Okay, Hither Green had stalled a while, (11 months actually) whilst I mulled over the roof design as we all know by now. one of my biggest personal traits that fights against me is I do a lot of thinking and mulling over in my head when I am up against a slight issue the issue I was having was how I was constructing the roof trusses and their resultant strength. Also the material I was using i had got Steve Smith to cut them out of acrylic sheet, which worked well, and I had them cut in individual pieces. This was my first mistake. Trying to join them end to end with a spot of superglue wasn’t strong enough, so I sliced into the ends with my dremmel and added a fillet of plasticard. This was a big improvement but this also meant that the acrylic became thin either side and is prone to breaking off easily. So more thinking, well I could also add reinforcing on either side in the form of a bracket. However, this doesn’t resolve the fact I have 1.2m lengths with stil relatively flimsy joints, and I don’t want it sagging under its own weight the roof is needed to be self supporting along the front scene. It’s supported both ends and along the back, so they aren’t an issue. so after what seems to be an eternity, I decided to bite the bullet and got back in touch with Steve again. he still had my trusses on file so linked them end to end and has made them out of one pice instead of 5, and is also slightly thicker. This will also mean that the roof will be easier to glue than the acrylic. he subsequently got shipping quotes as I’m in Australia, which was not small, as duly shipped them off. Auspost in Sydney rejected the items from coming into this country without even examining the contents and didn’t even bother to indicate with a tick on their sticky return label as to the reason (I suspect the inspector couldn’t work out it wasn’t real roof trusses contaminated with UK spiders and dirt for model parts) So having received a refund, trepidation and a description change, they were duly sent back with a different courier. these arrived in Perth this time, and sailed straight through and arrived safely. well, with one and a half trips round the globe, at a scale of 1:43.5, this equates to 2.5 return trips to the moon in shipping! Well travelled indeed, but they have arrived, and here they are.. I still haven’t resolved how I’m going to fabricate the curved tops to the corrugated Northlites, I may have to just leave them pointed which will bug me, and has taken over the mulling over in my head. Various plans have come and gone, but I am not conversant with 3D design and printing and not sure I have time to learn as I still can’t do photoshop lol

Well, having not been in the 7mm forum for a while, I’ve just found this thread, and what a cracking little project this is. I cannot be held responsible for any filing of bankruptcy due to only wanting 4 locos….5….6….7….13….14…seeing as you quoted me as inspiration 😛

of course a diesel set will sell. Currently diesel modellers need to buy everything seperate, and that means if you want an oval of track and a full HST you need to pay in excess of £600. You can buy more than 3 steam sets for that price

Well how about diesel starter train sets? Not everyone wants an A3 or A4. Or have I missed something? Anyway, that coupled by being shafted by the Australian wholesaler importer meaning I couldn’t buy anything direct from Hornby pricing it out of any sensible person down here’s budget. At least moving it out to retailers helped but it means still there is no benefit from being in the TT120 club as that only benefits if you can buy from Hornby. So if a diesel set is announced, then I might get drawn in, as I was going to be initially……

Well, on mine, the join in the roof is barely noticeable. Less than ones I’ve seen in videos so I’m okay with it. It’s also a very smooth and slow runner, so as long as I keep it clean hopefully it’ll give me many hours of fun

Just got mine, here in Australia. full sound version, admittedly second hand, works beautifully, but less than half price of the RRP i call that a win. Would be nice if some more got produced

‘Innovation’……Lenz and others have had this very form of uncoupling method for years, so not exactly innovative, other than it being the first use of it in OO. I’m pretty sure it also needs steel hooks on the couplers to work, so it it isn’t metal, it won’t work despite them saying it will work on everything

I’m looking at adding a farm crossing sort of pre war era on the western region (if that makes any difference) on a single track branch, but what I’m not sure of is, what style of gates would have been used? would it be a railway built crossing gate, or just a normal 5 bar farm gate that would be opened outwards into the farm track allowing the crossing to be open both sides before crossing without obscuring the track? any thoughts would be appreciated. I’m thinking of an old open farm gate leaning against a hedge with a dirt track leading up to it
