  1. Picked up some of mine from Paul at Alton Model Centre this afternoon. Wow, wow and thrice wow, they are fantastic. The stay alive works so well that you can take it off the track and put it back into its beautiful box before the lights go off. IMHO the lighting is just right, not like some carnival procession that some manufacturers deliver. Well done Accurascale, I think its possible to say that if you normally deal with your local model shop you can have full confidence when you order an Accurascale model that it will arrive with a flourish. Looking forward to the next batch, hopefully some in the later NSE darker blue! all the best a very happy Godfrey
  2. A good question, I saw the sample at Febex at the weekend and it looked very impressive - a friend said it looked to be of Accurascale quality! I couldn't find any mention of it this morning on a skim through the announcements video. Very strange. Perhaps its not as ready as they want it to be or otherwise they want to add some liveries that have not been outshopped yet. Did not one of the real locos enter the Eastleigh works recently to be painted? Nobody has died so not of any great importance in the scheme of things! all the best Godfrey
  3. Many thanks ModelU Chris for your replies. One thing I love about the ModelU is that the proportion of head to body is correct (obviously!) whereas in many of the traditional white metal versions previously available the heads were far too large. The only factor which doesn't seem to apply to the figures is that once you go back in time before the '60s and '70s people were much smaller and many workers would have spent a childhood on such a poor diet that they had no chance of growing to the heights of their modern peers. Great products and great service, keep it up! all the best Godfrey
  4. Thank you so much Fran for your questions which have clearly started an interesting discussion. That you did engage with us is what we have come to expect and appreciate as modellers and customers. I have always been a fan of the 5WES and in terms of design I consider them to be one of the very best designed EMUs that has been produced in this country. They looked good and were comfortable to ride in as a passenger. I hasten to add that I have absolutely no knowledge regarding their technical strengths or weaknesses! As mentioned by Dunsignalling above, I think there are just three types of coach in the five car set which could make its selection cheaper than five very different coaches ( happy or perhaps sad to be told that I am wrong!). Regarding price I think your Irish Multiple Units are very reasonably priced for what they are and I am making a totally uneducated guess that sales of a Southern EMU might even be greater than your Irish units . Very few of us can afford to buy dozens of 5WESs at those prices but looking at the numbers of your wagons running behind your Class 37s on YouTube videos and at exhibitions I suspect that there are more out there willing to pay for top notch models than most of us appreciate. You produce top notch models at prices that a lot of us consider to be fair prices, I have proved that to myself by the number of Class 55s and 37s that have arrived at my house, either direct from you or via my local excellent shop in Alton. So in short, if you produced the 5WES at the sort of proportional prices that you charge for your Irish units, I would be planning a new layout and saving the pounds in anticipation of their release! many thanks Fran Godfrey
  5. Fran, its now a year since you informed us that you had seriously looked at the 5-WES and, as far as I know, nothing has emerged from the team who suggested that they were working on it. I really think you should go back to them and see if they are still committed to the idea. It's one of those very special EMUs that would really provide you with the opportunity to bring another stunning model to the hobby. all the best Godfrey
  6. A very sad and indeed shocking development. It just goes to demonstrate the intensity of the economic changes that surround us, some of International and some of them self inflicted by us as a country. My very best wishes and condolences go to the management and staff at Hattons as they go through this very painful period and hope that they all come through it with as much positivity as they can muster. Hattons will be much missed by the hobby. Godfrey
  7. Picked up my pre-ordered black one from Paul at Alton this afternoon. I was glad to have ordered the black version as Paul had already run out of that version, all the others were still available as of 4pm today! As per usual he always tests locos and it ran very smoothly around the test track at all speeds. It's a very impressive model and I think Muz and his colleagues have done a brilliant job, many thanks! All the best Godfrey
  8. The video from HM is excellent and congratulations to Graham and the team for getting this fascinating model to the market. I am looking forward to picking up two of them from Paul at Alton on Tuesday, I gather they arrived on Saturday! all the best Godfrey
  9. Great news Graham, and great that you and Kernow have done the Hornby in conjunction with Bachmann. I have ordered two of the first production versions from Paul at Alton Model Centre. I am old enough ( just) to remember seeing one on a level crossing somewhere near Newhaven in black and silver livery. At the time I was both disappointed (it wasn't a steam engine) and impressed (it was a very different type of loco and a bit of a revelation to a small boy). Thanks! All the best Godfrey
  10. Saw the first engineering sample running at the Taunton Show today. It looks very nice. Godfrey
  11. I went today with my five year old grandson and I totally agree with everything the good Captain said. Firstly there was a competition to engage the minds of young children and most importantly to me the quality of the layouts was excellent. The whole thing was very well organised, friendly and attentive helpers and the range of food and the service in the new dining area was outstanding. The venue is excellent and having had an overall responsibility for buildings in a state funded college I can only envy those who work in the private sector, they certainly make the most of their additional resources at Taunton School. Many thanks to all involved in putting on such an excellent show. all the best Godfrey
  12. That is simply crazy! I too saw the model at GETS and the ridiculous 'coal' load is the first thing you see when looking at the model. I was told that it will arrive in December, but then last year at Warley I was told July. I would rather have it next July if it means getting rid of the moulded plastic 'unremovable' coal. all the best Godfrey hanging on in hope that it will be 'right' when it eventually arrives!
  13. On page 5 in Issue 2 of Railway Times that I picked up from Paul at Alton Models today there is a photograph of SR U 31624 leaving Southampton Central with a Cheltenham train via Andover. It is hauling a three carriage train in Crimson and Cream. The author has identifies the first two coaches at least as being Toplights. The third coach appears to have the same roof profile. If this is correct it would be another, and very attractive, livery for these models. I would certainly want some. all the best Godfrey
  14. Just as an aside, undertaking is a profitable business and the Americans have moved into the UK and European industry in a big way. My wife is German, her grandmother was a very astute business woman. She built up two businesses in the 1920's, a large cafe and an undertakers. Under Hitler they couldn't own two businesses. She chose to keep the undertakers on the basis that during hard times people would not be able to buy coffee and cakes but they would always eventually need an undertaker. Besides the customers did not complain. It was a sensible move and after the war it was a business that was hard work but kept her immediate dependents in considerable comfort whereas many of their contemporaries struggled to earn a living. I am sure Montana will be very successful and wish her well. all the best Godfrey
  15. They are the actual bee's knees, mine arrived yesterday, beautifully packed and I am drooling over them. Another A** model from the Accurascale Team, Congratulations guys! Many thanks. all the best Godfrey
  16. A great deal of negativity around on here this evening me thinks. I have always been impressed with Montana, she has been at Hornby for eight years, that's a very long time for someone in marketing, especially at her age. To progress in her chosen career you need to move and gain experience in different fields and don't underestimate the amount of recruiting that goes on. There will be loads of firms out there who will have trawled through LinkedIn looking to fill a particular job. I would be very surprised if she hadn't been receiving loads of offers, especially after the television coverage. I am pleased for her, no young professional stays with the same firm for their working life these days, that's why Simon was different . Suggesting that she was pushed will not help her career. Good Luck Montana! all the very best Godfrey
  17. Saw these at Railex yesterday and they look very good. Godfrey
  18. My Enparts liveried one arrived this afternoon. All I can say, it’s worth waiting for a very long time for it. Absolutely superb. Well done Accurascale, another triumph. Really pleased that I have some more coming via Paul at Alton Model Centre all the best Godfrey
  19. Good Morning SWAGers, Just few additions to the Great SWAG B&B sale on Sunday more to come all the best Godfrey
  20. Great news - lots of forms for the Great SWAG Bring and Buy have been downloaded. You all now have a clear weekend ahead to sort through all those bits and pieces, books and models that you want to pass on to a fellow modeller who will cherish them and put them to good use. You know it makes sense! Just a few taster items will be appearing over the next week and for starters we have four high quality books that will be displayed at Taunton Happy sorting! all the very best Godfrey
  21. Spring is almost here and that can only mean one thing – the SWAG Day at Taunton is about to take place. We all know what a very special, nay unique, model railway event this is. Some come because of the chance to meet RMWeb friends and enjoy face to face conversations and banter, some for the high-quality models, layouts and displays, some for the demonstrations and brilliant inspirational ideas and some for the specialist retailers. Many come for the Pasties and Cake but let’s be honest, most come for the amazing Bring and Buy sale. It’s a wonderful opportunity to shift some of those items that have been in your ‘To do’ drawers for too long but could very well be just the thing another enthusiast would give their right arm to take home – well maybe not their right arm but you know what I mean! The sales will also help a good cause and 10% will go to the charity that is chosen each year. So please have a good look through your modelling stores and bookshelves and look out those items (no tat please) that you would like to contribute to this worthwhile upcycling event. Attached is a form that we hope covers all the necessary details that you can download and print off and bring with your items for sale on the 23rd. Please do make use of this thread to advertise any special items you would like to promote and that will be available for purchase at SWAG this year. We will be able to accept card payments on the day, but cash is always welcome, gold bars even more so! Happy sorting and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to PM me. All the best Godfrey SWAG2023Form-Final.docx
  22. My small order of two Spartans and a Haaglunds BV206 arrived yesterday, beautifully packed. I am really impressed and will certainly be getting some more. I do hope that this development is a success for Trains4U and that it leads to more suitable subjects for the Warflats! Many thanks. all the best Godfrey
  23. I am a regular day visitor to the Great Dorset Stream Fair, a fascinating event on a whole range of levels. It's always interesting to see the the huge range of steam driven machines working, and the people who spend hours on bringing them back to working condition. The range of stalls on the site is huge, as is the site itself and just watching the people there is a topic all on its own! I have only ever visited early on day one and usually head off home around mid afternoon so I have never experienced the music performances in the evening but many people go for the whole event and camp on site. Both Hornby and Oxford have supported the event for many years, when Taffy was just Oxford he could usually be found in the small tent alongside the main route through the event. Hornby have always been near to the western side of the site and Simon has usually been there to sell and talk to punters. Getting there early on day one provides the opportunity have a long talk with Simon and very occasionally to get a bargain of something, ( assuming of course its something you have haven't already bought for a lot more!) I happily admit to having enjoyed this second series, its just television light entertainment, not Panorama and whilst much of the terminology in the voice over is often irritating it works well as a programme for the general public and will have done Hornby no harm. all the best Godfrey
