I’ve been trying to find out more about trip workings, specifically how the ‘target’ numbers were allocated and what they meant. Target 92 seems to be the code for the trip freight from Llandudno Junction to Holyhead. The Junction was the end of the Speedlink service from Warrington and linked it in with the rest of the Network.
I think by 86 most of the smaller freight destinations in the Chester area had gone, so I may need to add a couple of local workings to justify an additional couple of trip workings each day. It would be nice to justify a couple of wagons that aren’t tanks, opens and vans. Suggestions?
How about a wagon repair depot somewhere nearby? You can then run anything and everything? Return trip working every day with number of wagons decided by a 12 sided dice maybe for some variety?

Volume 10 in the Modelling BR series will shortly be available, this one covering Diesel Depots and other related subjects, such as stabling points. This looks at the development of maintenance facilities since the 1960s, setting out the different approaches taken by the regions and how this influenced their layouts and operation through to today. Also covered are fuelling points and the many ancillary structures found on depots that contribute towards creating a convincing layout. The 116 pages are copiously illustrated to give inspiration as well as featuring modelling projects and layout ideas. As ever, thanks are due to those who contributed, including Terry Bendall, Nick Gurney, Ian Manderson, James Makin, Clive Mortimore and David Ratcliffe.
On sale date is 5th October and it can be pre-ordered now from the Key Publishing website

We have had a thread or two before about cement terminals, I posted a couple of my pictures,
but I can't find them now,
Exeter Central Blue Circle Cement depot. I believe last time I posted this photo the brick building located this
side of the cement silo was identified as the compressor house. Note that the former Fyffes warehouse
on the right hand siding was by then used by Premier Transport, who handled cartage and cranage for Speedlink traffic including Guinness from Park Royal, 17/7/85
cheers
What is the wagon right next to the Premier Transport shed? Is it one of the Accurascale PCA type wagons?

Thankyou very much for the replies, very useful information and Ive forwarded it all on to my friend.

Asking on behalf of a friend who doesn't frequent these boards (or any others to be honest), he is currently in the process of building a large layout based in 1958 Western Region Devon on the mainline from Exeter to Plymouth (he was going to do Newton Abbott until he realised the size of it was a bit too much to try and fit in).
He has a query around the TPO train, having searched everywhere he can think of he is trying to find out what the formation was of a Western Region TPO was in 1958? He believes they ran in fixed rakes so is keen to model as close to the real thing as is possible.
Many thanks in advance for any answers regarding his query.

Do you have a track plan? Im sure there was one at the start but I dont appear to be able to see the pictures from that far back. I like your idea of multiple fiddleyards representing various destinations and the operation side of things that you are doing. Its what I have in mind one day once the house move is sorted.

Marvellous edition, only magazine I buy now.

Hello, just purchased a Bachmann 21 pin chassis off of the auction site we all use at times. Along with that I bought a Bachmann Sir Daniel Gooch body. Now they dont appear to go together, the issue appears to be the little white circuit boards where the cab is, they appear to be about a mm too long and so the body sits on them. They are both genuine Bachmann, are different ranges (ie release dates) not compatible for body swaps? Or am I missing something obvious as a fix? Ta muchly in advance for any advice.

Thanks Doug, i will have to check the newsagents and find a copy or two.
I can sign them and make a profit.🤣🤣🤣
Pete this is one of my favourite layouts on here. I was just wondering does it ever cross your mind to build a new layout though? If you did would it be the same era and location?

Easier to drop Replica under, done this with some Lima as well.
May I ask how hard is it to fit Replica bogies to Lima Mk2b's. Is there anything out of the ordinary to do? Would you have any pics at all of what (if anything) does need to be done? Thanks a lot in advance for any advice.

Yes… unfortunately the track where I’ll need magnets is firmly in place and ballasted. The track being laid and tested is all fiddle yard and a bit of open line.
Still, get yourself a beer and enjoy me trying to fit magnets retrospectively! I do at least know where they need to go.
You considered some small Neodymium magnets between the sleepers? Would save too much butchery and you could hide the magnets with some well placed weathering.

Need help again… as some of you know I’m making a oo model of westbury during the 80s/90s so kind of on topic. Currently working on the station. Anyone know what was in the various offices? Think most of the windows were frosted, but guess I’ll need to make interiors for some. Any responses are much appreciated.
Is there a thread about your modelling of Westbury?

Remember the Electrotren model is only suitable for the Scottish Malt Distillers Polybulk, not the Grainflow one. Those are a different shape.
Those links may be useful?
Cheers
Rick
I just had a look at Paul Bartletts site and I see they are a bit different in profile. Never knew that tbh, I thought it was just the ends, now the question is do I make the ends look right and just accept the body shape wont be spot on? Painted and transfers applied will it be noticeable?

I think they are one of those things where you have to be patient as they don’t come up that often, I seem to recall I got one then had 2 wait about 2 or 3 years to find another then a third came up a few weeks later.
From memory searching eBay with ‘electrotren 56xx’ using the codes above is the best way of flushing them out. Normal descriptions around Electrotren HO, grain, pokybulk etc often seemed to draw blanks.
Silo wagen works as well. If Hornby had any sense they could possibly do well if they reproduced these wagons even unpainted.

I got mine on eBay, from a shop in Germany. It was €25, and €14.80 postage, which works out about £35 all in. Model numbers 5600, 5601, 5602, and 5603 all seem to be the same wagon just in different liveries.
Hope that is of some use.
Rick
One was from a German seller(possibly the same one you bought from) and the other two from a seller in France. How hard are they to take apart? Im thinking of doing Grainflow version though I noticed the ends are different so may have to have a think about the rebuild.

I love this thread Ive managed to buy 3 of the Electrotren Polybulks in the last week on Ebay from out of Europe(best done before Brexit kicks in proper haha) They are very far and few between though. Some in the states but they want a lot of money for them.

What size is it approximately? Love this design with fiddle yards being destinations yet you can still run trains on the continuous laps if you so wish to just watch them stretch their legs.
