  1. Some modellers would do well to study what is going on here. The assisting engine, having come wrong road, has stopped well short of the failed train, and the crews are now in discussion about what will happen next. Unplanned moves invariably require those involved to come to a proper understanding before the move takes place.

     

     

    Before we get too carried away with following the prototype, a cautionary tale. When D27 failed with an engine fire the signalman at Kershopefoot rang through to the Holm. The chief fireman (volunteer) at the Holm had no further information and so set off for Kershopefoot on his bicycle to see whether the fire was serious enough to warrant getting the fire-engine out. By the time he got to Kershopefoot the fire had gone out, which answered his question and James McBain and 60077 were on their way. He had a more leisurely pedal back to the Holm. Love to see 'old dudders' model that incident faithfully. Nevertheless the point is well made about discussion.

  3. APOLOGY.

     

    In posting the comments about the School Train from Newcastleton to Hawick etc earlier last year I failed to acknowledge that the original author was Andrew Bethune. The information also contained an error in that references to the 'fat' bus should in fact refer to the 'fast' bus. so called because it didn't stop en route not because it broke any speed records.

     

    My apologies for these errors and omissions.

There seem to have been some interesting special trains to Otterburn Camp, I think during one of the World Wars which came up the WR to Riccarton, reversed, and were then taken down the Border Counties by a J36, reversed and then hauled by I think a J31 coupled to a D51 with the pair banked by another J31 to Woodburn and Knowesgate. Here the men de-trained and marched to the camp, no doubt wishing all the way that the Narrow Gauge Catcleuch Railway was still in existence. On at least one such occasion three such trains arrived at Riccarton and thus at Reedsmoth within minutes of eact other. All this special working dictated by the weakness of the Tyne Bridge at Hexham.

  5. Not sure what you're looking at Roy, you should have "Messenger" (a little envelope), "Notifications" (little square with a man inside), Your profile (it should say "Roygraham" and have a down arrow on the right), then "Sign Out".

     

    You can also find your personal messenger by clicking the arrow that's next to your profile name and selecting it from the menu.

    My last throw of the dice on this one. I'm not sure about the skew on the piers which appears to rule out Stobs. Is it Lynwood? I'm pretty sure that particular viaduct curves a little.

    Not Lynwood either I'm afraid. It is in fact Bridge 146 'Belses Mill Viaduct'.
