I'm looking for the issue of RM with a particular plan of the month in it. I think it was a Roy Link one, which puts it in the late 70s/early 80s.
Its based on a southern branch line, and was I seem to recall L shaped. It may have been in N gauge, as I think it suggested the use of the Minitrix 2-6-2T.
Any ideas?
I think you may be thinking of the plan of the month from the April 1979 Railway Modeller, 'A Southern Branch Line'. This plan was the inspiration for the Liphook and District Model Railway Club's Titherleigh layout, although we decided to do a mirror image of the plan in OO just to be different.

According to the Rail Signs website it is informing the driver of the train that the Barriers are Up. Have a look at the bottom of the page of the attached website.
