Cambrian Campers, top stuff! The last picture reminds me of the camp site at Aberdovey, not far from the station by the sand dunes. I was reading recently about the GWR camping coaches which also looked like something interesting to model. I'm yet to tackle scenery but I like the look of the grass mat - do you apply any other colouring or is it as is? This is looking better with each post Jaakko, thanks for the updates.

Looks good to me Jaako. Down the centre line of the road a small growth of weeds or possibly a slightly darker grey shading/weathering to show where loose chippings/dirt has collected could be an option. The walls and grass look good, the terrain has a lovely flow to it.

Hi Phil, loving these photographs, agree with Aberdare, the blend between foreground and background is excellent. Particularly like your photoshop'd steam as well, very affective.

I'm modelling the Cambrian, though won't be starting on the larger shed project just yet until I've practiced on a couple of diorama's, one being a small scratch built 2 lane shed. Era will be 1957-58, though when I can afford it I'll have some ideas for the 60's The Hawkins and Reeve books sound like a good resource, I'll look them up, thank you

Hey Polly, you have another follower, this is a great read so far. Those detailed plans from railmotor are a real bonus. I've been using E.Lyons book as well but its always good to be able to cross reference against other sources. I've got a loco shed project waiting in the wings so will be taking notes Good luck with it

Just found this thread, here's one of mine from 2010, looking towards the carriage sheds at Preston Park.

There was a large military base a little further up the coast at Tonfannau, just past Tywyn, so you'd be seeing plenty of military traffic through Aberdovey. Plus there would be evacuees coming in from Liverpool and elsewhere. It does make a really interesting period to model - the country was under a blackout, there would be no street signs or station/road signs etc. A very detailed description of the Cambrian coast during WWII can be found in Gwyn Briwnant Jones' 'Talerddig in Great Western Days' - ISBN13 978-1859025635. Chapter 4 in there has a wealth of information!

Hey, I really like this Aberdyfi inspired version - and I prefer the name, but then I would as Aberdyfi (or Aberdovey in the English spelling) is one of my favourite places in Wales. The beach and dunes there are beautiful as are the small victorian shops and houses. It would make a great place to model. At the other end of the town there is Penhelig Halt which is text book example of a GWR era halt with its pagoda and short platform. On a stranger note, there is the local legend of a sunken village out to sea, where at low tide you might be able to hear the bells of the submerged church ringing. Might be something to model under all those layers of PVA water
