cracking that

Howes' sound in this one, sounds good but the driveability on Legomanbiffo's sound files is better.
-
to use a smaller chip you may have to remove one of the motors, even then....
-
A Careful, I was thinking the same thing..
I was thinking to get two and do 37688 Great Rocks... but the name / logo are opposite ends to 37425.
and depending on what era you were thinking of modelling 37688, 37425 may not have the correct nose ends - i.e. 37688 under BR ownership had headboard brackets.

Some nice work on customizing there.
60037 is a good choice !
I went for the Transrail era....

Heljan 7mm. Legomanbiffo sound with Drive Hold feature, on a ESU XL 4.0 chip

No,I'm keeping this one as a 37/0....possibly in red stripe.....or a LLB Inverness machine...
37146, 37153 may be your easiest options.
Other examples are 37128 and 37209 although I don't think either carried IS stags etc.
37128 was an RSH-built machine so had different cantrail grilles. 37209 also had lamp irons on noses.
Other LLB examples may be possible but these were perhaps ED machines IIRC (37175 etc.). 37183 was in LLB with the bufferbeam cowling.
The classic IS LLB engines 37260, 262, 263 did not have the same nose ends as the Heljan model, and also had the Halfords hi-intensity lights.
It's a minefield....

nice job on the buffer beam cowling. what kind of tool did you use ?
With regards to the greys, either way if you upgrade the model to 80s/90s you will have to respray completely...
IMHO the upper band is too dark ?

I have a habit of choosing difficult locos to model and then a RTR comes out later :-)

Like it ! Please can you provide the make of the case ?

7mm model has nose brackets, no aerials, no radiator grilles, boiler port, extra steps half way down the body side, buffer skirts, bogie cables
and no instructions saying "diesel only" on the fuel tanks :-)
the upper body side grey panels looks better though

Knocks my plans on the head then! Thanks for pointing it out. Back to drawing board. Headlight is a simple matter, grilles maybe not. Part of me wishes you hadn't told me and part of me is grateful....
Jeff
welcome ! it's a minefield i know
plasticard strips might do the trick ? plus a respraying of the skirts back to yellow

Large Logo Blue model not inaccurate....but you would have to leave one snowplough off if you want 100% fidelity to prototype!
Photograph taken inside Inverness depot on August 25th 1984.
Jeff
except that 37183 in the pic is an RSH-built machine and the model is a Vulcan-foundry built example.
Plus you need the headlight
But apart from that...not inaccurate

terrible music

Here's a side view.
And an Inside view. ZIMO sound decoder fitted with my own custom Class 08 sound. The Dapol sound-fitted are not available just yet.
Kind regards,
Paul
thanks for this Paul
Is it really just plug and play for the sound chip in this model ?

Read somewhere recently (possibly in the pdf linked to further back in the thread) that 08s were overhauled at approx 10 year intervals, with mileage factored in. And it's possible that, certainly in the late-60s, some works (Crewe in particular) would leave a still-decent paint job alone, especially for intermediate or unscheduled overhauls..
We know that 08105 lasted in it's original black livery until withdrawn and we've had links to photos of early green examples (with 'cycling ferret') receiving TOPS numbers in the 70s (so that's 20 years between paint jobs) and a large number of later green locos getting TOPS numbers circa 15-20 years after delivery, so the 10 year cycle might well be an under-estimate.
As with most things, but especially 08s with their myriad of detail differences, do an image search of your chosen machine. There is a very useful Green/TOPS group on Flickr with hundreds of good dated photos - plenty of 08s to choose from there!
08105 was very much in BR Blue at the time of withdrawal.

true for 'big' 7mm locos, not true for others, e.g. the Class 08. I asked Hattons about the decoder and they confirmed that this model takes 21-pin type that is used for 4mm.
170 quid to fit does seem a bit steep given the price of 4mm decoders but you are also paying for someone's time and VAT on top.
