  1. As a resident of said location I would be interested in following your thread if you have one?
  2. To be honest the video doesn’t do justice to the sound. Even after a minute or so running I said to myself “that’s insane “. It really is something very special and leaps and bounds above the original factory set up from 15+ years ago. I need to turn the sound down though! I double headed it with an Accurascale 37 and it drowned the 37 out. On the basis of one running session I would highly recommend the tablet speaker. I will give an update after a few more sessions. Major grin factor.
  3. 20148 arrived home this morning and is seen ex works at Mallaig this afternoon.
  4. I’m guessing the Octel workings were tripped from Llandudno Jc to Amlwch rather than being it’s own service? Industry at Mostyn or Deeside could be considered. I doubt airbus at Broughton has ever had anything delivered/shipped out by rail but if it did it would have been in vans.
  5. My 20148 has had a little holiday in Leeds. Sounds much better for it. Really excited for her return and lots of running on Mallaig. I think Fort William are going to have a class 37 shortage for a few weeks. Thanks to Richard at Roads and Rails.
  6. yes absolutely and it’s very clear but I really needed to tone mine down as it doesn’t look like that every day. Lovely photo, Morar?
  7. My West Highland layout had one of those Hornby 25s (renumbered as 228) and a Lima class 20,
  8. Gosh, 3 months since my last update! Not a great deal to report on layout progress but I did decide it was about time that the tide came in. I had always planned to use resin to make the sea but I was not confident that I could dam it properly and prevent it leaking out at the edge of the board so I thought I would trial the toilet paper method. I went about 5 layers thick with it and once I had worked and manipulated it I was fairly happy with it on a test piece so I went ahead with it on the layout. Again I was happy. Yesterday I bought some cheap acrylic paints I’m the local B&M and attempted to get a colour match comparing it with a photo of the exact same area. I was happy with all the change in shades achieved but the end result was way to tropical. So I have since painted over it with a base coat of a much paler blue. It was a fun experiment but hopefully the next version will be more realistic. The toilet paper glued and sculpted to shape. The first version And how it looks now after a base layer of sky blue. I need to get some green and grey involved but first I need to pay a visit to The Range I’m Bangor and get a tube of light blue as I’m now out.
  9. Wonderful photos of the emerging preservation scene at Loughborough. I was a visitor at the time and as a young boy I thought it was amazing. I remember the double track with only one line in use before the second was taken up. I would have only been 5 or 6 at the time. Thank you for jogging those memories.
  10. I always thought that the Millwall fans ventured onto the western in the hope of some nice comforting Duff haulage. 🤔 Mugs 🤣
  11. Milwall fans? 🤣🤣 pussycats OUFC always 😀
  12. @Melangoose our paths may well have crossed on those 80’s Oxford- Pads. Regular runs FCFW to Reading, couple of hours spotting then some Thumper thrash down to Basingstoke for a couple of hours and then back to Reading for another couple of hours. The best of days. Hood looks stunning in your pics. Very nice 👌
  13. Weathering looks very nice Andy and the Cavalex 56 speaks for itself. Are the 20s from the latest batch? They sound good. I have an early Bachmann 20 and I’m wondering what sound/speaker combination to go for. I think yours are the latest model though? Nice little videos, they came on my fire stick as ‘1 minute ago’ so I think I was your first viewer 😀.
  14. Rob you are thinking of the shunt to rearrange the obs saloon at Mallaig if it’s 39081 you’re looking for. It’s on this dvd. Andy
  15. I always believed that the loop at Mallaig was 6 coaches long too and in 2011 when I rode The Jacobite it was load 7 and I was expecting some shunting on arrival. As for running round a double headed 9 coach train I believe, and please don’t ask me to provide evidence as I read it somewhere back in the midst of time, on arrival the train would back up and detach 6 coaches. The loco/s would then run round the 3 in the loop and shunt them into the siding. Not platform 2, the siding by the loco shed. Then they would retrieve the other six, run round and shunt back. The 3 in the siding could then be added to the front of the train. Yes I have definitely got a lot out of the conversation regarding paint for the buildings and glad the subject was raised. I was about to ask the same question on my own thread so I’m glad that Stuart follows yours. As you can see I’m fairly close to needing that answer 😀 So thank you for raising it and again to Stuart for his insight. Andy
  16. Highly improbable. It’s nice though isn’t it? 😀
  17. Hi Andy, Its rather timely that I’m having an RMweb catch up here as I’m trying to replicate Glenfinnan paint scheme for this same era. I was heartened when Rainbow Railway’s released a range of paints appropriate for the Peco West Highland kits and placed an order for the two greens. I have done some test sampling and I’m far from convinced they have got the shades right. To my eye they are both to dark. I was going to try and mix some yellow in with the lighter green to get that lime green shade but thanks to the tip off from @4firstimes above I will be trying the Tamiya ones. Much appreciated thanks. Your area of unkempt garden on the slopes below the platform are looking very effective. I like. Andy
  18. A very nice job you’ve done there. Worth the effort. Looks fantastic 👏
  19. Very interesting Jeremy. Thanks for the explanation and diagram. So much knowledge in this community and those kindly willing to share it. Much appreciated Thank you
  20. I have been mulling over how to do the water for the little piece of the North Atlantic that I need to model on Mallaig. This below is one option and it has been used to very good effect on Redbridge Wharf which is in the current Hornby Magazine and I have seen recently at either Warley or GETS. I think I favour resin though as I want to see things under the ‘water’ like the stones on the shoreline and the rails on the slipway. Luke Towan has done some tutorials on this but he’s down under and I haven’t researched to see if the products he uses for his sea or river dioramas is available here in the UK. I hope these video help. Andy
  21. This is very sad news. I have been going for around 15 years now and it’s been such an inspiration and always a nice atmosphere. Many years it’s the only show I attend. It has been one of my most important dates on the calendar and a place to have a yearly catch up with friends. Thank you to all the Warley team who have worked tirelessly over the years to put on such a mammoth event, your efforts have been appreciated and enjoyed by thousands. Best of luck with your future events. I have a funny feeling in my water that another, more commercial show organiser may well take up the late November NEC slot in the future. Not In The Know just a feeling. Thanks for the memories Warley Club.
  22. Hi folks, I am an absolute novice rolling stock builder and thought that this would be a nice one to make a start with. Could someone please recommend from their experience where is the best place to go in search of the wheelsets and bearings? Thanks in advance.
