Had a period of eyelid inspection one afternoon and woke up feeling even worse. Must admit it’s something i don’t usually do as I always seem to feel worse for it.
Napping affects me in the same way. I reckon it takes me as much time to get myself straight after a nap as the time I’ve napped for. My wife will happily fall asleep for 15 minutes or so on the couch in the evening. One of our sons used to stretch out and sleep on the couch for half an hour almost every day after school. I never could do anything like that. Both my dad and my father-in-law could take 5 minute naps. Dad said he’d learned that in the forces during WW2 - if you had nothing else to do, you napped because you often weren’t sure when you might next have the opportunity.

My mother always said that when she was young, in the 1920s in rural Hertfordshire, the rule was that you should only eat pork when there was an 'R' in the month.
Is there not the same rule for oysters?- 1

Bear can thoroughly recommend climbing in the bin and treading it down - works wonders, but don't do it until the bin is nearly full, otherwise climbing out again is, er, "interesting". Ask a Bear how he knows.
… and make sure you steady yourself (and the bin) by holding on to something separate from the bin.- 12

Should people in the South of England by kettles on defurred terms?
They should compare three different makes before buying. Having done that, peoples’ buying decisions show remarkable consistency. 10% chose the first one they evaluate, 25% choose the second, but the majority pick de furred one.- 1

Postperson just ambled past, chunnering to themselves....
On reflection, they must have a bluetooth headset.
Simples!
First time I experienced anything like that was in Glasgow airport, after an overnight flight from Canada. Standing in an airport toilet, the guy at the next urinal started chatting away very conversationally. In my sleep-deprived state, it took me a few seconds to sort out what was happening. I’d never seen a hands-free phone before.- 1

Yes, bad move! I thought about doing that in the spreadsheet I’ve created. A very quick mental ballpark calculation put me right off the idea.- 14

We have friends coming into town this week, and they will have dinner with us one evening. My wife has decided dessert will be based around cakes from one or more of the artisanal bakeries in town. This has, of course, meant that research is required on the current (and currant) offerings of these bakeries. Here are samples of the products of two of them:
We have another sample to try later today (well, three at a time would have been a little gauche!), plus another bakery to visit before making a final choice.

The National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs are getting towards the final. Because of the huge geographical distances between some teams, the regular season schedule isn’t exactly balanced home and away. So, on the way to the final, the playoffs are organized into two geographical groups - Eastern and Western “conferences” and the winners of these conferences play each other in the final. There is a trophy awarded to the winner of each conference before the final.
The Florida Panthers have just won the Eastern conference and the trophy for this was at the rink to be presented. The team followed a traditional superstition - none of the players would touch the trophy. The coach (manager) emphasized to them not to do so. The superstition is that if anyone touches the conference trophy, that team will lose the overall final.

Early on, some Barry engines had no number on them - cab, bufferbeam, chalked or painted. One method of identifying was to collect as many numbers as possible from motion and any other numbered parts and go with the most common. 🫤
