  1. To be fair to the warehouse team, they have improved their packaging skills. The air pockets are a big improvement on previously putting a piece of folded brown paper in the box!
  2. My guess, a HEA as allows future CEA/RNA/MEA/MFA variants in different liveries
  3. If you message them, they have said they can resize them to 1/76. I have a 1/72 landrover and it is significantly bigger than an Oxford model
  4. I've had a few models from Elhiem who make wargaming vehicles. The scale is 1/72 but as they are 3d printed they can do them in different scales and have a range of landrovers and other exotics. Some have metal wheels which might not be suitable for rescaling but a loot are just 3d prints. https://www.elhiem.co.uk/ourshop/prod_6970467-VBA11-WOLF-LR-110-latest-version-of-the-Medium-Utility-Truck.html My current work in progress is PSNI landrovers
  5. Possibly of use to anyone building one of Scale Model Scenery's Micro Layouts. B&M are stocking the Really Useful Plastic 77L Christmas Tree boxes for £20 Usually hard to get hold of and those that have them are charging £25+
  6. There is the Peco guidebook to the series, which isn't too bad as a "next steps guide"
  7. Enjoyed the show, and more importantly my wife and son also enjoyed it. Hopefully it raises the profile of the hobby in the same way Master Chef and Bake Off saw an increase in home chefs and bakers. Maybe not the format for purists, but the fact they have got a second series commissioned means they are doing something right!
  8. I think it's the nature of the hobby now, if we demand more and more detailed models, with more separately added details, you're going to get more pieces coming loose. In past 2 months 3 out of 4 of my purchases have had pieces lying in the box ( Revolution TEA tankers, Dapol class 68 and Hattons RHTT) but at least they were in the box, but waiting to see how many other pieces are going to be shaken off during running or handling in future months and lost. It would be useful if manufacturers made it easier to buy detailing pieces as replacements.
  9. Wagons arrived today, with a few pieces rattling around in the box, but if we want more and more fine detail its the risk we take when we rely of postal services for delivery! Overall very pleased , a good weighty model and lots of detail
  10. Looking forwards to them but over past two years my layout has shrunk to 6 foot, might be difficult to fit 18 tankers on it! Think they're off to storage until the kids move out.
  11. Just watched the show and thought as family entertainment it was excellent. Was expecting it to be very cringe worthy with all the usual stereotypes. It had a good mix of inspirational modelling and drama to keep modellers and non modellers interested. Didn't go into much detail on techniques, in the world of Google and YouTube you can do more research yourself if so inclined, it was more about showing what can be done. Watched the show and my eight year old son, who refuses to go to model rail shows is hooked and looking forwards to next Friday's show. Anything that raises the profile of the hobby without making fun of it is a good thing.
  12. Any word on Murphy Models, are they still operating?
  13. Almost sold out everywhere. Shows what happens when you make a good model at a realistic price. Unfortunately arrived wrong side of payday so missed the boat on buying a full set.
  14. Looking at the pictures, a lot of the pipework appears to be moulded and combined with the end hoppers swinging off the coupling its a bit disappointing. Still its an impressive wagon and will be buying one, just can't justify forming a rake. If the 500 on sale weren't subsidising Drax's freebies I would have bought a rake @ £40-45 a go, instead I'm going to be investing in a Freightliner HHA rake.
  15. The potential profit to be made from selling future runs of these will be negligable to Drax and most probably this run will be cost neutral to Drax as the cost of the ones given away by Drax will be subsidised by what modellers pay for their models.
  16. Can't blame Hornby for taking the commission. Cash up front and don't have to negotiate licencing etc. Drax aren't interested in supplying modellers, its more of a marketing/vanity exercise. Pity a model shop hadn't commissioned them, then price and numbers would probably be different.
  17. Well thats around £2000 for a prototypical rake! Don't think I'll be doing that. Think I'm facing a switch to N gauge for a Durham Coast Line layout!
  18. Think you might need a bigger layout.........or wait for the n gauge model! https://twitter.com/teesmedia/status/687725735482638336
  19. Had this problem with a number of Bachmann 66's in each case the clearance between bogie and chassis was too small and bogie would catch with enough resistance to flip wheel off track. only solution was to remove the bogie and put a thin washer over the mounting post. All then works well but this has put me off buying 66's as shouldn't have to correct design faults. Have contacted Bachmann but never got a reply.
  20. Waited years for Bachmann to upscale Farish's hya. This'll do instead but my Durham Coast Layout will have to jump forwards a decade! A rake of 23 could be very expensive!
  21. Think rails extend into hard standing but appear to have wheel stops before the rails get to the concrete. Not pleasant working outside with snow on the ground!
  22. Started planning a layout based on Tees Yard (next winter's project) challenging bit being trying to model the train crew's quarters and general clutter. Always a wide variety of stock passing through. Look like your off to a good start and have attached some pix of the area if they are of any modeling use.
  23. Looks like Freightliner in Teesside is moving from Wilton to a new open user terminal. With ASDA and Tesco warehousing nearby may see a few more container flows running. http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/business/business-news/freightliner-3m-rail-terminus-switch-7448926#comments
  24. Lovely model Arthur, don't know why Hornby painted their Sentinels, should have left them with a coat of primer! There are endless possibilities for liveries that should keep Hornby in business for next decade, or two.
