  1. SRman I had just this problem many years ago in Canada trying to get paint for my O gauge models of Liverpool (UK) trams ........... ended up going to a local auto paint supply shop who mixed the required colours for me......I was offered it in either aerosol cans or 1 pint tins for use with my airbrush, along with appropriate thinners they also supplied. Paint supplied at that time was Valspar Suncryl Acrylic Enamel which when thinned and sprayed dried very quickly to a hard gloss finish which has lasted well. Might be worth a try? Alan Burlington, Ontario, Canada
  2. take a look at KW Trams website.......under OO scale a search for "Cardiiff " shows an open top double decker kit..........hope this helps. Alan
  3. There is a chap on EB>>>>> trading as MMFF45 who does a huge range .........I have used his stuff before but his listings don't have a search function so you would have to page through the lot to check on what you need. Don't know whether he will do custom work. Hope this is of some help if other sources aren't. Alan
  4. Have you tried Paul Coles KW Trams ............there appears to be a set shown there for the single ended car.
  5. Just a quick comment re fixing glazing......... I use a product known over here in North America generically as Canopy Glue .............. its a white liquid and looks like ordinary craft PVA glue, but it dries clear. Strength wise it may vary between brands. I know its known in model railway circles (sorry!) in the UK but I don't know any of the trade names there to help you.
  6. Les & Phil ....thank you both for your thoughts ............interestingly, on this model the baseplate, on closer inspection, I found was actually part of the lower deck casting, not a separate piece as per many EFE and other OOC models I have dissected. Painted black that wasn't immediately obvious without closer inspection. Anyway rather than drill through that casting, I decided to apply limited force and leverage using a sharp 1" chisel to a corner joint between the upper and lower deck castings at the rear of the vehicle; thus was able to achieve the desired result without damage to the parts or fingers! Paint stripping in the garage awaits warmer weather. These particular models, which represent vehicles used in Hong Kong, have liberal amounts of printing spread over the glazing, so that will be another challenge.........will carefully try the usual nail varnish remover trick first ..............but again anyone......any other suggestions would be welcome. Alan Toronto (@ -14C tonight)
  7. Anyone know how to get into these..........the usual 2 vertical clamping rods are there but don't appear on the bottom of the baseplate..........is it a matter of brute force needed to separate the upper and lower deck castings? Would appreciate some advice here! Thank you. Alan, Toronto
  8. I too live in Ontario Canada and am a recent subscriber having previously always bought at our local newsagent (Chapters here, equiv. to W.H.Smith in UK) . My August issue arrived this week. My September issue arrived at the end of that month. My copies so far have all been in the new compostable potato starch type wrapping which so far seems to stand up well to the rigors of the journey and the mechanized sorting machines . My major concern is that my copies appear to be bulk shipped by Peco to Sweden !!! from where they are then mailed onward. At least one also appeared to have a German postmark ........... little wonder they take so long. What will happen when Brexit fully hits I shudder to think. Perhaps its time to switch to the electronic version although I have had this in the past and found I preferred the paper copies. Alan Burlington, Ontario
  9. Fodenway…… some follow –up on your query. Liverpool Transport Vol 4 Horne/Maund bottom page 48 and top of page 49………… “… The second (tram) route for conversion was the short cross-city route 3 between Spellow Lane and Dingle which was chosen for early attention…..buses took over on 12th Dec 1948 on an identical route..” Appendix 34 page 239 12.12.48 3 Walton-Dingle trams replaced by buses Appendix 46 LCPT Bus map 1957 shows bus route 3 as still terminating in Dingle Also ref your “Would it have followed the former tram route from the Pierhead”. As far as I can see route 3 was a cross city route via Limestreet and as such I don’t think would have detoured down to the Pierhead. There may have been other services from the Pierhead terminus eg to Garston which may have travelled via Dingle en route, but that would require further detailed research. And as further comment just FYI, Recreation21 offers a 3D printed model of an Overhead Railway carriage available in various scales and Mike Edge had an etched bass kit for one at one time too. Good luck with your project. Xliverpoollad Toronto
  10. If all else fails you could try contacting the following............... Merseyside Transport Trust which is the group restoring and preserving vehicles that operated for Liverpool Corporation/Merseyside PTE. While route data isnt central to their aims members may be able to help. Website is www.mttrust.co.uk............they also have a Facebook presence. Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society ..............no contact details given on their website but their Archivist is Mr. David Taylor, 217 Heath Road South, Weston Village, Runcorn WA7 4LY. Hope this may be of help.

      truffy

Thanks. I’ll bear it in mind.

  12. I am familiar with the recommended ways to dismantle EFE and OOC buses, but now I am facing a new challenge… a Britbus Scania Metropolitan……if anyone who has been down this particular path before can offer some practical advice it would be most welcome. Having removed the two small screws holding the underbody pipework (?) and wheels sets in place, and then lifted out the flat chassis plate, the lower floor /seating plastic casting thus revealed appears to be held in position at the front and rear by clear plastic protrusions from the base of the windscreen and rear window respectively ……. I am very hesitant to try to move these to free the floor unit for fear of breaking them.
  13. Re Mike Harvey's query last Friday. The two Dyson/Roe trailers quote "... entered service in 1942 .... and were withdrawn in 1944 and converted into canteens in 1945, surviving in this form until 1960 ..." ref Liverpool Transport Vol 4 p154
  14. Paul Coles of KW fame has recently taken over part of the ABS range from Adrian and has the Tenshodo adapter plate listed. KW also has many 4w trucks available (ex BEC designs and others) for about half the price of a Tenshodo. Steam Era Models Australia, makers of the Black Beetles still have them shown on their web page; Branchlines used to stock them and maybe still do ......... worth a phone call perhaps ? Just a satisfied customer of all three enterprises ! Hope this helps. Good luck with the traverser. Alan
  15. Hi Roythebus......if you are still interested in selling the Varney Goddess kit I would be interested. However, as an infrequent user I'm not sure how we can communicate privately off RM Web.............please advise. Thanks Xliverpoollad
