im trying to resist but im gunna have to be pedantic Robin :)

The pressure switches are shorted via an interlock when S1 and S2 (contactors that connect the generator start windings to the battery) are energised because on a sulzer type 2/3 and a sulzer type 4 the voltage drop across the batteries during engine cranking slows the pump down to the point the water pressure switch will usually not hold. In reality, (as dave ex OC pointed out :) ) the fuel racks wouldn't open if the governor hasn't seen oil pressure but that would be achieved within several revolutions of the engine via its own oil pump.

EEs seem to be a lot more phinicky than a sulzer and they will just crank and crank until the pressure is hit

once S1 and S2 drop out (start button is released) the engine run solenoid is maintained via the action of the pressure switches but even then...the discharge resistor means it will discharge slower and make it less prone to a shutdown in the event of letting go of the start button immediately after firing.....unless...its a 47 which has an additional "run oil pressure" switch (set to higher pressures), which is why you have to wait for the engine stopped light to go dim before you can let go of the start button.

I stand well and truly corrected but must point out that on most Sulzer type twos relays were packed out with match sticks while in BR service lol

Carnforth Railway and Restoration engineering services lists 159 staff, in 2022 accounts.

In the related party disclosures, it says “they handle all the payroll costs for other group companies”.

it also operates a pension scheme (assets are independent of the company).

I also note this business registered at Helifield station, has overdue accounts in companies house for this year, due December 31st 2023, and a First Gazette notice for compulsory strike-off has been issued.

all this is on companies house.

Correct, I know a driver on a part time contract who is payed to sit in a cabin at Newark

I've got a question here: How is CDL controlled throughout the train? I'm guessing that it needs another set of jumpers or is it done over the Carriage Lighting Circuit's? Either way I'm supposing that the Mk1's in that rake have still had to have money spent on them to allow the CDL in the other vehicles to work, and they will be dual braked too, so why not just fit CDL to them and be done with it (I'm surprised that the Buffet isn't already CDL fitted so that it can run in the Mk2 rake)?

Buffet has no booked passenger seating. Doors are locked and only to be used by staff.

Having chatted to Mr S at York I am confident he knows his stuff....in detail....

Had a chat with him today, he does know his stuff and is always open to input regarding his models.

He said he was pleased by all the comments he received at York and said the team ( the two of them ) are hard at work dealing with all the orders.

  6. It's safe to say if you wait you will be rewarded. It is a thing of beauty.

I have only found two small errors (and I mean small) which I will not say what they are due to the fact that I know ever inch inside and out of a 25/3.

With my aged eyes (lol) it looks right which only a few other models these days match, no drawing or tape measures needed to compare, "It looks right".

My only big issue is with them doing 25904 because as a /9 she was never mint.

Now will they do a super 25/3 ( no small grill)

  7. Chilterns 68's are fiited with AAR and DRS ones aren't and as the mk3 look like their going to be kept for at least 18 months and DRS are short of locos now (ar@e kicking given on the use of zero houred 37 the other day) there is some fighting over locos due, but at the end of the day they are DRSs

Why don't Chiltern just buy their own new stock and stop going round with cap in hand.

When an order is posted, there is an email notification from SLW and then one from Royal Mail with the delivery date and time range. They are clearly now working through the orders but given it's a small team I expect it will take time for all orders to be sent out.

Correct, they are a small team and are working the orders with the added issue of contacting people to get their up to date card details.

Also worth a mention is the fact they don't work Mondays.

See it as a fine wine, the longer you wait the better it gets lol

If it had an overhaul in 2016 and a boiler overhaul in 2022, does that mean its good until 2029 ? (7 years ?).

if so retiring it 2 years in would seem wasteful.

Who else could look after Scotsman ?

Rileys, WCRC, LSL any one else ?

Think Ian is looking for an easy life these days

The NCE system, theres quite a few out there and im one of them and had it for many years seems not to have the capability to produce the voltage that is preferable to run the full fat DCC layout,

I have the NCE 5amp Pro system and you can alter the output voltage to what you want from inside as long as you have a power supply that kicks out the correct voltage in the first place.

Maybe @25901 might want to share some of his memories with the preserved NBL shunters D2767/D2774 ?

Can't repeat my times with NBLs as I might get banned off this forum, lets just say that NBL deserved to go bust due to the use of M.A.N. based units. The original plan was to use Gardner units after the Paxman ones in shunters but somebody had a bright idea.

adb968008 did you ever see D2767s crankshaft suicide

Theres seven TPE services canceled at Manchester piccadilly alone yesterday…

so maybe your source is wrong.

That excludes those removed from timetables that theyve just given up on and downsized their operation, long term, or short term.

I know one TPE driver (I think you know him too from the old days abd968008) who has just walked away from the job due to the aggro he got every day off not just the general public but also TPE control.

He is cleared to drive Deltics on the mainline but not even been thought of to do training on 68s.

Not just the public that have had too much but the staff are at their wits end.

The time has come to split it up.
