  1. So, after a 20 year gap, I have finally managed to find the time to start building a small layout.

ive spent many holidays visiting family in Alton, and visited the Mid Hants many times. The catalyst for this layout was my wife and kids buying me the Bachman’s Longmoor Military Railway pack for my 50th birthday.

The layout is by no means a replica of Alton, but will hopefully be recognisable and have a few features including the brewery. I’ve already started kitbashing a Metcalf Models engine shed o make the brewery, and am also adapting the metcalf footbridge to look like the real one.

  2. Hi, I knew the LMR quiet well and from the various books I have, created a full detailed scenery for users of Train Simulator 2013. You can see some of this work on Youtube

by searching for Longmoor Military Railway or LMR here is the latest video

    Cheers

I was wondering if you would have a track layout for longmoor downs?

  3. Superb modelling and I can't get over the transformation with the wagons. I've been away from the hobby for a while and am pretty shocked at the cost of some models these days. I know Hornby have upped their game in recent years, but a bit of weathering (ian Futers style) and flushglaze windows can transform any 1970s or 80s diesel.

I've started a small 4 x 2 layout based on the Edinburgh & Dalkeith railway, which originally ran through what is now my back garden although, probably looking around Leith end for inspiration, due to there still being a mix of some fine architecture and dereliction as well as the opportunity for some small industrial working.

  4. Good to see so many layouts on this website which are based on locations close to my home. Leith being about 3 miles away. The other interesting one, is in N gauge, based around Newcraighall/ Niddrie Junction. The old sidings here, which originally formed the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway line down to Leith actually ended in what is now my back garden.

  5. This is an absolutely amazing model which captures the area superbly. The photos above are very reminiscent of the Edinburgh urban scene, and I would have to say, the photos around the embankment and bridge, could easily pass for the Edinburgh Sub, around the Gorgie/ NB distillery area, which was a regular haunt of mine as a kid back in the 70s. Can you tell us how big the layout is.

I was also interested in the photos of Scotland Street, My old club used to exhibit Dave Elbourne's old layout around the circuit, but I'm not sure whatever happened to it.
