  1. On the subject of boxes...

Went to the Toy Fair at Stafford yesterday, on one stand they had 3 Bachman 66s, all 66152.

    £125, £120 & £105.

The pricing looked as though it was the condition of the box - the £105 loco is a very good runner, so £20 saved...

The motors look suspiciously like Scalextric style - so good for high speed, lightweight work. Only.

Didn't Hornby fit one of those to their original class 58s?

Skin on the rice puddings were in no danger!

  3. I went on NFL.com after posting yesterday and there was an article about how to watch in the UK. Low and behold MNF is live each week on C5 - that was well publicised!! There is also half an hour on a Sunday morning on C5 at 1030 - so I'll log off here and find out what that's like.

  4. ITV have done it again!!

After aquiring Match of the Day from the BBC they nearly killed off football (?soccer) highlights. Next they got F1 and put adverts in the races.

Now they've got Osi and JBell and The NFL Show. 48 minutes of absolute rubbish, there were 2 minutes of TNF highlights to pad out the 50 minutes. Even Osi And Jason look as though they are going through the motions.

At least NFL.com does some highlights.

Penalising for quali crashes is an awkward one.

Schumacher's infamous park at Rascasse was penalised but it showed that if you could stop in a more subtle way, you could use this to your advantage.

A little under 10 years later, Rosberg set a provisional pole then out-braked himself to cause a yellow flag, which protected his pole. Whether this was intentional was debateable, so the stewards took no action. Deliberate or not, this was a reminder that it was possible to ruin other's qualy by forcing a safety car.

Last year, Leclerc crashed after holding provisional pole. Verstappen was on a really fast lap & looked likely to beat it. This left Leclerc on pole position. I believe he was just pushing too hard but he benefitted from his own mistake. A mistake should never be beneficial. Justice was sort of done because he had damaged something & failed to start.

At Monaco this year, Perez spun & was hit by Sainz who was too close to avoid him. Again, this stopped Verstappen from potentially setting a pole lap. Who ended up winning the race? Perez. If he had not caused the red flag, he would probably never been in a position to win the race.

Would it be wrong to penalise someone for making a genuine mistake which affects somebody else's qualy? I don't think so.

It it wrong to do nothing at all knowing that a loophole is there & can be exploited? Yes. It is wrong to just accept it.

In the BTCC if you cause a red flag in quali you loose your fastest time.

If the item IS R3971 (though the box isn't shown) then it will be insanely expensive. Its "limited edition" with Hornby Dublo branding, DCC Ready and has a diecast body.  Various online vendors have it listed for the same or higher amount.

One online vendor has R3971 listed for £699.  I was contemplating getting a Pentax D-70 DSLR camera body over the weekend, that was also £699, but I decided I couldn't afford it.  How is a relatively "simple" locomotive model worth as much as a highly complex DSLR?

    And another thing....

    How's this for ebay madness?

    Steampunk "wristwatch"

    or

    Buy it now

    From the same vendor...

The image is a "stock" image from another site.

Love the watch - bid at the moment £4.20 which seems reasonable but buy now at £99.99 you can put it where the sun doesn't shine....
