  1. What was the name of the bridge Peter? This was an area I spent a lot of time in during the 50s and early 60s, fishing and watching the trains(mostly goods..........beautiful area. Rgds.......Mike

  4. Over 50 years ago I worked, as part of my training, as a teller at an agency of the CWS Bank, I was nervous(for ages), dealing with people and their money, it was a little bit scary(at 18!!), but what I did find, was that the majority of my customers were patient and supportive and came back especially to see me, very, very rarely was there any confrontation and when there was, the senior guy working next to me would invariably come to my rescue. I originally patronized a few very good model shops in Melbourne until I moved to country SA. They were friendly, helpful and full of good advice just like the ones I used in the UK..........this hobby should NEVER be about confrontation. The real Plonkers need to look in a mirror!! MIKE
  5. I am going to go off topic, we had a security system installed by Chubb in Melbourne. expensive but we thought essential although our area was pretty much crime free, we moved in 2002 to a country area in South Oz and SWMBO down here on her own decided to get a similar system installed here. The cost of the system was much the same but the installation cost was massive. Anyway I wasn't here and it was done. The system was back to base, no phone call, alarm went off and out they came...........$150.00 for a huntsman spider walking across a sensor. Happened a couple of times before I said NO...ring me first. Then had an issue with the system, a guy came out, couldn't fix it butill.....you guessed it $150.00, a couple of days later out came anothr tech, who after a short time told me a circuit board was f***cked, got to put in a new one, he said!........$700.00 later plus $150.00 for the service call. Anyway after he had disappeared I rang Chubb to ask why all these service charges for basically the one job. The answer was...........these people are not our employees. they are contractors solely responsible for charging and collecting. Chubb cannot accept any liability, sound familiar...........................my point is that this type of organisation(sound similar to BG) is best is possibly avoided!! Mike
  6. RIP Allan.........So sad to hear of this, I knew he had serious health issues, nevertheless these times are always difficult. Condolences to his family.............Allan I will miss your humour, wit and superlative modelling. I once showed a photo of one of Allan's buildings to my wife Ruth and she could not believe it was a model, such was the mans talent. Mike

  11. Hey Jeff, Sometimes retirements are not quite what they are cracked up to be!! I'm 72 this year and still having to earn a quid or resort to a garbage OAP!............remember your trials and tribulations with "Alcazar" well, hope things turn out better with 70036. Incidentally, she was the last ex-GER Brit I copped, only missing out on 70010, so I look forward to see how you go. Rgds and Good Luck.........Mike
  12. They look fantastic, I have been thinking about Severn Models stuff for some time, are they that easy to put together?, do you solder or glue??...........sorry to hi-jack the thread, which I am enjoying immensely....Thank You. Rgds..........Mike
  13. How bloody ridiculous, what in the hell is going on in society..............yes minister strikes again, cut every resource but don't cut my benefits. Why aren't these felons in custody????? There was talk here in Oz about setting up independent groups to combat this crap but although the police do not have the resource to deal with these situations and I understand the reasoning behind this........ it can't happen. Something should surely occur whereby Mr and Mrs Citizen have the right to fix these bustards .........rant over but feel very strongly about this..............anyway my 303 is in the gun safe if they ever decide to pay us a visit!! MIke
  14. THE ITALIAN WEDDING TEST I was a very happy man. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. There was only one little thing bothering me...It was her beautiful younger sister. My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight mini skirts, and generally was bra-less. She would regularly bend down when she was near me, and I always got more than a nice view. It had to be deliberate because she never did it when she was near anyone else. One day her 'little' sister called and asked me to come over to check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived, and she whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me that she couldn't overcome. She told me that she wanted me just once before I got married and committed my life to her sister. Well, I was in total shock, and couldn't say a word. She said, 'I'm going upstairs to my bedroom, and if you want one last wild fling, just come up and get me.' I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. I stood there for a moment, then turned and made a beeline straight to the front door. I opened the door, and headed straight towards my car. Lord... And behold, my entire future family was standing outside, all clapping! With tears in his eyes, my father-in-law hugged me and said, 'We are very happy that you have passed our little test. We couldn't ask for a better man for our daughter. Welcome to the family.' And the moral of this story is: Always keep your condoms in your car.
  15. Since 1966 the Germans have been very good(and many times lucky)...........not this morning, I loved it!! Mike
  16. Just received a Bachy 3F described as spares/repairs "non-runner'' off ebay. Gave it the once over.....broken tender hand rail, broken tender brake stanchion and no sand pies on the loco, other than that it looks like new. Anyway, held my breath and popped it on the rolling road, a bit hesitant at first but then after a little while ran like a dream in both directions.......for 42 smackers I am well pleased and the minor faults described above are an easy fix. Rgds.Mike
  17. I wish you had a video of this layout, I would love to watch the movement.........thanks for sharing the photos, they take me back a long way!. Rgds...........Mike

  21. That is an evil post!!! Some months ago I was persuaded by SWMBO to become a vegie (almost;still eat fish, seafood etc.), still going through withdrawal symptoms though!. Yesterday, I had to go to Yankalilla where, on Main Street lives this superb traditional butcher.........the smells of the produce as I walked past the door, especially the small goods made me reel(and drool), the pork pies looked melt in the mouth stuff.....I nearly weakened but wishing to hang on to my most valuable pieces of meat.....walked on. Best wishes to all in need especially Debs and Andyram, I lost my father-in-Law on the weekend, he was 86 and it was expected, still hard though but 16, everything to look forward to and to take your own life an absolute tragedy. Whatever you may think about today's kids, I am so glad I was not subjected to the pressures they are. Mike
