there I'll get me coat, but before I do, just for the record, I'd happily buy one. They were LONG before my time, but I am only too aware what they were, along with all the other loco classes ever dreamed up.
  11. I saw the model yesterday and the patograph just needs a firm (but careful) push to the side to unlock and raise. The Pantograph looked good, white 'fins' and all, but I am no expert. Just one thing, what is the livery finish like generally? I say this because the example I saw seemed to be dirty at the ends of the coaches where the body slants inwards on the bottom half of the body on the trailers (if you see what I mean). Also, the blue was not crisp in places. I hope this isn't a common feature as the rest of the model looked good.
  12. Doh, of course they are! I realised that afterwards
  13. I know, even in half darkness: I just wish there were more films of the BR versions kicking about. Annyway, if I had the money, then I'd bring an Anglik or two back and line them up with the AC Loco group's examples just to annoy the veg! <Evil laugh>.
