Did you see any of the 'crabbing' issue mentioned above Ben, and are the tender wheels disc or spoked? I'm still in two minds regarding a BR green one.
Cheers from Oz,
Peter C.
No I didn't notice any obvious crabbing but only had 11 wagons behind it mix of Bachmann, brass kits and white metal kits but the tender did rock from side to side a little but has full tender of real coal witch has eased that. When I opened the box the middle wheels was loose but quickly pushed back in and they are solid discs. All in all I'm pleased with it and have the Bachmann version on order and tempted by "green arrow" too but can I justify 3 v2s.

Useful post thanks Ben. And the front pony wheels don’t foul the drain cocks on 4th radius curves either? No they don't foul the front pony wheels I've since tried on 3rd at slow speeds where there is no apparent touching either, that I can see

Morning all.
Received my rails edition of "Kings own Yorkshire light infantry" . Weekend spent adding all the extra details and etched name plates. I've darked the valve gear down with a humbrol black wash as a starting point. It says the cab doors are for display purposes but fitting them at a 45 degree angle (approx) the loco runs through 4th radius fine and hornbys standard express points. Just need some paint for the front cylinder blast pipes

@benbrownJust browsing online and found some images with the smokebox door cover removed (as the real W1 had on some runs, especially towards the end of its water tube life)
Is the smokebox door removable then?
Ive just had a gentle pull but didnt seem to budge darnt go any harder at the moment and risk breaking it or the hand rail below but instresting if it might.
Thanks Ben

Well a bit off good news after almost a week in the post with hermes to get to Nottingham mine has arrived all ok from what i can see. Possed with the rails dyno car, real coal added and detail pack items crew to add over the weekend. My only question is regards the smoke box door cover as it seems a bit proud hopefully the photo shows this darnt try pressing it to see if it slots in better

Mine has been dispatched with DPD. Any horror stories I should be worried about with them?
Not with my experiences with dpd normally 1 hour time slot tracking to see excatly where the van is and your drop number and the drop there at (x numbers away from you) and who the driver is too, dpd would be my preffered delivery.

I had a email from Hattons as well which they couldn't full fil my Midland Pullman HST order but I still have a order for the 88DS model I ordered from them
Had simler email both p2s ordered less than 8 hours after Hornby annouced them on the same day now canceled by retailer as they arnt able to fufil so order placed direct with Hornby how quick do you have to be makes me wonder no complaints against the retailer as they have been more than fair with me after talking to them about.

Personally, I think the lighter grey looks better (the lower image looks too dark to my eyes), but I agree that there is no definitive answer to the correct shade. If picking a colour, I'd probably aim for the colour of the valances on the 'silver' A4s, which I think were a dark grey and therefore may have been the same paint.
This is one of these models that does not match my post-privatisation modelling interests and I have absolutely no use for, yet it's a locomotive (in its original form) that I've been interested in ever since I first learned about its existence over 30 years ago. Every year in the annual wish-list poll it's the only steam locomotive that I've been vaguely tempted to vote for, but generally I don't. I won't be pre-ordering, but once I see it in my local model shop, I could be tempted - especially if the grey matches my expectations.
Just a quick comparison between Hornby A4 silver link and the grey used on mine unfortunatlly im not sure on the colour used but the loco was painted by john houlden (gamston bank) a few years back. But i shall wait on conformation from Hornby with the single chimmney for now
