  1. I believe the books 'Great Western Steam in Cornwall' and 'More Great Western Steam in Cornwall' have pictures of 9717 shunting in Marazion Station though the dates are unreliable. I believe two photos have dates years apart but you can clearly see from the rolling stock in the background they were taken the same day. I think the latest suggested date was some time in the early 50s, I can't recall if it had a top feed or no but I'll have a look in my books when I get home. Doesn't help you with 1947 exactly, 9717 was in penzance from 49-54 but it's a little closer
  2. I believe only the Welsh Lined Green Manors come with headboards, the rest do not
  3. Now that is interesting, I've heard of locos being shed pets but not tenders before
  4. I did, the main plan as it stands at the moment is to actually do a little earlier but with the option to run the layout a little later if the mood arises. I'm still gathering information, it's likely to be years before I can actually build the layout as the current house is far to small. Interesting you say you see lining on the tender, I hadn't spotted it before but I'll be looking again shortly. I'm a sucker for something unusual and this is unusual enough and local enough to tickle my interest. Thanks Mike, it's interesting how a lot of transition liveries were quickly done away with but some locos in even older pre-nationalisation liveries persisted for quite some time. Unfortunately I missed the operation of steam in Cornwall by well over 3 decades so I appreciate everyone's help in building a better understanding Many thanks Rhys
  5. I won't post the image on the forum but I'd be happy to pm you the image after work if you'd like to take a look? Thanks Rhys
  6. Thanks That's a shame, they look quite well proportioned behind most of the 2 cylinder 4-6-0s
  7. Many thanks, I thought that would probably be the case but in a black and white photo it's hard to tell. I hope it wasn't green, I posed a Lined black loco with a green tender and it looked... strange. That's unfortunate, I'm currently looking for a Churchward tender to do 6809 but that will leave me with a small Collett Tender spare and having a lot of trouble finding a loco to pair it with. I can only find photos of them with Granges in the period buy even that seems unusual. Were they particularly rare tenders? What were they paired with? Apologies for asking every question under the sun, I've got so many but I'm trying to keep it reasonable haha I'll have a good look through those links Thanks Rhys
  8. Questions about Halls So another question for the good folk who know their GWR 4-6-0s In the book 'Great Western Steam In Cornwall' on page 34 there is a picture of 5972 Olton Hall sat at Truro Station taking on water. The picture is undated but is most likely in the very early 1950s. The loco is in BR Lined black livery, the lining is very easy to make out on the cabside, the tender on the other hand does not appear to be lined and you can clearly make out 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' in written format and in the old Great Western shaded typeface. What I'm wondering is, is it more likely the tender is black or green? I would assume black but I have never seen a black tender with the shaded the early written 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' in the Great western typeface. If anyone else can offer an educated guess or another photograph of the loco at the time that would be fantastic. I like modelling oddities and this is an era and location appropriate oddity. While I have your attention, were any halls running with the Collett long fender 3500g tender that could have conceivably be seen in west Cornwall into the 1950s? Many thanks Miss Prism for the tender information link Thanks all Rhys
  9. I shan't repeat the language I used when I read the announcement lest the good Mr York ban me for life but there were several outbursts of expletive joy! Now just decide which ones to get and how I can justify four of them to my wallet...
  10. These are an entirely fictions livery and so represent a what if scenario. As described above the bar was only a film set but in this fictitious scenario where they received maroon livery why not say it had the bar as well. They look rather fetching in BR Maroon as mine turned up this morning and I've not stopped admiring them since
  11. Received my email today for balance payment for my pair of tramcars. Apparently the BR Maroon ones have arrived and are nearly ready for dispatch Very much looking forward to these!
  12. 'They've made it!' The picture I've been planning for ages, I even bought a Star for this picture too. It had its first good run on a DCC layout today and was absolutely flawless. Sounds amazing and runs beautifully! Well done Rapido! My friends layout standing in for Mallingford (Temple Meads iirc) I played the 'Fortunate' file before hand of course
  13. I love my Titfield set, it's getting its first run on a big dcc layout tomorrow but it has been flawless on my dc test. It looks amazing, sounds amazing and I cannot wait to give the whole set a proper running! I did spot something a little curious though. I slipped a fingernail under the Coal load to see if it was removable and sure enough it popped right off. Perfect fit adding real coal and there is rivet detail under the coal (along with two very small locating holes for the plastic coal) What is curious is it seems the plastic coal is fitted before the tender interior is sprayed. It looks to be un painted plastic. This is a non-issue for me, a very simple fix and hidden by either the plastic coal or a simple coat of black paint and real coal. It does seem a curious thing to miss though, especially after going to the effort of adding the rivet detail This does not detract from the model at all, it's still brilliant and I cannot wait for the Titfield tramcar (and the other two I've also ordered) and the Pearce and Crump Bus
  14. Many thanks for the book suggestions. I have tracked down a copy of the Ian Sixsmith book and I'm sure it will be a very comprehensive resource! If I could ask another question, it lists tender numbers but not actually what they were (Collett/Churchward/3500g/4000g/etc) is there another resource that gives that I can use to translate the numbers into more information? Thanks again everybody!
  15. The tender currently behind the loco is a Collett 3500G tender rather than a Churchward one. I have a Llanvair Grange with a Churchward tender on the way to do Arlington as it was the Penzance book photo. Can you recommend any books with good Grange photographs? Unfortunately I got it wrong, the Lined black Grange allocated to Penzance was 6809 rather than 19. Hopefully 09 had a Collett 3500G like 19
