  1. Looking good Scott. Don’t forget that the club is on Tuesday this week due to the bank holiday
  2. There is one thing in common that all coach pictures posted by Tony show, we have truly never been better off for RTR coach offerings. The only wish I would have is that they expand each range beyond the first/third/brake rut that the mainstream manufacturers seem to be stuck in.
  3. Or maybe a new A1/A3 that doesn’t have a ski jump
  4. Hello Scott, We met the other day at the Braintree and Halstead Model Railway Club. If you come back I can bring you in my copy of volume one of the Tatlow books for you to have a look at and decide if you want to buy your own copy before splashing out the cash. cheers Paul
  5. you have done a very nice job there. Have you tackled the interior as well?
  6. Perhaps it would be better to say that the J50 was the first true scale 0-6-0T produced by Hornby in 60 years?
  7. No mockery from me, rather I was chuckling to myself over the irony that rails are selling the very product that they are going to be in direct competition with. I have the greatest of respect for Simon and what he has done for Hornby over the years.
  8. Having seen the banner incident preview for next weeks show I was surprised to receive an email for Rails today advertising that they now have the new tooling Hornby terrier in stock. Did have to have a chuckle at the irony.
  9. If I’m not mistaken I have seen a Hornby Mallard in a blue bo.
  10. The first Pullman coach looks like it’s wonky or is that just the camera? Other than that great photography as always.
  11. Any chance of some pics of how you mounted the J11 chassis please? I have a couple of these body kits to build in the future.
  12. On the latest incarnation of the aged model Hornby have added a lamp as well as a painted front.
  13. My problems with railmatch are that the Matt varnish never dries Matt and the satin varnish dries Matt and this is after shaking for nearly five minutes.
  14. My V1 turned up today, I’ve only had chance to have a quick look at it it I like what I’ve seen, congratulations all round to everyone involved.
  15. This is what I’ve spent the last couple of days building.... It’s actually been nice to model something other than railways for a change. It’s an 1:350 Aoshima kit, and I also have Thunderbird 2 in the to do pile, Thunderbird 3 is on it’s way too. To finish Thunderbird 1 I need to decal and give it some light weathering, and build the plastic launch bay diorama it comes with.
  16. Gentlemen, many thanks for all your replies it certainly has given me much to go on, the different ways of signalling are many no wonder I’m baffled!
  17. Thank you for your reply. It is a Thomas the Tank Engine based layout and is actually the terminus to Thomas’ branch line, I want to run it like a real railway and therefore it is set in the mid to late 1960s. The private line serves a quarry and is used by Toby (steam) and Mavis (diesel) exclusively. The first train of the day is the mail train brought in by Percy and while it is being unloaded in the goods shed Toby takes the quarry workmen to the quarry. There is a hourly passenger service alternating between Thomas (steam) and Daisy (diesel) the first one of the day being after Toby had taken the workmen, this is run by Daisy. Percy brings in two or three freight trains a day in between the passenger trains. The signalling style I’m after is LMS practice as is the rest of Sodor due to being connected to Barrow. I hope this makes sense and helps. Many thanks Paul
  18. I've never been any good with understanding semaphore signalling so am requesting help from people that know about it. I have drawn up my layout plan and would kindly ask for your help in what signals to use and where. My layout is called Ffarquhar and is set on the Island of Sodor, but I am looking to signal it correctly. if you require any additional information than please ask and I will, all being well, provide. Many thanks in advance. Paul
  19. Thanks for the replies guys it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who hasn’t received theirs yet.
  20. Quick question, how many people who read this thread are still waiting for their V1 Dynamometer Car?
  21. Don’t worry I haven’t even been charged yet for mine so you’ll still get it before me
  22. It’s reassuring to know that my ideas have been tried and tested and also inspiring to the same person. Now to get round to building those coaches, why did I choose late 1930s LNER, teak takes ages to paint
  23. Eventually my LNER gangway stock once built, will have Kaydee buckeye couplings (with the appropriate tenders matching) through the bufferbeam. In my plans the end of one or two coaches will be fitted with just a hook and dummy buckeye folded down so that my coaches could be pulled by any of my LNER passenger locomotives. As for freight stock they have the appropriate 3 link, instalink and screw link couplings, these I uncouple with a shunters pole and after a bit of practice aren’t as fiddlesome as first thought. Yet even though I’ve shown at the club that it’s easy and looks better I still get the comments that tension locks are better. Yet I’ve never had my coupled trains come apart in the middle unlike some of theirs!
  24. I keep up to date with shows that are the next big thing purely for the fact I don’t want it spoiled for me. A lot of people these days seem to forget that not everybody has seen it yet and talk loudly and openly about it or splash major story spoilers all over social media and the internet.. there really is no getting away from spoilers these days unfortunately.
