Applying a bit of DJM logic to the APT:

The first payment was to fund the scanning and research - that happened so those funders have got their money's worth and are no longer creditors.

The second payment would have been to fund tooling - that was never requested and there is no tooling.

The other payments were to produce the models - ditto.

In terms of the logic I know where you are coming from.

If I get a chance later this morning, I’ll post my take on all of this.  Generally my view is whilst there may have been stage payments to fund the various stages of a project, the aim was to produce a model in its entirety not just the various steps in isolation. I’m sure most would agree.

Just for good measure, another CJM Class 50. Just a personal view, but I doubt the Dapol one will get close to the CJM one in terms of looks and performance. But..... they are different price points so there's a place for both.

Thankfully CJM launched this as the Dapol one has been some time coming and may be some time yet. I fully appreciate the cost rules some out.

  3. Here's the final update on this N gauge building project.

I've made and fitted the pyramid shaped skylight and finished the basic painting. However, there are still a few bits and pieces to do like adding details (such as burglar alarms, signs, vents and so on), weathering and scene setting, but I've other projects to be getting on with. As the building is not urgently required I can put it to one side for the time being:

Superb modelling Grahame. What's the eventual plan for this and the other LB structures you've been doing recently?

  4. I apologise to DJM in advance for this pure assumption, but I suspect that these crowd funding projects along with the many retailer commissions that all jump the queue are encouraged to help finance the business. The profits from these are paying for the standard range, along with the J94 and mermaids, it all adds up to support the growing, new start up business.

Dave and I have had our differences and I am far from an out and out supporter, as people on here have criticised me in the past, but fairs fair he's trying. I disagree with his land grab early announcements, but the crowd fund and retail commissions all help fund the standard range.

I'm afraid your assumption is wrong. Unless Dave is building in a profit margin over and above the time he puts in to helping these come to fruition then I very much doubt this and any other 'crowd funded' project will be funding his other projects.

At the price quoted I can't really see there is much in it for him on the first run of models. I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

  5. I've been sidetracked away from working on the SER 'Flat Iron' building to starting the pub - the Shpwrights Arms - which is next door. The view is of the rear of the building over the railway viaduct with most of the windows and details on the facing away side. These walls are yet to be made and fitted and there's plenty of details to add - but probably after I've painted it. The roof on the attached building (formerly a kebab shop) has a dome in place of the inverted traditional roof (according to google maps) but does anyone have any ideas/details of what it is?.

Not sure what the dome/circle on the roof is as I can't find a well enough defined satellite image. Is it definitely a dome or could it be some form of ornate tiling? After a bit of googling it looks like it may not be there too much longer as Moss Arcitecture look like they are working on a scheme for the property. Certainly an interesting feature.

    Great model by the way!

  6. There were some EP's in the Dapol cabinet this weekend at TINGS, decorated samples will hopefully be ready for Warley apparently. Release early 2016.
